Yes well that does get a smile on our faces too I have to admit :D See, he'll look so cute no one will notice if he isnt standing perfectly :D You will have nothing to worry about LOL

Great news Centiout, And to be honest there is always something cute about a puppy that isnt a robot when they start out, ;) if they do the flippy thing, no body cares ,they are babies and babies need to enjoy the fun part of showing, so just have fun. How often do you see everyone laughing when the babies go in , its not just because they are bouncing around its because we have all been there done that And you usually see the judges laughing as well. Babies have the AAAWW factor and besides I have seen babies stacking perfectly at home every time, but get them to the show and they pull out all the stops to do the wrong thing And vice a versa so dont worry .

My GSD's are sooks, love everybody But a few months back Bryd's was asleep , and my OH had walked out the back and she hadnt heard him, well he opened the gate and she went crazy, she was barking so loud that she couldnt hear him telling her it was Ok it was him, she didnt go to bite him, but she didnt run off, and thats all I want from my dogs, I want them to be protective, would she have bitten, if it was someone she didnt know and he had run , I dont know. I think most people only want protectivenesss from their loyal pets, I know I for one would hate for my dogs to have to bite someone. My old GSD girl RIP was the classic story of not knowing what they would do She was just the quiet family pet. But you never know how they will react when you are not there either. The owner of next door had been in and out all day working with OH, she just laid in the shade watching everything. Well OH had to go across to the shop, across the road, well next door neighbour came over walked in as he had been all day and she met him at the gate , just a slight growl, but refusing to let him in. OH walked around the corner to see the NDN walking backwards saying "Its Ok I wont come in, its OK " ;) Would she have bitten him if he kept coming we will never know but she was warning him and standing her ground. As soon as she saw OH she walked away and laid in the shade ;) NDN always made sure he sang out after that, even if he knew we were home.Poor fella LOL

My Dogs Have Killed A Snake And Eaten The Head
carlibud replied to Chocolate's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gives me cold shivers but if it was a while since you found it, they more than likely havn't been bitten, hopefully, cause I live 5 houses form the vet and when my old GSD girl was bitten by a brown , well we thought she had, as she had blood all over her, and the vet said "Cant of been a brown, as she would of been dead by the time I got there. As it turned out the snake had bitten her, the blood, though was from the snake, and yes it was a brown, as I had t go back and get it, and when I got it back the vet said Oh gee its not dead yet anyways the vet found that the fang was still in her nose, thats how quick she was, the fang was ripped out, and I have been told that there is a pad in the top of the mouth that when it bites down,it pushes on that pad and that releases the venom, so that is why it seems that she survived that attack, it obviously hadnt pushed down on that pad thingy . I have also been told that even dead snakes should be treated with care, as if you do happen to get scratched by the fangs you can still get bitten( as such) but then dont know how true that is because unless you touched the pad thingy you wouldnt get the venom in/on you so not sure about that one. :D Unless as someone said the angry snake may of pumped some out into the end of its fangs :D God I hate snakes Good luck and hope your dogs are OK. -
Something I was told Centiout with my GSD's was to actually slide the back feet back instead of lifting and placing, and they tend to not move them straight away. I have been doing this with my girl since a baby and she hasnt moved her legs anywhere nearly as much as my others have as babies so it has worked with her, so that may be worth a try too . And I also stand every time I have a play with them, I stack just for a second, even if its not a perfect stack, praise heaps and then play, they treat it as fun then and get excited when I do it, cause they get personal attention also,

well that answers if maybe the person wasnt happy with the judges opinion LOL

I don't know what "WL's" and "SL's" are, but my dog (GSD) does exactly what she is bred for: great versatile all-round intelligent, loyal, energetic, steadfast, courageous companion, friend, guardian, obedience, family dog. Don't know what all the flack is about, but there is nothing like a good ol' fashioned German Shepherd Dog!!! Hi Czara. Well WL is working Lines and SL is show Lines. Alot of breeders of GSD's tend to get very one eyed (for the want of a better saying LOL) on Working lines being stronger ( again for the want of the right word before anyone starts ranting at me LOL) than show lines. I agree there is nothing like the good ole German Shepherd and it shouldnt be the "We are better than YOU" type of argument but it always seems to turn that way, that is why I started this thread and it has been very very interesting with some excellent posts.

Great news Ange, I loved his pic in the White Shepherd Thread ( I think it was there LOL) and thought he was gorgeous , very exciting news and Huge congrats to all
-
I agree Pf friends had a Maremma and he was gorgeous and it still amazes me how they walk them the boundry and they know thats theirs to protect, just fantastic. They do look such teddy bears dont they. Yes it does anger me also that people would cross these dogs with other breeds but then it does with a lot of the X's anyway, but these breeds have such a dominate purpose dont they

Thanks! She's a great dog, great family pet while still retaining the Irish personality! Her brother is also a Danny. Great name. What kennels was your Mum's from? PM me if you would prefer. Not sure if she knows but possibly 2P's does( my sister LOL) Will see if she knows, he was a sort of rescue as such, as his elderly owner had died and he was in the kennels till the daughter could find a home for him, but he was a real sweetheart. We had one when we were kids, gee 40 years ago I guess But she was gorgeous too. Hey that is so true Lilli Love it.

