  1. Hi Dd Yup that would do it im very careful who i do stays with because other people can have a huge effect on your dog and using the wrong command well been there before. AS for the guy waving his arms i was thnking what is he doing i wasnt surprised when your dog left i would have too with him doing that it just ppushed him to the limit If you are at club and need help with ring work im happy to help i have a sheltie pup blue merle so just caome and say hi yb
  2. Hi Inspecor have to disagree dog should be able to be left at either end If the dog is confused then that is a training issue you need to be able to take things like sun in eyes and wind so that you can leave your dog in the best possible position. Mine will be left at either end of the ring and will retrive from either side of the jump so if conditions dont suit one way i can go the other yb
  3. Dogdayz do you go to westernport coz i saw the exact same thing happen Sunday if that was you your dog seemed very insecure when you left her/him and was sending out some pretty heavy stress signals i said to my hubby that dog will either not come or leave his friend wants to know if i can predict tatts now lol Dont worry you will get there didnt see you work but im sure once you get her confidence up she will be fine yb
  4. I dont instruct at clibs for that reason Amphailite i always feel like im not being honest with people because i dont train that way myself. Nat which club did you end up finding was the better one im still scratching my head and wondering what to do. I just want soemwhere where i can use trial equipment get a rinthrough etc and thast hard to find yb
  5. i have ablckdog one i dont use it but they do fit the sandwich bags you buy in the supermarket really well so you can just get treats straight from the fridge and no mouldy bits in the corners a week later yb
  6. I started using two toys and food years ago when i was training a very hypo unattentive gsp it really kept her focussed and keen to work as she loved having the oppurtunity to run and chase its quite simple throw a piece of food then as sson as the dog gets it say their name and toss a piece in the oppoisite direction the idea us to get a rhythm of the dog spinning back to go after the next bit of food or of course a toy then now and again you call the dog to you be sure to use food the dog can see or they waste time sniffing it out and start with just a couple of goes and build from there thats the simple explanation of it dont throw to far to start its also a great game with puppies in the lounge and it teaches a really good spin back for the retrieve yb
  7. Good point Erny Do you uswe your ring body language for all recalls or only the ones where the dog is sitting and waiting. One way to get fast recalls is to start with a game of toy foods or toytoys and then call of one piece of food the two food gets them moving when the dog comes throw food between your legs for all fronts leave worry about things like crooked sits alone. using two food gets the dog in a rhythm and works very well also do longer sit and leave the dog sometimes twent sometimes thity fifty or ten paces and of course the old run away works well yb
  8. Hi David thanks for the call do you have Pauls contact details by chance also do you know if the warragul group is suitable for beginners yb
  9. i think if you can afford it go with something like NDtf its more comprehensive than the thompson one but it depends on you finances and background it is pretty basic a friend did it but if you are new to training it would be a good one if the discount is very big yb

  13. that is great news and big treats to you for trying another approach dogs are really forgiving of our mistakes arent they.. By focuusing on the things he does right you will go a long way to building a strong relationship keep up the good work Have you tried playing round robing recalls with the family each taking turns to call him and treat him with food and cuddles then having the next person call also playing hide and seek with his favorite toy keep it somple first and get someone to hold him then later when he stays well its a great little game and good for the kids to play yb
  14. have been shown how to get his attention and keep it i would and this is of the cuff without seeing the dog set up a situation where you can work on keeping his attention whilet the other sddog is a long way away maybe well to the side of the trianing field i cant see how you cann progress in a class as if he is lunging you will be too busy worrying about him and not able to concentrate on the lesson if it were my dog id be working in his comfort zone the distance that he is ahappy to be and build his level of obedience then slowly close the distance till he is able to focus in class i would be using a lot of reward for attention Be careful if you are using correction if he is feeling defensive or worried and is easily stressed this will just add fuel to the fire making other dogs a popel something stressful rather than pleasant You say you other dog drags you to people to say hello that shouldnt bethe case she should be able to walk past other dogs without showing interest in them have you been taught how to keep you dogs attention on walks i let mine walk to the end of the lead no pulling but they can sniff but when i say close i expect them to come cose to me until released yb yb

  16. How long have you been training Tank and Mallee If you go to www.k9events.com there is a list of trainers and i think there are some up your way You should be able to get one on one where you are and you have already paid to go there so start with them and see what they suggest yb
  17. You can have studied a subject without having recieved a qualification not everyone has the money or time to spend on courses to give them a piece of paper for something yb
  18. Where in Melbourne are you and just a point not all trainers without a qual arent able to help many poeple involved in dog cubs have years of experience working with this kind of dog It isnt always necessary to fork over money to get good help so long as your committed What shelter is the dog from most dont rehome fence jumpers anyway but to let a dog aggressive dog get through you do need someone to assess the dog and decide what is triggering the behaviour i'd suggest checking out anyone you consider working with see if your comfortable with their training style ask to watch them work with someone and to negin with probably better to go one on one yb
