See I was right, the R$PCA are all about money, since when does the R$PCA take notice of what people think or say. The only signatures the R$PCA want are on cheques nothing else.

Dr Chris Brown Publicised Buying A Pup From Petshop
tarope replied to tivins's topic in General Dog Discussion
Some vets are caring, some vets love animals and would never promote pet shops and BYB's but unfortunately Doc Hollywood Brown is not one of them. One wonders what the real motive is behind Hollywood Brown's support of a pet shop, most likely money and of course the people who buy pups from this pet shop chain because where do they go when pups get sick and they will you guessed it Doc Hollywood. Does CH 10 really give a stuff what people think, me thinks not. -
My GSD girl would shake with fear when I took her to the vet, my Rottie girl would snap and growl at the same vets in this practice. :D So I changed vets a few years ago and problems solved because my dogs like these vets, as some vets don't like Rotties and GSD's and the dogs know it. Our dogs are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

What a crazy world we live in. :D

Hi Nixon, I'm sorry for your loss please learn from this never go near BYBs, Pet shops or Puppy Mills as you are not the first person in this situation and won't be the last. If you want this type of dog, I'm sure pounds and shelters would have some and would be much cheaper too.

Is this not their job, why does the R$PCA need signatures - sounds like another money making scheme.

What do you expect from Doc Hollywood Brown. -
With two GSD's and a Rottie, I don't want to know.

Welcome to DOL Hayley, I have owned several large breeds over the years, but the GSD and the Rottie are the breeds I love. What made you choose your favourite breeds ? Love, loyalty, very Intelligent are big sooks and great family pets. What do you love about them? All of the above and the fact they love to be with you and you can trust your life with them. Do you currently own this breed or want to? Yes I have two GSD's and one Rottie. I do feel sorry for people who have never owned a GSD or Rottie, as they will never know the joy that these wonderful breeds can bring.

Hi Nadine83, I have never owned a GR but I can tell you a little about the wonderful GSD. There are two types of GSD's the calm ones and the hyperactive ones, I know as I have one of each and can be either dog or bitch so a calm one would be for you especially with a young family. The hyperactive ones and much harder to train and can be a real handful, but in time turn out just fine. Obedience training is a must and the best place for this is the GSDL, they will show you how to raise your GSD correctly. GSD's are not for everyone because many people won't do the training and it's not easy and don't make this wonderful breed part of the family, by this I mean in the house on the lounge etc. They love to be with you and are loyal, loving, very Intelligent and protective. Health and temperament are most important, so I hope your chosen breeder is a GSDL member. Fear bitting and HD were a big problem years ago, but thanks to breed survey this is not the case today. Archie the vet nurse, Would you explain to me what you mean by "Narky GSD's"

I wouldn't say those are all myths... 1: They can be, in the wrong hands. Because the breed is a large breed, this can make them dangerous. That is, they aren't inherently dangerous, but the potential is there. 2: A working Rottweiler is a good guard dog. 3: They can be very dominant and hard to handle, not in general, but I've met a few. All are myths as a dog of any breed can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Large doesn't make them dangerous either, unless they stand on your toes. As for dominant and hard to handle, this is the biggest myth of all if you train your Rottie pup from a young age with the help of obedience instructors in the Rottweiler club you will never have a problem. I have never seen a Rottie that obedience instructors in the Rottweiler club of NSW could not handle, all are like putty in their hands.

Lovemesideways It's worse if they do own the breed. I met someone with this GSD, sweetest little girl. Next time I see them shes on a check chain!!! A 6 month old, very submissive and gentle girl on a check chain? They said it was cause the "breeder" (BYB I'm sure) had told them they need to keep her "in line". Because GSD's have been known to turn on their owners due to a chemical imbalance in their brain, and if they'r afraid of you they won't attack you, just other people...

How are they supposed to be protective if they have no aggression I wonder ? German Shepherds are not Golden Retrievers, but it does not mean with the right handling they cannot also be loyal, loving and intelligent dogs with their families. Protective is a much better word than aggressive don't you think ? I don't think a lack of understanding of inherited breed characteristics is the problem here, as I own two GSD's. The problem is how the general public see the breed and how the breed is presented. I'm not talking about this add, I'm talking about the breed as a whole. No one wants their breed labeled dangerous, aggressive or vicious as happened to the Pitbull. If a young family wanted a GSD and saw an add saying loyal, loving and protective family pet (which they are) they would make inquiries to the GSD club in their state but not if the add said otherwise. I was sitting at the vets today with my Rottie who is gentle as a lamb, no one sat next to us and anyone who came in walked right around us because people are scared of what they read which is such a shame.
-
My GSD boy was desexed at 11 mths, he didn't lift his leg before and he didn't after he just leans forward. :D It never worried me till I saw our Rottie bitch lift her leg on the odd occasion.
-
Don't have time for dog, then why get another one.
-
Totally agree Anyone who loves their breed would never claim them to be dominant or aggressive, especially today with BSL. GSD's are not aggressive or dominant but wonderful family pets loyal, loving, very Intelligent and protective.
-
These morons are the reason we have BSL.
-
Our GSD girl was a monster and bit the hell out of us, I was covered in bites and hurt like hell. But they do grow out of it in time, when is a good question. My girl did and she turned out just fine, she's 7.5 yrs old now. Try rubbing aftershave on your arms and hands, spray underarm deodorant on your jean legs. When they bite and taste it, that's enough to stop them bitting for a while. Don't worry you have a normal pup, just think of it as love bites. :D

Here's a few. Rotties are a dangerous breed. Rotties will suddenly snap and turn on you. Rotties are stupid. Rotties can't be trusted with kids. Rotties are guard dogs Rotties are a very dominant breed and hard to handle (this from a vet). Rotties are evil devil dogs. GSD's will turn on you. Can't trust them. Are guard dogs, etc etc etc. An Instructor at all breeds once said, If you let your dog on the lounge or bed one day they will attack you. Raw meat makes them vicious. The sad thing is some people believe this crap, and when you ask them have you ever owned a Rottie or GSD the answer is always no. ;)

If Someone I Consider Reasonable Thinks This..
tarope replied to mr.mister's topic in General Dog Discussion
You certainly talk a lot of crap, you sound like the R$PCA who also knows nothing about dog breeds or temperaments. You go on and on about stats, which anyone with a small amount of common sense knows they mean nothing. If 10 people like peanut butter and 5 people like vegemite what does this prove -- Nothing. Just like dog bite stats. -
What a pack of bastards how could any vet do that,it's just unbelievable. Sounds like a good story for the local newspaper or ACA, everyone should hear about this caring vet.
-
What does Tim Bailey and the R$PCA have in common ? They both know nothing about dogs.
-
Hang the Bastard Poor Rottie RIP I also feel sorry for his other dogs, who are now in the hands of the R$PCA.
