I don't think of protection when I want a certain breed like a GSD or Rottie as these breeds have a natural instinct to protect the family they love and they do it very well. When my GSD girl was 12 wks old she heard a noise and gave out a growl and a bark, it was so funny as she was so small. She turned out to be very protective of her family. My GSD boy who is a big sook was sitting near the front security door (lucky it was locked) a few years ago when a delivery guy jumped over the front fence, well my boy nearly ripped the door off trying to get him. So I have no doubt mine would protect us. Thats about all I can say because when you have a GSD or Rottie people are less likely to enter your property except stupid sales people who soon get the message. :D

None of mine went anywhere until last C5 at 16 wks. As parvo is not worth the risk, especially for Rotties.

There are many uncaring heartless people in this world unfortunately.

Very sad story, maybe something very wrong with the DNA of these poor dogs. ;) An article I read some time ago said why does a dog raised with love and kindness suddenly turn on it's owner, yet a dog that has been cruelly treated and abused for a long time doesn't. DNA was given as a possible cause as it's not breed related, which makes sence to me. My Rottie is a perfect example of this, she is an ex-cruelty case and was very badly treated (bashed, starved, chained) and was very scared of me. At no time did she try to bite or attack me, she's the most loving and gentle girl you could ever want and over the last 5 years has been a joy to own. Owners are the problem most of the time, but sometimes it might be the dog who knows.

Mine are fed 3 small meals per day because of bloat, they are not allowed out half an hour before and after they eat. My lot know exactly when it's time to be fed and they let me know too. I always laugh when I hear people and vets say "In the wild dogs do this and that." ;)

Welcome to DOL, Don't know this breeder but what I did was ring the GSDL here in NSW and go to shows and speak to breeders and see their dogs also ask many questions. You may like certain colours eg black and gold but when you see a sable as I did I changed my mind. The most important thing with GSD's is health and temperament, so please buy from breed surveyed parents. As breeders are different so are GSD's, do you want a calm or hyper GSD. I have one of each and believe me calm is better. Anyway hope this is of help, good luck.

If the RSPCA were serious about stopping puppy mills, they could have done so but this isn't what they want. The RSPCA want to control everything and everyone, they think they're the police. :D :D Instead of sitting around talking the RSPCA should be out preventing cruelty to animals, and not standing over people who do the right thing. :D I'm sure they come out with stupid comments and statements from time to time just for the publicity, like people will be jailed if they don't walk their dog or BSL is a great idea as it will stop dog attacts. :D Maybe the RSPCA should have SS stamped on their uniforms and do the goose step when they arrest and take you away for not making a donation.

I would not go to an obedience training club that banned the use of check chains, as these clubs clearly haven't got a clue. The check chain when used correctly is the most effective way to control a large dog, it's only a choke chain when some fool has is around the wrong way. You must also use the correct size too. Imagine your at training and some inexperienced person is walking towards you with a large dog in a collar or harness and this dog is DA, when suddenly this dog lunges at you and the collar or harness breaks :D this has happened at all breeds but not to me. The RSPCA does not approve of check chains and many other things but who cares what they think as they don't know one end of a dog from the other.

I wonder if the RSPCA thinks milking Funnel web spiders is cruel. Anyway the RSPCA is very good at milking themselves, as we all know.

Terrier Terror: List Reveals Jack Russell Attacks
tarope replied to myValkyrie's topic in In The News
Topping the list of 20 breeds that bite was the Staffordshire bull terrier, followed by the Australian cattle dog and the German shepherd. So only 20 breeds that bite, that's handy to know stupid ABC and pollies. The Minister for Local Government Barbara Perry says it is unusual to see the Jack Russell come in at number seven. "It is surprising that we see little dogs like the Jack Russell," she said. "I do remember in the last quarter we saw the Maltese making it to the top 20 dogs on the dog attack register. I doubt Barbara Perry knows what a Jack Russell or Maltese even looks like. I wonder if Babs gives a prize for coming first on the list. -
Kids left alone with a dog they've had for only one hour ;) another case of stupid parents. ;) Four year old fights off adult dog, yeah right reminds me of another "story" of an old lady who the newspaper claims fought off a Rottie with a broom stick. :D what a load of crap. These parents have the hide to tell others not to adopt adult dogs, what a bloody joke. These people should not be allowed to own a dog. one would think this so called vicious savage dog attacking a small defenseless child would leave many bite wounds and not just a small one on the nose, poor child and poor dog.

