Great shots, look slike a very pretty place. How did you get those waterfall shots? Was it on auto or did you manually go for a longer exposure and how did you do that?

18 Month Old Female Staffordshire Terrier Always Hungry
SoL replied to scolly's topic in General Dog Discussion
All of our Staffords would eat until they exploded - that includes the 9wk old pups too! -
OK, so he was bored and wanted to go down the park. So he got humoured ... so he was given an inch and took a mile and a half Then his shoe got stuck in the puddle! A good day's work done

Well it's full circle cos I bought my whole camera because of YOU Kirislin AND I'm now wanting to get a nifty fifty in time for bubba! YOUR FAULT young lady!
-
It's basically whatever works best for your dog. I don't personally like Supercoat because of the supercraps I used to have to pick up!!! I found they did well on Optimum and that would be teh only supermarket brand I would look at. I've just changed over to a raw diet but to be honest I don't know enough about it yet to recommend that a pup should be on it - easier to stick to a premium dry food whilst it's growing I think!

Cydie wash your mouth out - I'm a Ford girl Every single Holden we've had (including the one I named the Demon Car) has been a lemon. Having said that, I currently have a Patrol so have defected completely ;) I got a deal with Joyce Mayne - it pays to research and haggle - I got the twin lens kit complete with discounted 3yr warranty, polarising filter, 8MB memory card, the deal also came with a free tripod and I spotted a free bag attached to other Canons so got them to throw that in too All this came to around $900. Ravyk - I like your OH I couldn't afford to look at the other models and my OH, not knowing too much about dslrs, almost fainted when he saw the price of the 550~!!

Can I please ask what both flickr and redbubble are? They seem to be pretty popular - are they like Photobucket?
-
Ripley that would be AWESOME Many thanks - I'll PM my address to you. Isn't Gresford out Vacy way? I'm in Mulbring - that road is Richmond Vale Drive and is really beautiful, no matter what time of day, no matter what weather. It's just really relaxing to look at.

I got the Canon 1000D. I LOVE it I am a complete beginner in terms of both photography and dslr and am finding this to be a perfect camera for me - it's got all the auto settings for point and shoot but also you can take it out of auto and learn how to manage exposure, shutter speed, ISO settings etc. I'm really enjoying it My kit came with 2 lenses but am already looking at purchasing a 50mm down the track. It was between this and the Nikon 3000. It came down to 'feel'. The Nikon (though a good camera I'm sure) didn't feel as sturdy in my hand as the Canon did but, as I was told, this is like a Ford and Holden situation!

We usually get updates from our buyers around the pups' birthdays or at Christmas or when we have another litter. It makes contact few and far between but seeing the pups we have introduced into this world grow into happy, healthy and loved pets just makes my day :D
-
No, definitely not - though I know I could trust our eldest boys around them as they were raised around horses and the like but the young-uns wouldn't know how to act around them! Apparently he's spent an awful lot of money on a very expensive breed of cattle so they would be like gold to him. Anyhoo, dreaming on! Here's two shots of the same place at sunset today (I took advice, learnt how to bracket exposure on my camera (very nifty!) and also shot in RAW). See what you think: Definitely produces a more mellow feel to the picture :D
-
I'd love to but he's a city slicker and we only ever see his manager working the cattle. It'd be worth a try though wouldn't it? I would have loved to take the dogs there too. Sammy, kettle's always on if you're round this way

 thanks guys. LindaK will definitely go at different times of the day - Monet was my favourite impressionist and that is exactly what he used to do with oils. I was also pleased with the reference to Streeton because he is regarded as an Australian impressionist painter and impressionism is one of my favourite genres of art. Will take the tripod next time and use the time delay but I think I will have to re-read the manual a few times to get to grips with raw and f stops etc. I did actually move around quite a bit - unfortunately this is private land I wanted to buy it but I was a few $mil short so I now have to resort to peering through the barbed wire fence and over the gates. Really pleased with the suggestions so far, thanks guys Keep em coming

Huh? OK, talk to me in English at 3yo level I'm a beginner at dslr photography ... So ... (1) shoot for square format. What is this, how do I do it and yes, I do have a tripod but no I didn't use it for these shots. I actually would like to print this out in a larger format to hang, how do I translate it onto canvas? (2) Shoot in Raw. What is this and how do I do it? Why would it be different? (3) What do you mean by 'bracket'? I have a Canon 1000D, go easy on me (loving the tips though )
-
How did you do that? I see you've gotten rid of the pylons (thanks for that!) and the stump. Is picasa free? I'll check it out now. I've been using Photoscape lately but even that can't get rid of scenery (or I haven't figured it out yet).

How Does One Become A Registered Breeder?
SoL replied to jackie_a1's topic in General Dog Discussion
If you don't show your dogs against the dogs of your peers how the hell can you possibly be breeding "for the good of teh breed"? It is only by showing and seeing others being shown that you get an idea of how the breed is faring today, where it is going and how you can possibly contribute to ensure there is still a breed for the future that is as true to type as possible. -
OK so I decided ages ago that I wouldn't take piccies of this particular scene until I had a decent camera so today I was a bit snap happy. It's just round teh corner from us and is boringly called John Brown Lagoon. I never get tired of driving past it though and I hope these piccies do it justice. Wouid love some critique on composition and obviously any hints on how to make it better would be greatly appreciated. Ta muchly

gimme a chance lady - just got them onto Photobucket Seeing that you've got me, I shall do you the honour of posting here BEFORE the Stafford thread Ray doing his Jabba the Hut impression Henry Minnie the Minx Ellie Arthur Shazza and Ellie having cuddles Dennis Eddy and Iggy

errr besides price tag, you're asking the wrong person LOL Though it's probably something like ISO and shutter speed or image stabilising, something like that. I've just had a big puppy photo session LOVING this camera so far

Thanks for your advice guys On commencement of Emfest, OH took me a shopping yesterday and I came back with my new camera I got a new Canon EOS1000 (liked the feel of it better than the Nikon), with twin lens, free tripod, free bag and 8GB card and 3yr warranty I think at one point I made the salesman at Hardly Normal cry. Let's just say it pays to do research - their advertised price online was about $300 cheaper than their store price. OK, ok, I know it's a basic entry level, but then so am I and it's already proven to be soooooo much better quality than my point and shoot and trust me, after flicking through the manual last night, learning to use it properly will probably be a lifetime dedication Can't wait to get started! Speaking of which - what would be the best setting to start shooting the pups outside? Naturally things are on auto at the moment, I was thinking more of a sports mode for action shots, but how would I convert that to a manual setting? I have soooo much to learn!
-
Hell of a lot of fillers listed in there, quite high up too. Plus, if they're saying it's 'a succulent combination of chicken ...', why have they also listed beef meal? I dunno, haven't tried it and probably wouldn't.

I have used Tuffrock Poultice to good effect on my boy Bruce, who knackered his shoulder. It took two days of poulticing overnight to stop him limping altogether (second time round - first time with no poultice it took 4 weeks but it was obviously also a worse injury). You would get it at ag supplies or equine product suppliers - heaps of horsey people use it
-
I'm in love with teh Bernie Great photos though .... ,.... if ever you feel like a holiday in the Hunter Valley let me know (plus you could teach me quite a few things about photography!)
-
No, haven't diluted it, though the runs were sprayed down when they were wet so that would have diluted it - I can still smell the product today (d'ya reckon if I put some in the pups' drinking water it will make their poos smell prettier???)
