Yukky. Be careful, could it be roundup or a similar poison? My spin goes to great lengths to try and roll in this stuff, no idea why?? I have to watch her like a hawk after poisoning

Great post skysoaring I have a close friend who got a cav, lovely dog who I often babysat, but they thought it would be easy care, ended up having lots of ear problems and I took him to the vet often as they did not follow up with meds No dog is easy, maybe if that word is being mentioned that's what puts breeders off?

Is it possible to visit a breeder or strike up a relationship at a show etc? WIth all my dogs I've had close ties with the breeders and have been offered dogs left right and centre when they have had dogs returned or people change their minds. You build up trust etc. I'm glad that breeders care where their pups go. You know you will offer a great home, but on 'paper' it may not be obvious. emails and phone calls arent' really enough these days with all the awful places around. You will also find that once word gets round the 'circles' that you are a good prospect that you could be inundated with doggie offers. My cousin has 4 top notch champions that she has been given over the years, because everyone knows she is dedicated to dog sports and the dogs. I also had dogs when my kids were tiny (well before they were born and got more after) and although they were not what a lot of people with little children would have (wolfhounds, giant schnauzers and lakeland terriers), all were wonderful as were the kids and most of the time we had 5 kids at home, from ages newborn to 6 and then as they grew up. I think you'll find with just a little more effort that you will have a dog before you know it, even if you are on a waiting list. They just have to meet you and see what a great home their dog could have

Yes, I was just going to say there are 11 mature (some are very young, just not small pups) listings on the mature dog pages on the home page. Also try the cav thread in breed pages and have a 'chat' to them there about getting a dog and they will have the very best advice as they all have this breed.

Thanks Hetz. I didn't think of googling! Yes, he is excellent and scientific which I really enjoy. Feel like another annual read coming on........................

italmum, puppies (and dogs) need time out from children and hopefully, should never be frightened by them. A frightened dog may learn to bite (protection) or become timid. If you do get one, supervison so that doesn't happen is the best. xxxx

Have you checked out mature dogs on the DOL breed pages? There may be some there. I can understand that some breeders would be a bit worried. Sometimes its a good idea to build up a relationship with a breeder first. Can't help you re problems aquiring a dog, my neighbours have 4 small children and had no issues getting 2 cockers (who are very lovely and spoilt!!) Surely there are some breeders around who are ok with it? Maybe it's something else. Good luck, they are a beautiful breed

I love all breeds. That doesn;t mean I'd own all breeds, but I've never ever met a dog I didn't like or bond with. I was bitten by a corgi when I was little, but I was running and it bit me on the back of the legs, pretty basic for a herding breed. My mum talked about it for years, I didn't even remember!! so much for trauma I've had all types from wolfhounds to maltese and rescues. all wonderful I've had ACDS and so many people dont like them, I really dont get it, they are the perfect dog. ;)

7.30 Report Abc To Do Expose On Dd Puppy Farms
Monah replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ha you beat me to it. Yes, it looks very good, I dont know if I will be able to watch ;) although I usually always do watch 7.30, I think it would be great to record and keep to show anyone who is thinking of a pet shop etc. dog. The dogs look so frightened , it's very confronting, why they dont show this stuff on 'Idiot Affair" (sorry tracey) I dont know. It would be great if dolers can tell their friends to watch, I hope (it looks like it) it is negative to DDs and puppy farms. PRetty shocking too. I am putting it on my facebook as I have already got Puppy farm stuff on there and it's amazing how some people not onnly have NO IDEA but have not heard of PUPPY FARMS -
I read it every year or so, yes, I really like it too. He has written many books

Oh what a shame. I have a dog with severe HD, in fact the leg is not even in the joint. This dog is an angel, just gorgeous, never ever shown any aggression at all. My other HEALTHY dog however can be a bit unfriendly with other dogs. I'm guessing yes the dog has been in pain, but also the aggression could have many reasons. I would not expect the pain relief to get rid of aggression but I'm certainlly no expert. Maybe she was touched in her behind once and felt severe pain, and it has stayed in her subconcious, I have seen this with my viz when she burnt her nose on the dashboard and has never (4 yrs!) gone in the front again and is terrified of touching the dash. I'm sure she does not remember why she is frightened, only that she is. I cant tell you how much pain your dog is in. Ours copes really well and we manage with short walks, swimming and previcox. No op. but maybe later when she is old. I would see a specialist before making any sort of decision. we see an orthapedic surgeon once a year. Very sad, hope it all works out.xxxxxxxx

Very interesting, so sorry for all these dogs. My worst nightmare along with snakebite I'm amazed at the corgi and mini bully, although I know all animals can suffer bloat.

