Playfights that escalate and need separating beacuse they go bad are NOT playfighting. I strongly suggest YOU get a behaviourist in yourself. Some great advice here. Please keep the dogs separate until this is sorted, otherwise it could be fatal Often dogs are OK with 'visitors', but not with 'live ins'. entire boys and a female are going to be a problem. I wish you a good outcome and please protect the animals meanwhile.

Roisin, my spinone is just like my son, bit lazy, favourite hobby is relaxing!, affectionate, sweet, helpful, quiet, loves to please, slightly stubborn! Monah the viz is my daughter, busy, demanding, loud, sporty, has to be doing something, centre of attention, loving, responsible, in charge Hilarious how much like the kids they are! even their interactions are the same between them as the kids!

I'll be interested to see this too. I feel the same as you. I must say, I cannot ever remember so much focus on 'play dates' etc. when I had dogs growing up, showing as well. Socialisation is a good thing, but I think we are going completely overboard with the play thing. Ours get plenty of fun times with us, each other, cats and the odd dog that visits. I do love to see them run together. Some breeds dont' seem to be at all interested anyway, our wolfies showed such a lack of interest in other dogs that it was embarrassing

How To Complain To Other Owner Nicely
Monah replied to sallyandtex's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wouldn't go. Do you have any friends with dogs that you can socialise with? I don't think dogs should, or do have the need to be 'friends' with every other dog. Mine focus on me, even at the beach with other dogs around. If someone comes up with their dog we are able to keep ours with us, but if they are showing any signs of wanting to play that's OK, this is pretty rare. They do have friends and family dogs. every wild dog prefers it's own family and wont actively seek out other dogs as friends. I dont know if domestic are the same, but I do tend to think it is us as humans who feel bad for our dogs if they dont have a circle of friends. I've only used 'dog parks' as a last resort when we moved to darwin, and made sure I went when they were very quiet which was usually when it was boiling hot and wet I have also asked a couple of people to please grab their dog. I also think they are a little young for a full on dogs everywhere experience, I'd be on the table too!!! -
This will probaly be me too. I also have 2 young dogs (bit older than yours NOW, but I remember when they were that age.... ) of 3 and 4 yrs. I'd love to adopt an older male vizsla. so many out there need rehoming. OH says no more dogs..... but we'll see.... I'd LOVE a bracco, standard poodle, affenpinscher, portugese, boston, greyhound, cattle dog, lakelands or welshies, wire viz, more spinone, foxhound, and many dogs that are not in aust yet. I'd also love to show again, so maybe would get a pup in the future. Just have to ditch the OH! :D There are many breeds I would still love to have, but I'm too bloody old and they would outlive me! DOL has not influenced me at all, I was showing in the 70s and had purebred dogs for since I was born. Also have had many homeless dogs etc., taken on friends dogs when they have had to give them up for some reason, all sorts. My girlchild and her BF are going OS again next year, he has a BC who we had looked after on and off for years, part of the family. so it looks like we will be back to 3 dogs for a couple of years or so anyway. So, Poodlefan!! Spill :D come one, you want a vizsla dont you! you can tell me :D

No, it is not the whole point. The point is that people want to use his methods for problem dogs on ordinary pets. The steps missing when you do that are having the experience that Cesar does to diagnose the issue and to know just how far a dog can be pushed. Most pet owners simply don't have that much savvy. As Patricia McConnell (who believe me, does not need to feel jealous) explains, Cesar's methods often take dogs up to and over their bite threshold. If you think inciting ordinary pets to bite you is an acceptable biproduct of a training method, then you have a different approach to dog training than I do. Personally, I think Cesar tends to perpetuate the myth (not directly but by inference) that most issues with dogs can be solved by dominating them. Ah, if only it was that simple. I've read Cesar devotees on other forums explaining that any disobedience can be resolved by pinning a dog to the ground. I tend to think training a dog is a better option. I think some of his messages are great - particularly on the importance of exercise. Others, are far more problematic. have to agree with this too. I have hardly seen any of his programs, no pay TV. but when it was on free tv I saw a couple. One in particular, maybe because it was a vizsla was rather upsetting. He even got down next to it's rug (where the dog was resource guarding and very nasty) and was quite rough with it. I thought he would lose his face any minute. It bothered me because the treatment was not nice and 2. there were children in the house watching and OMG! what if one does that one day? challenges the dog for it's bone? anyway, I have heard rather than seen that he is exceptional most of the time, I just know my viz would not take very well to that at all.