This is what many people don't understand with the GSD Carlibud, those high prey drive lines are not correct either, they are bred to extremes in the same fashion as the GSD's with little prey drive at all. A good well balanced GSD can do it all, an "all rounder" is what they are supposed to be and is what the breed's versatility is all about. A good GSD could have been taken down the career path as a guard dog or a search and rescue dog or herding dog etc. The same dog had it been purchased by a pet owner could take on the role of a child's playmate and family companion and do that job just as well. In other words, a good well bred and balanced GSD should have the genetic quality to take on "any" of the roles that the breed standards describe, not all at once from the same dog as training routines for specific jobs can increase or suppress certian traits and abilities, but any good quality puppy should be able to be assigned to any of the breeds given roles, trained accordingly and do the job well. :D You are right Diablo the GSD is an all rounder, but you have to admit that most dogs that are seen by the average people are either the quieter family pets or the over the top high maintence hyper dog that needs occupying 24/7 Only us that own them really see the joining of the two Which goes for all breeds anyway I guess. I agree with Lilli though that if a breed as a whole is the same, dont get one if thats not the temp you want, but with other breeds that do have the quieter version, for the want of a better word ,we should be able to get the quieter lines or the higher prey drive, what ever suits our wants and/or needs but that is JMO of course. I love the GSD's they are my breed, but I personally dont like the high maintence lines, I love my quieter, family pet types LOL But again thats my choice of what I want in my breed, whether it be incorrect or not ;) By some that is. As they saying goes which is very true Carlibud, the GSD is not the best dog at any one task, there are breeds that can do one task better, but the GSD is second best at "everything" i agree wholeheartdly of course LOL

yes of course, Shadow Walker thats true SW . And some will always get more from any dog than someone else would be able to. Or like my girl, as a puppy she didnt seem overly hypo at all, but by the time she was ,I suppose, about 8 months OH MY GOD, she was over the top.

Love your Irish terrier pic lyndsay , mum just had to have her old boy put down a couple of months ago, Danny, good Irish name hey. LOL The Terriers and the Gundogs as general rule of thumb still seem to do alot of what they were bred for it seems, if not on a working basis of course but if given a chance they will hunt LOL

Yes of course these high prey dogs can be great pets Greytmate, but alot need more than the average family pet, from as you say, very committed owners, as you say. Which is the point we were trying to make, when the dogs are trained for these test's overseas from the Breed Clubs, because as you say, they need the high prey drive to do it. But I guess its why these dogs having undergone these tests, and passing them, are imported to keep these strong drives in our dogs here But then again in saying what you have about getting a different breed Greytmate, not all Wei's are like that, are they, so the average family can still get the breed of their choice, or do they tend to be high maintenence breed???? ( as in high prey drive I mean)The ones I have had to do with havnt been over the top. Or is it in a general sense, like the GSd's more just some lines, that are like this??

QUOTE The weimaraner of course does everything right for her breed... high prey drive, copious amounts of energy and endurance, the desire to retrieve, the desire to chase, the desire to be a companion and the desire to protect. Companion is what is focused upon more in the breed today in Australia, but in Germany a Weimaraner that is incredibly protective, and has passed all working tests as well as titled in conformation are the only ones eligible to breed, and the WEimaraner Klubb has a very strict procedure in place to ensure this is what happens. In a way it is great, but many, many weimaraners in Germany would not be suitable for the average family... in Germany, you have to meet certain criteria to own the breed, and you must go through the club in order to obtain a pup... so what is better? Iam just not sure. END QUOTE This bit I highlighted is what has been said about alot of breeds, the dogs in there original country do these tests on them but would they be suitable for the average family, I dont think so as a general rule of thumb, so as much as people still do some of the work they were bred for alot of people just want a great family pet, not a dog that has the high prey drive that alot of breeds need to have to pass these tests that the Breed Clubs overseas want for our dogs. Great comment Sparky Tansy and what I've been thinking but couldnt put the words together LOL I actually saw a woman with her granddaughter at the park today who had her GSD with her, well he was off lead and its right near the main road, but anyway the GrandDaughter was hiding and the dog was running around and standing near her and the Grandmother would find her, and it was actually great to see this big sooky Lala, getting pats off everyone but still doing his protective role and on guard and knowing the family ;) They wouldnt of worked this dog and he would be needed as a guard dog, knowing the sort of people they are involved with, if you know what I mean LOL

What has this post got to do with the topic may I ask Carlibud??? UUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMM Let me see, how the GSD can be an all rounder, not just a protector or guard dog, but a good family dog etc etc, I think is pretty close to what Shadow Walker was talking about Or thats what I took out of it anyway Jules P I agree it is amazing how different the working dog herding styles can be, I love to watch dogs, whatever breed they are, working sheep Their concentration level is amazing. Would love to see all those breeds working together, some of my favourite breeds in that list of your's LOL
