How right you are, especially where GSD's and Rotties are concerned. Hugh Wirthless is a typical example of why some people are scared of certain breeds, but in his case he's spreading both fear and hatred. I do feel sorry for people who are fearful of GSD's and Rotties, because they will never know the joy of owning one or two of these wonderful breeds. Poodlemum, People who allow their GSD's to attack other dogs should not be allowed to own GSD's or any other breed.

I must confess that I don't really like GSDs - perhaps its only the ones I have known - they seem to be cowardly on their own, but will attack another dogs if there are 2 or 3 GSDs together. This is just from my observation of a group of GSDs (owned by different people) who used to be walked in a park where we used to walk our dogs, and I am not saying they areLL like that. ;)

Some people writing to the Blacktown Advocate are now blaming the volunteers saying things like "volunteers want to run their own agendas." "Volunteers have no idea what their talking about, get rid of the volunteers.""Passing judgement when they have no certificates or degrees." Sounds like council stooges trying to run a smear compain against the volunteers, if it wasn't for the volunteers the poor dogs would sit in those cages 24/7. If it wasn't for the volunteers no one would know what really goes on in that place, and you don't need a bloody certificate or degree for that. :D You don't need a degree to show compassion and want to help, yet when you speak out your told to keep your mouth shut. When volunteers have to go to the Media,and shame the council you know something is very very wrong.

Hi Gilypoo, Does your GSD have a problem or will this turn into a sinister obsession now or later in life ? The answer is no, you have a normal hyperactive GSD. Will she calm down or grow out of this, no what you see is what you get. By 18 mths she will mature and you will notice an improvement in behavior but she will always be hyper. A hyperactive GSD is not for everyone, as they need more training and much patience more so than a hypoactive GSD. It's a real shock to the system to get a hyper GSD,I know because I have one. My girl was a monster and nearly drove me crazy,just to give her a brush was impossible as she wouldn't stay still and was like a jack in the box. She started obedience training with the GSDL at 4mths and was the worst one there. Today my girl is loving,loyal and very protective but still hyperactive and she's 7yrs old and runs around with her ball. I should mention that my GSD boy is hypoactive and has never chased a ball or played tug o war,is quite happy just to sit on the lounge what a joy. Take her to obedience training which she will love and get her used to other dogs and don't worry because you have one of the best breeds there is, she'll be just fine.

I've always played tug o war with mine, its a great game and they love it except my GSD boy as he has never liked it because he's a big sook. ;)

You need to get your facts straight tarope. I have worked with RSPCA on two puppy farm seizures and rehomed all the schnauzers for them. You could not work with more compassionate and caring people. Yeah right, if they were so bloody caring there wouldn't be any puppy mills in the first place. Puppy mills have been around for a long time, what has the RSPCA done - nothing.

I don't see the funny side of someone being mauled by a large dog as you do Jones. I don't think it's funny when a family through ignorance buys a protection/attack trained dog and it turns on them. ;) I don't think it's funny when the Dobermann, Rottweiler and GSD breeds are blamed because some moron teaches some to attack and they do just that to their new owners. :p

So it actually wasnt a FAMILY dog, right? It was a newely rehomed dog with some family that was not aware of triggers for the dog..... Media said " family Dobermann" the dog was purchased from who knows where as protection/attack trained and was not a rescue. It was about 8yrs ago and was here in Sydney. Having owned a dobe for 10yrs myself I know Dobes don't turn on their family but the breed gets the blame. :D

Several years ago on TV's 6 o clock news the headline was " woman attacked by the family Dobermann". The woman needed 30 stitches in her leg and the husband dislocated his elbow trying to pull the dog off her. They'd only had this adult dog 3 months and had been protection/attack trained and what ever the woman did set the dog off. Imagine if it was a child could have resulted in death. Another person bought a protection/attack trained Rottweiler and was bitten by this dog, this person came to the Rottie Club for help. I was told it took a very long time to DE program this poor dog. The person was told if you want a dog that will protect you,buy your pup from the club and raise him/her with love and kindness etc. The person did just that and came back to say the pup he got from the club was more protective as an adult than the other one because this dog protected out of love which IMO is the best kind.

RSPCA inspector says dogs are not socialized it's a bloody puppy mill. RSPCA allows lowlife woman to keep 24 dogs, WTF does the stupid RSPCA think this lowlife is going to look after these poor dogs. If the RSPCA were serious they would take all the dogs and close every puppy mill. I wonder how many of these poor dogs will pass the RSPCA temp test. Your a bloody joke RSPCA. ;)

Who was behind this stupid idea the bloody RSPCA, I wouldn't be at all surprised. ;)

Great news I hope the former owner one day will get the same treatment he inflicted on this poor dog.
