I hope your puppy recovers quickly. xxx Call me old fashioned/neurotic but I'd never let a pup (or dog or cat) have an upset tummy for 3 days, or think I could fix it at home. Dehydration is a killer. Better safe than sorry. If you have meds this time, that does not mean you need them every time. It is dependent on what the reason is for the upset stomach. The vet was just being conservative as I'm sure they've seen animals go donwhill very fast through this condition.

Oh no i'm so terribly sorry about this poor dog. It's everyone's worse nightmare over the summer. Just terrifying. I hope we do not hear of this again :D Just awful. :D I'm desperately frightened of losing an animal to a snake. Just remember, ALL snakes swim. We have had many in our pool (even when we were in it!) and also only just stopped our 3 dogs entering a creek when OH saw the biggest red belly we have ever seen, having a noon swim. Please never allow your dogs to swim without checking first. We used to have ferries in SA and have even seen land snakes swimming in the sea at the jetty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As far as tiger snakes go, yes if you corner them they will defend themselves, but will only bite as a last resort, ie. when trodden on, squished etc. First they rear up and hiss to scare you off and do give a warning. Secondly, they will not go out of their way to chase you We lived with many many of them on Kangaroo Island. Had nests under the house, met up with many on our walks crossing our path, and have never even had so much as a look from a snake.. Had them sunning on our front deck at the front door!! I've had one bad experience with them and lost a lovely cat (30 years ago so since then, no cats outdoors!!! ever) and she did have antivenom. The first words my children learnt included SNAKE, and they would stamp their feet on the floor before going out the front door! The snakes would take off. We allowed the kids to collect tadples in a bucket and found a huge snake drinking the water, so, NO more water outside anywhere, also, no chooks, aviaries, etc etc. Common sense prevents snake bite unless you are extremely unlucky and I don't know anyone personally who was ever bitten, even though we were inundated with snakes. Of course dogs do not have our benefit of knowing, RIP poor puppy.xxxxx

;) Same here, with lots of 'talking' with toy in mouth! the viz is frantic to find a toy, even if you just get off the settee or change rooms! even does it to the cats, shoves a slimey grotty toy in their faces, and they are REALLY impressed ;) We have to leave toys all over the house for these moments (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) for these moments or else she goes intp panic mode. The spin is the same but calmer about it, she will always greet with a toy, or even her giant snuggly rug! I think the gundogs are the most mouthy breeds for the toy thing. Visitors think we have 6 kids here

Advice On Fighting Between My Dogs
Monah replied to spanky's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Agree with Aidan and toller. We had very similar issues (not actual fights, but quick argy bargy by one dog) and have resolved them (although I would never say cured) in the ways mentioned, and I know you have Jane etc. to also ask and she was wonderfully helpful with us. I'm sure she will be ongoing via emails etc. with lots of help daily if you need it. On a lighter note, OMG!! congratulations Sparky, wonderful news, fabulous. Your Frenchies are so lovely, I hope you are able to help them with their problem. Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year!!xxxxxxxx -
Hi Wags, got ours too!!! Lovely thanks. They are all perfect and I'm dying to have a play. but I can't let the girls see!! They watched me open the package and the 'bottle' buddy made a noise and they were soooooo interested Very nosey!!! I quickly checked it all out and put them high in the cupboard!! Bloody dogs are 'stalking' the cupboard now and WANT the package. xxx

250 pitbulls rescued by a woman who matches them with crims for the good of both. Lovely story. On Ellen now. Just gorgeous!!
-
Hi, also get her checked for bladder stones. My old ACD had enormous ones! I don't know how she held on for so long, poor thing. She was a different girl after having them removed!!