Hi Costas Mum, we have snoozies in our dogs crates, they have a sheepskin look and are padded and washable. Ours love them so much we also have them in the back of the 4wd and on the floor! NOt that they are often on the floor! I know you can get them at the big pet place where the discount chemist and WOW are, can't remember the street name! but its only 10 mins from palmerston on a major corner, I"m sure you would have been past it. I got mine in QLD and they come in black or cream. They are still good after 5 years of constant use and washing. Dont' forget to put pics up in the vizsla thread in breed pages!!!!! xxx

Puppy Farm Raid Kingaroy (will Transport To Brisbane/se)
Monah replied to Border Lover's topic in General Dog Discussion
How do they get away with it for so bloody long? Funnily enough in our paper recently there have been some very odd crosses and I've wondered WTF?? Botders crossed with all sorts of things including cresteds!! powder puffs, pugs :D etc on and on and on. Sick. ;) -
Ok I'll wade in too. ;) Jap spitz very often are barkers, so I dont know if this is worse if they are alone a lot. I only know half a dozen, and all have become nuisance barkers although they are lovely dogs. The also shed a lot as do shelties and I think vallhunds (someone will correct me here if I"m wrong ) vallhunds are also from a working/herding background and can be determined. They are similar to the pembroke corgi. Border terriers and Manchesters are both terrific and will warning bark. Borders need stripping occassionally. schipperkes are fantastic little dogs, maybe too small for you. springers, english and welsh are extremely busy and energetic (I adore them!!) My neighbour has 2 cockers who would fit your list perfectly. I also think the cav too. Some of the other spaniels that would be lovely may be very difficult to get hold of, the field and clumber. I've had cattle dogs and they also are fine alone, great guard dogs, very friendly, the perfect size, and easy to train, very intelligent but this is probably not what you are after. They can also need a fair bit of exercise but nothing like the kelpie or border. A 'good' ACD is an incredible and loyal companion and protective. The other breeds I think of would either have the wrong face (Boston, french bulldog), wrong shape (greyhound, people are afraid of them so great 'guard', lazy, short coat, very friendly, rehome ones are matched to owners), too small, (griffon brux, affenpinscher. powder puff, tibetan spaniel) or too big!! :D

Fantastic! ;) If only the poor people in Bundaberg who lost their daughter had had a dog

That's really dreadful NZ Ghastly person Loathesome behaviour, just turns my stomach. I'd never use one. Or anyone else in that sort of 'business'. I'm sure there are 'skills' that humans have had and lost, and maybe a very very very few do have some insights and feelings that are appropriate. Communication between both humans and animals is an ongoing education. Animals communicate very well without speech and humans had this ability once, so it is in our DNA somewhere. I can (and have) write things down that I think will happen and these things have turned out to occur even though some of them were written over 30 years ago. I call it common sense but if I wanted to I could call it something else. I also always go on 'gut feelings' and have never been let down by these at all. OH thinks it's spooky but it's just awareness. OMG! love the horse story

2 springer spaniels escaped on landing from UK at Bris airport a couple of years ago ;) One was caught, the other poor thing was found later in the surrounding scrub, died from a tick The family was absolutely distraught. Shocking beginning to their Aust. lives. :p

:p We moved to Darwin and back last year, took 5 days each way, 2 dogs, 4 cats and the birdy in our car :D All in the caravan at night to sleep, well, not much sleep with them all!!! in a tiny van bed with OH and I. ;)
-
I've never even thought about it. We've moved many times with kids, dogs, cats, fish, even a turtle Every time, even driving interstate etc, EVERYONE is together. One in , all in. Firstly I have no one who I'd leave any of them with, secondly, well, I guess even if I did I wouldn't. It's never been difficult or a problem. All the animals settle easily. I think if 'you' are there, they are fine. They like to be with their humans, I just helped ninahartland from Dol rescue move a couple of days ago. 4 dogs the trip was only a couple of hours to pick them up, then back here. The dogs were perfect and fine and settled as soon as they got to their new house. no issues. xxx my lot LOVE the unpacking ;)

Thanks, I'll do that. I have posted in rescue and GSD breed pages, just in case. She sounds lovely. Poor woman, poor dog.

I received this email this morning from a relative in Cairns. This girl is very lovely and needs a loving home. I loathe the way society separates people and their pets at these times. It will come to us all eventually... I forgot!! She is a GERMAN SHEPHERD!!! From: Sent: Thursday, 18 February 2010 7:52 PM Subject: 9 Year Old Long Coat Bitch Hi Was hoping someone could help me with re homing this bitch please. Kimmie is a 9 year old desexed girl who I groom every fortnight. Her owner is quite elderly and is basically incapacitated and as a result Jackie’s family are moving her into a nursing home in Sydney. Jackie’s family are unable to have Kimmie as they live in a town house and she is not able to have her in the nursing home. She has very reluctantly agreed to re home Kimmie. So this is where I need your help, if you know of anyone who would like a well mannered, obedient, gets on with people and I am told dogs. She is a very healthy girl from what I can see, she is used to being an indoor dog and is very well mannered inside. If you can help or know of anyone who might could you please forward this email onto them, please. This needs to be done soon as they are moving Jackie in the next couple of weeks and told me tonight they will just leave Kimmie at the house by her self until a home is found. I get the impression that the ‘family’ are not dog people and don’t seem to understand what effect this would have on Kimmie. If you can help please contact me 0417073019 or via email and I will pass on details to the family. They are happy for her to go to Sydney etc also if anyone has a home down there… Thanks Jacqui
