Withhold a meal for an hour i was told all food comes off the training field not out of thebowl lol another person told be my dog works for his dinner if he doesnt do the work then no food or for a dog that not food motivated withod the food for a day or two so hes hungry i have seeen people at trials with the dogs ddinner and if the dog doesnt perfrom well then they dont let them have it that isnt positive Somehting i have found lately is a lot of positive trianers are just finding ways to justify what they do like keepint the dog locked up and only getting it out to train it of course that dog works well its called hostage syndrome and its surprising the amount of posiive trainers that use it to get a good working dog for the trial ring All trainers have their fauslts regardless of their trianing philosophy when we all learn to accept each other thast when things will move forward My dogs are fed twice a day and yet still want the food i have even if the dogs been running ll day at the beach if i produce his special toy he wants to pley I believe planet k9 is no longer they had a split or something there is a new group starting up up there though toilet cuck i think has the details

Vibrating Collars For Deaf Dog
yogibear replied to yogibear's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yeah hadnt thought of that K9 hm will have to rethink it -
Mine have chew toys in the yard but the good ones are mine and i share them with the dogs during trianing sessions connors fav is a little horse toy from maccas he has three and will do just about anything for them he also loves his giggle toy. He brings me sticks and 'lovely' things from the yard too but i dont bother with them if he is desperate to play i might get one of the good toys and do a training session because he s a puppy and i think its great to have a train when they are begging for it they are ready to learn then but if i say enough they wont hassle me anymore as they know that means im not in the mood to work

Vibrating Collars For Deaf Dog
yogibear replied to yogibear's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi Erny Trouble is this dog is attending a vca club so it needs to me a collar that doesnt have stimulation just vibration on it the dog is very outgoing friendly am just looking at ideasd for training thinking like you said even as a look at me signal would be great -
Totally agree HR i have met some clicker dogs that are very stressed and tend to be very reactive dogs no different to their traditionally trianed counterparts

Does Breed Determine The Obedience Level?
yogibear replied to fifi trixibell's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I know of another person with a similar problem sheltie that wont come wehn hes called and they say they are an easy breed to trian . Must admit i do get tired of the easy and hard breeds My whippet was fantastic to train picked things up very quickl;y loved to play and chase so was easy to reward The gundogs were great loved to retrive The sheltie would rather herd things than fetch them and is a lot spookier than any other dog i have had but still is learning quickly and now has a good retrieve .. All different types of dogs from all groups and all very different to train but none were easier or harder just differrent -
Hi HR Yes the collar doesnt maketh the training method. Mind yu i was verbally assaulted at a trial once for having my dog in a solid collar Apparently i was trying to show someone up it couldnt posibly have been that the dog i was trialling had come to us after several other people had totally abused the poor thing in the name of trialling and she would literally shake in her boots because you held up a chain of any sort becasue she had had them thrown at her as well as being strung up by them. I trin my dogs using purely positive because i enjoy trianingthat way and am finding it fun But i am also working with a small group that dont use food o toys and we ae slowly bouncing ideas of each other and they are beginning to expand their knowledge they are open minded to new ideas and want to learn Most of them realise their trianing needs a bit of updating but also admit that they just havent felt comfortale around the positive brigade because they seem arrogant Im trying really hadr to get rid of the them and us stigma we are all trainers we should learn how all methods work if for no other eaon thn to understand where the other person is coming from I am trying to dothis myself because i would not have been able to trian the dogs i have and enjoy the sport i do if i had had a closed mind and never listened to epoeples opinios on things

Hi Pippi Yup you have to love those outside the square dogs though they are the best teachers i think yb
-
Hi Pippi we were having this exact conversation today about closed mimded trainers from all walks of life I have met closed minded trainers that wont budge on using a verbal marker rather than a clicker and trainers that still believe the only way to get results is to make them do it They close their eyes to ideas and are missing out on so much good information Though i use very positive training style myself i dont shut out those who use other methods some of the best training tips i have been given have come from people who are to me extremely hard on their dogs so if i had shut them out because i didnt agree with the way they train then i would never have learnt the things i have Does that make any sense at all
-
sorry Mel i disagree on the down the nose thing i was speaking with a delta person only recently who was quite rude and arrogant about the way she trains as being the only way to train a dog.. I have only spoken woth Ndtf people on here and though have often felt the same thing with a few im also willing to give the benefit of the doubt as typing tends to remove a lot of what we are trying to sday i know i reread some of my own posts and thought god i sound like a b#$% Plus peoples personalities are nothing to do with the courses they have done and regardless of a persons beliefs on what is the best way to go about training a dog we are all going to be defensive and some of us do ge emoitionally involved when our ideals are challenged

Best books on reward based training and competition would probably be morgan spectors or i guess david Westons at least he goes through the exercises step by step. Purely positive is great but doesnt have a step by step and only covers foundations if i remeber it does a lot of in my other book Videos Mary rays and Patty Ruzzo come to mind for showing how to use food Pattys is a lot of fun too variable and unpredictable and cookie power i think they are called. They are all aimed at competition obed Morgans is an american book so the exercises are slighly different another is Kaye Lawrences clicker worl obedienc has a video too havent read or seen it but have heard its very good -

Ok will give her a call they are expensive so will have to wait till i save some bickies I know what you mean about starting out im am very careful which books i lend out to people as i find some can be too overwhelming ofr them ALtely i have started handing out short articles to people rather than books the articles cover the keypoints we have spoken about and then if they want more i reccomend some books. They love the articles i have written them in plain enh\glish using lots of analogys to explain things. -
I agree with haven i havent used stay for years and it hasnt casued any problems for us yb