Pippin, Mike SHipstone, a specialist with ears and dermatology, visits the Nambour vets about once a month or so. He is fantastic!! I completely understand about the driving. I LOATHE the Bruce Highway
-
Jen, the dermatologist is who I see for Roisin, He is excellent and so is his highly trained vet nurse. Mike Shipstone. They have a resident vet, it was Fiiona Bateman (I guess she's still there), very lovely lady. And HEAPS of other people and all the latest and greatest equipment. Cost is no different to other vets as far as I have experienced and because they are so experienced there is no messing about. They know their stuff. My vets here are truly wonderful, but if I were in Bris I'd go to these

I've been to this one in Nambour, lovely, Claude is very friendly!! I saw a visiting specialist there. Another great one that I LOVE is North Coast Vets, 431 Tanawha tourist drive, (right near the deer farm thingy) Tanawha. ph 5453 7555 www.NCVS.NET.AU [email protected] They also have a brown burmese little girl who patrols the surgery and is really lovely!! plus several other animals around. They are wonderful. Of course, just because Richard is cuter than George Clooney (HONESTLY!) doesn't colour my opinion :D They are super top of the range, every tech thing invented, spotless, and bloody clever!

HI Jen, there are great vets at Queensland vet specialists, 263 Appleby Road, Stafford Heights, 4053, ph. 3359 0777 www.qldvetspecialists.com.au They are really good :D I've driven there from Hervey Bay to see them before. Dont know any others down there, but these really are terrific. ;) Not just specialists either, all vets etc.

Bokezu, I too keep collars and tags. i still have them from the 70's. It is a great comfort. Dyzney Jordan, such a lovely wonderful boy. Heartbreaking. The pain must be awful. I hope you and OH can find some solace somehow Bokezu. I still talk to my dogs in the garden too, in their special place. I KNOW they are with me. Even now if I see a dog that reminds me of one of mine, I break down. If I had any advice on how to cope I would give it, but I don't. So sorry.xxxxxxxxxxxx

Phew, I couldn't remember WHAT these toys were called or who had them etc. Been trying to zap the brain into remembering. Will get onto it now, thanks to Aimee for resurrecting this

Bundys Mum, all I can say is MEN! Train the OH. Bundy is fine and normal, dear little boy. When he is taken out, by whoever, the person MUST wait, however long it takes, for Bundy to go. Then praise him like crazy. He is going out, sniffing etc. , getting the urge, then taken inside. It is so hard when one person does the right thing, and another doesn't, confusing for the pup. Consistency is the key. It may seem 'silly', and that the dog should just go when put out etc., but they don't. No point saying that Bundy should, he is a baby and goes when he needs to, he can't hold until the next 'outing'. Don't distract him whilst he is supposed to be 'going' either, no play etc. just concentrate on the job and tell him do wees or the word you are going to use, eventually, when you say the word, he will go! May take a few months, but it will happen. Makes life easy for trips etc. when they know you want them to go. My spin who has a fantastic bladder, will crouch to look like she is going and do nothing! as she knows I'm waiting for her to go and she may not need to go. I still even make sure my girls, now nearly 3 and 4, 'go' before I go out and before they go to bed, even before they go for a walk (saves carry poo! ).

People Wonder Why I'm Scared Of Spiders...
Monah replied to Leithy's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Great pics. We had an encounter with a beast years ago in my daughter's bedroom. It was a gigantic bird eating tarantula MASSIVE, Now they sell baby ones for $100 No thanks. Daughter slept with son for 3 months she would not go back to her room, can't blame her. She was about 17 at the time. We are all still scarred by the night of the beast. -
Sorry Bokezu, hadn't looked in here before More love to you all, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx A beautiful wonderful boy gone far too soon :D ;)

Sorry, I didn't go into all the detail, I was generalising, but yes, I did follow an elimination diet and know what it is having done several years at uni doing animal science. My fault for bad communication. My dog was tested for doens of allergens, including all foods, and no foods produced a reaction at all. The plant based reactions were severe and she had to have an anti-allergy injection just for the drive home. I can only go on my own experiences, which luckily have turned out wonderfully for us. It is unfortunate that elimination diets take such a long time to prove one way or another, and then often you have to start all over again, meanwhile the dog is suffering. A very quick and true diagnosis can be made via testing. THen at least you know for sure and can get on with treatment. Even if it is a food, at least you know and don't have to try weeks or months of trial and error. I agree with your post Erny, esp. when people feed their dogs all sorts of rubbish. Another thing is that some areas have many more cases of allergies than others. Hervey Bay apparrantly is one of the worse areas for animal allergies (and even human!) because of the amount of certain plant materials here. Elsewhere my dog probably would not have developed an allergy.xxx
