  5. ahh so these bungy things do exist i thought so l. yb
  6. good idea amphlaite the harness would be better i think. im sure i saw somewhere that you could get longlines with bungy cord in them wonder if they are any good i didnt take much notice at the time but this does raise a point yb
  7. wow you were lucky i have two concerns the first lesson you learnt cheap equipment is cheap for a reason lol two what if the collar hadnt broken that would have been some impact on the dogs neck and may have caused an injury. I dont use long lines in that manner but is there one that has some sort of give in it I know poeople are goign to say yeah but the dog corrects itself but if you call too late and the dog whacks the end and hurts its neck it may associate you calling with the whack . With the ecollar the dog doesnt know where the stim came from. and if the long line had give you would still have the self correction if you wanted but without the heavy impact. Ive seen a lot of dogs fly through the air when doing long line recalls because the owner hasnt the timing its a bit of a worry yb
  8. Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.
  9. ah a little learning can be a dangerous thing but a lot of ignorance is just as bad bob edwards
  10. ok heres a thought use a target to get position without a reward in sight then randomise your reward as erny said if you are at the trial level then food and toys should be away not seen anyway so that should be easy then he doesnt know which reward he will get when i was training my over the top nut dog i had food and toys hidden in all sorts of places and then when i asked for something a reward appeared if you have to show the dog a toy or food before you ask for the behaviour then the food or toy is the motivation to do the exercise not the reward does that make sense assuming this is not a beginning dog
  11. I use a hand target the other way is where they move around in a semi circle i have a vid of it somwhere will find it later and send it to you if you like yb
  12. change to a flip finish reckon you'd get a good one use a high hand target so the dog leaps up and then into heel looks very flashy when done well yb
  13. lol we had a similar thing here daughter decides to teach puppy to rollover for trick competition didnt tell me nesxt day i ask for drop and i get these wonderful rollovers instead turns out she was asking for drop then luring the rollover been a clever little thing he got the idea very quickly he thought he was soooo clever when i asked for drop ohh i know this one So daughter is now only allowed to teach tricks are telling me whats shes doind and how she planns to do it yb
  14. you herr rottweiler but i just answered my own question in intros yb
  15. i agree nat i cant stop you using a certain methood on your dog but lately im certainly seeing an interesting picture of so called modern training practises lol yb
  16. if your dog chews your shoes then hit yourself on the head for leavuing them out.. and not keeping an eye on the puppy puppy is probably teething and will chew anything left lying around be sure she has things she can chew and then swap for the thing you dont want her to chew in the past three years ive had three puppies through here and not one has had much problem about chewing things why because i keep things up and if they do go to chew on a table etc i pick up a suitable toy walk over and give it to them think of her poor mouth it hurts and chewing is a way of relieving it its not her fault your shoes are just so darn tasty yb
  17. lol yes i think he may get himself a reputation he loves playing that game at home with me i try to grab him and he darts around my hands i guess he figures no different with paws lol yb
  18. A lot of the issues that show up in the ring go back to poor foundation work your dog is going along so nicely that you move forward to quickly before cementing one level and then though it doesnt show up for ages eventually the exercise shows a flaw. The handler thinks but he knows this and resorts to correction whereas in fact the dog only knew part of it and when under presssure the flaw showed up Going on what lablover is saying when you have taught something to your dog and he is doing it well at home then take him out and build him to doind it in all sortd of enviroments before moving onto the next level . its much easier to get a sit stay of thrity seconds at home then go out and start at say ten seconds and rebuild it till its back to thirty in heaps of varying levels of distraction than waiting till the dog is doing a full three minute out of sight stay. The handler also doesnt feel they have to go back so far in their training for each new environment Taking time to build really solid foundations can realy pay of in the long runworking on each part of each exercise under varying levels of distraction will ensure that your dog does really know it.. A couple of experiments i like to try on poeple is leave your dog for a recall and walk away but dont about turn call him with your back to him same hand signal what happens does he find front or did you get a nose up the butt Leave a dog as though you are going to do a recall and set his dumbell down halfway between you and ask hi to fetch does he fetch or do something else Leave your dog on a wait and take a couple of steps forward then tur right and take a step now ask your dog to heel without a hand signal can he find heel yb
  19. Hi Lablover Yup i use the rule of seven yb
  20. Yes he looked like he wanted to come over another add to his stress so between all that happened is it really surpeising he decided to bail out lol Dogs you gotta love em just when you think you have covered everything they come up with something new One of the hardest things for dogs that do a lot of classes is being able to work alone in the busy enviroment of a class they tune out the other dogs but when they go into the ring and its only them and things are happening further away they often find it really hard to concentrate so if you are serious about trialling i'd be going all my training away from class and just joining them for stays if you can trust the other dogs Who do you track with yb
  21. checked the rule book and it says Failure to Leave the Starting Peg: Should the dog require more than two commands to leave the Starting Peg in any one exercise, it must be declared unmanageable and receive a Zero score for that exercise or part exercise, whichever is applicable. yb
  22. what do you mean by return to the post do you mean the dog doesnt leave the post when you heel off i think thats a zero score if they do that yb