Caring vets who are not scared of GSD's and Rotties. ;) Off street parking and a large waiting room, they even have a cat walking around for a quick snack mine love cats, very tasty. ;)

Blacktown pound is a hell hole, and the staff are just as bad. The tender system is a bloody rip off and is just another way to make money for this greedy council. Blacktown council is paid to take dogs from other councils, yet complain about it. Dogs are killed every day, even young healthy dogs. When a dog is surrendered it goes in a cage and is left there till it's PTS, which isn't very long. They don't even take the check chains or collars off the dogs in the cages. ;) The dogs are covered in fleas and kennel cough and parvo run wild. Some of the fleas would most likely drowned when staff hose the cages out with the poor dogs in them. Dogs that are sold are not desexed as this is now your problem, if the dog has parvo or kennel cough that's also your problem. ;) If your a volunteer and have the hide to complain about how staff or the previous owners have treated these poor dogs your told to keep your mouth shut. Blacktown council doesn't like to spend money and it shows at the pound. Cr Russ Dickens who is also a vet is the only councilor who is trying to change things, but he's up against a brick wall and has even been called crazy by some in council. Cr Dickens is a very caring person and genuine in his attempts to change things, he's totally opposed to BSL and once owned and loves Rottweilers.

Why can't people learn that stats are a load of crap and prove nothing. Just because as you say 137 people were bitten by GSD's means nothing, when in 2006 there were 35,700 pure bred registered GSD's. That's less than 1%. In the same year there were 24,000 pure bred registered Rotties again less than 1%. We all know that BSL is wrong and no breed should be banned just because the Media and RSPCA don't like them, and no one should judge a breed by the number of people bitten by them. It's the owner not the breed thats the problem, ban the deed not the breed. Breed identification is the biggest problem, if it's big and black, it's a Rottie. The general public can't tell one breed from another, yet these same people read some Media report and all call for the breed to be banned what a bloody joke. ;)

Poor pup :D Hang the bastard who did this. :D ;)
-
It wasn't that long ago Hugh Worthless was foaming at the mouth and saying the same about Rotties.
-
"In general Rottweilers tend to be quite dangerous dogs." :D Tell me MR. King what knowledge do you possess of this breed, it seems only what you've read in newspapers me thinks. It's morons like you that give this wonderful breed a bad name. Are you and your Dickhead council so scared of Rotties you murder 6 wk old pups. ;) May you rot in hell.
-
Ripley, I'm sorry for what happened to you, tell this moron his dog must be on a lead in public that's the law. :D People like this give the breed a bad name. As for obedience training, how many times did he go ? I bet not it wasn't long. ;) There's only one thing wrong with GSD's, they attract Idiots like him and the breed suffers.
-
This is in memory of a young gentle Rottie boy who was PTS at Blacktown pound because no one wanted him. :nahnah: I am so sorry for you,I only knew you a short time I wish I could have taken you. RIP you and all the other dogs that are PTS in that place every day. Run free.

I'm scared of Rotties, I'm scared of Rotties falling into the hands of Irresponsible owners who know nothing about them and keep them on a chain and dump them at the pound when they can't handle them. ;) If this dog bites someone, the whole breed gets the blame. I feel very sorry for you, to judge a breed on the actions of three individuals. this is the reason I've avoided adding to this thread until now. I imagine that if I got bitten three times by a certain breed I'd be wary too - Krislin didn't say that she hated them, supported BSL etc etc, she just said she was *wary*. I don't walk very closely to larger dogs that I don't know. I don't hate them either, but I don't know the owner so would like a bit of distance in case they lunge. I'd do the same for little dogs but they can't inflict the same injury on me. Megan, Where in my post did I say Kirislin was bitten by a Rottie, I was giving an example how people who have never owned or who know nothing about this breed are scared and wary of them. It's Irresponsible owners that are the problem, and this can be said of all breeds not just Rotties. Some people will always be scared or wary of certain breeds and I couldn't care less. p.s. Isn't this thread about GSD's, another wonderful breed. :D

Many people in this country are scared of large dogs too. Not only Chinese people. :D Those of us who own GSD's and Rotties know only to well what it's like to take your gentle, loving dog anywhere and have some people nearly wet themselves with fear. All because of what's in some bloody newspaper.

CavNRott, I am so sorry for your loss, ;) I only just found out when reading about Sinna passing. Im glad Sophie didn't suffer, RIP Sophie. Opal and I sent you our Deepest Condolences.

I am so sorry for your loss I had the chance to meet beautiful Sinna at this years Rottie fun day, what a loving and gentle girl. RIP Sinna.

Just read Barbara Perry's statement on the NSW Government web page and I can't see where she says Rotties and Staffies are dangerous. As always it's the bloody Media who claim this. One attack by either breed is one too many, but when you see how many registered pure breed Rotties and Staffies there are here in NSW you realize it's just the bloody Media wanting higher paper sales at the expense of our breeds. :D It's a shame Pollies don't look at their own web page for information instead of quoting from newspapers about attacts by certain breeds. When I look I see, pure breed Rottweilers 28,198. Staffies 61,501. A total of 89,699 for both breeds. So how can the Bloody Media claim that because of 69 attacts by these and crosses of these breeds in one single year be the most Dangerous breeds, what a load crap, and I don't buy newspapers for reasons like this and you shouldn't either then they might get the message.
