Sorry Stormie - I was editing as you were posting. It was mentioned again after you posted so was just clarifying that the dose would still have been high.

Leigh is a Lab so would imagine she is alot more than 7kgs now(mentioned earlier in relation to toxic dose). From rish's previous posts Leigh would be about 15 weeks old. Only a baby. The dose would probably still be 'toxic' and would have required apo or similar to make her vomit to get rid of it. Was it definitely aspirin/disprin?

https://services.apvma.gov.au/AerpWebApp/ The above site allows owners, vets, etc to report adverse effects of pesticides - snail and rat bait, pyrethrin etc If your pet has been affected by these products despite the false warnings that they are pet safe please report the case. We may be able to get these products removed or changed.

Is there any way you can block off doorways so she isn't crated for so long? She is effectively confined for 17 hours!! We have an open plan living area and put a baby gate in each hallway opening so Amber had a big area with lino flooring - we put newspaper on the floor near the door and she would use this (or wait til we got home and go outside). I did have a puppy pen that she was kept in at night until she got older. She was/is occassionally crated. I would definitely make your pup's area bigger and more interesting.

Feeding After A Bout Of Diarrhoea
kendall replied to kendall's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for the replies everyone Had to head out for most of the day but have come home to a 'back to normal' doggy She has done a normal poo and I have given her some chicken and rice (just a small amount) and she wolfed it down. Not surprising after a 24 hour break from food. I suspect it may have been caused by the treats she had. *note to self* - never buy smoked treats AGAIN! I made extra chicken and rice so will give her small amounts over the next few days to make sure all is ok Her current ear infection is only her second one but it just seems to be hanging around Getting better now though. -
Poor little Amber (my 15 month old Cocker Spaniel) had a number of loose (varying in degree) motions Monday night and yesterday. I think it has been caused by one of two things (or possibly both)....at my mum's on Monday she had a smoked rolled rawhide treat and possibly the other dogs' treats too (she has not had one before) plus she is being treated for a persistent ear infection with pred (delta cortef). I know that pred can sometimes cause diarrhoea and on vet advice didn't give her tablets last night and will hold off to make sure the diarrhoea has stopped before starting again. She has been known to have a sensitive tummy with new things so it could be the overload of smoked treats (if she did actually have more than one - 3 other dogs were given them too). Anyway, she seems better today - I haven't fed her since yesterday morning (she did steal some cat food later in the day though). She keeps looking at me forlornly "I'm sooooo hungry mum!" (you know the look ). I will wait til later to feed her but...is chicken and rice the best thing to start her back on? Can I used BBQ chicken instead of boiling some up (so I can have some too )? Could I just give her a smaller amount of her usual food (Advance adult Chicken biscuits)? i/d from the vet? TIA

I work in an emergency vet hospital and the staff there are trying to get the labels on rat bait and snail pellets changed to reflect the actual danger they pose to pets. Ring the company that makes the bait and TELL THEM that your pets had to be hospitalised and treated because they ingested the poison. If everyone that had to deal with this let the company know they may change their labelling. I will try to find out the details of who to call when Igo into work next. You could also ring the Poisons Info line and tell them. If you are on facebook, a friend has started a group called 'snail pellets are fatal to pets' which also covers rodenticides. Join and send the link to your fellow facebookers to get the word out. Even if the packaging says it is safe for pets IT ISN"T!!! Hope your dogs are ok

Thanks heaps Rappie That is what I was trying to confirm

Yeah I know it's a fungus and that it is very contagious. Bleach only kills about 80% too so bleaching everything doesn't always work either. It is a type of Tinea and there are different names/types for where they affect you and who they affect. I will copy and paste what one of the sites says to show what I am asking..... "Contagiousness Ringworm of the skin is mildly contagious. It requires direct skin-to-skin contact. The type acquired from pets is not transmitted from human to human, only from animal to human. After 48 hours of treatment, ringworm is not contagious at all. Your child doesn't have to miss any school or day care." from here I know Ringworm (tinea) can pass from animal to human to animal and even human to human BUT can the Microsporum canis type be transferred from dog to person and then onto another person - only that particular type (as per the bolded bit above).
-
I read on a few sites this morning that while ringworm can be transferred from dogs to humans it can't then be transferred from human to human. Does anyone know if this is true? None of my pets have ringworm but I have had exposure to possible ringworm and I am wanting to take every precaution obviously so that my kids and pets don't get it. Clothes are soaking, shoes will be bleached. Hair and body SCRUBBED (and scrubbed some more!!!). Damn infectious diseases! EWWWWWW just to clarify - I am talking about M. canis and 'catching' it from a dog and then passing it on to humans (when they have not had contact themselves with the affected animal). The sites are children's hospital/health ones and they say that humans can't pass it on to other humans when they have caught it from animals. We can obviously pass it on to other animals though.

Help! Daisy Has Eaten A Huge Bunch Of Grapes!

It's not just the vomiting up that helps - even though you have found vomit - they need fluid treatment to help their kidneys and prevent issues later on. Good luck -

kendall replied to Joypod's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Grape ingestion can lead to kidney issues if left untreated. You need to have your dog made to vomit and then put on fluid treatment to 'flush' it through. Definitely ring the emergency vet.I would take both dogs to be safe. The vet will ask you if you have other dogs anyway so you may as well save yourself an extra trip. dog info - grapes and raisins -
Advocate comes in in 10-25kg packs (as well as other sizes ) so if this is what you are using and he is 15kg now you should be ok for his next dose. If he is due for his next dose in a week or so there should be no dramas OR were you previously using the 4-10kg dose? If so, I would donate the remaining dose to a rescue group or friend and buy the bigger pack. You won't get the correct worming dose for the intestinal worms or have the monthly heartworm, ear mite etc protection if the dose is too small. My opinion of course... but you can always check with your vet or even ring the info line. ps you know we need photos of Zach :D