Poll: Have You Ever Used The Report Button

Giardia is extemely common in pets and humans esp those who drink from water tanks. When our dogs had it now and again, it was treated the same as humans with flagyl. You cannot 'prevent' giardia, only treat it. Unless you intend to live on meds forever. Indigirl, I dont know about it being passed along the line like that, more likely you all drank the same water over a period of time. Giardia also returns often once you have had it. My GF had 5 boys who all had it, they wee very careful with water on the farm, boiled all the tank water etc and did not allow them to use tap water to brush teeth etc. she could not understand it, UNTIL she saw them suck the flannel when they were having baths Bloody tanks are alive with giardia, the whole of KI had it at one time or another.

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm such a romantic..... Well, I have printed off 55!!! pages of UKboathire.com ;) and am planniing my canal boat holiday! to go with my Mountains of Britain holiday! Honestly. I am going next year, maybe march as I have not been back since 1979! where on earth did those years go! Griff's relationship with Cadbury is so lovely, I would watch the program just to see them together! What a man!! and a fantastic dog, I am in love!! We lived on a canal in Brentford when I was a child. supposedly where Caesar crossed the Thames, but who would know, there is a stone marking the spot. I'm almost tempted to move back..... I KNOW the dogs would love it, no snakes etc. Dream on....

FW: 2 DALMATIANS TO A GOOD HOME !!!!! 2 attachments | Download all attachments (19.8 KB) image001.jpg (10.3 KB), image002.jpg (9.5 KB) Hi Deb Just wondering if this is something you’d be interested in? WANTED: A good home for my much loved Dalmatians. I am moving overseas for work and I am needing to re-home my 2 Fur-Kids !!! This is their story..... Xena 5 yrs, de-sexed, micro-chipped, fully vaccinated. Pure Bred She is very loving and loyal, doesn't bark and has a wonderful temperament and comes when called.Good on the lead. Archie 4 yrs, de-sexed, micro chipped, full vaccinated. Pure Bred He is obedient having done guard dog training. Barks for attention but is a big lanky softy and very loyal. Good on the lead. Xena and Archie need to re-homed together because they are best friends and pine without each other. They love playing down at the Dog Park or beach and love nothing more than a paddle. Both are very sociable and interact well with other dogs and kids. Would suit a family with a big yard because they just run and chase each other all day and contrary to popular belief, two dogs are easier than one......and they both Smile ! :-) I need to re-house them ASAP because I am due to move at the end of April If you can help or have any questions please call me on 0435 659 306....Please feel free to forward on ! Thanks Rich PS: I'malso open to the idea of someone looking after them for 1-3 years and I will pay all associated costs if I can have them back when I get home......

has anyone been watching Rivers on ABC Tuesdays at 8.30pm? It is wonderful, about rivers in UK, fantastic scenery etc. and wonderful program. Griff Rhys Jones, who also did the mountains of Britain program. Anyway, he takes Cadbury, his choc lab EVERYWHERE.What a wonderful old boy that dog is. He is in taxis, buildings, boats, bussses, trains, walking trails etc. off lead and on and is just amazing. Lovely to see, and Griff is so lovely with him, easy and loving. I just adore seeing such a lovely positive dog owner experience. It is not the focus of the program at all, but really adds to the charm and joy. I'm not a lab enthusiast, but for all lab owners and lovers on Dol, you really do have to see this show :D xxx

Yes I did and wass very impressed with her. She kept cool, concise, and did not enter into the hysterics even when pushed. When asked about labradors biting etc and if they could ever attack like this dog had, she said the worse attack she had ever seen in USA was by a lab. She was very ethical and did not enter into any breed bashing at all and said ANY dog is capable and refused to be drawn on the breed of dog being some sort of reason. Thank goodness, first time I've seen such a great initerview. Was a very handsome dog. Poor woman, what a shock, something triggered it, God knows what.

If you go board them in separate enclosures. IF Jenna hides from the other dog sometimes, she will have 3 days of it and may not eat etc. in the same pen and this could set up behaviour probs between them. You may not be able to find boarding for easter at this late date anyway. I also wouldn't have someone popping in to feed etc. unless they can 'live in'. It's just a little early re the interdog relationship etc. IMO If it were me, I wouldn't go. I dont think not going is treating her like she has issues, how would she even know you are not going or have a choice? We have taken our dogs all over the country camping , caravaning, without any problems, in fact, it is GREAT FUN :D

OK, I'm going for my first ever aldi visit!!!! THANKS

a nightmare. just be thankful you do not have children. with 2 such differing attitudes, that would be a REAL disaster.

well there won't be any left on Fraser Island soon. as a country we should be very ashamed. its a disgrace and very upsetting how they are being comletely mismanaged. truly beautiful animals.
