I suspect that too!!! My lakelands never dug holes, or even chewed anything They were my 'happy chappies', always great fun, definately NOT food motivated either, in fact, they would leave food and the cats and visiting dogs would eat it with no issues from the terriers!! They were fantastic with all other animals and I have a funny photo that I will have to scan of my Lakeland Basil with a leg of lamb bone, we had just got another devon kitten, and Basil moved aside to let the kitten have the bone Dont freak, it was completely safe, I would not have allowed it if otherwise. I'd love more one day, there are some lovely ones in QLD! I got my first Lakeland in 1993. wonderful dogs

It Might Be Time To Make The Hardest Decision... :(
Monah replied to hortfurball's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am terribly terribly sorry. Poor old Kuges. So sad. We have our vet come to the house (we have had 4 oldies pts. in 4 years ) and have had the pet on my lap on the floor on their fav blankie and all surrounded them and talked to them about how good they are, gorgeous etc. all their favourite words. We have not had other animals there at the time. They are in another room. I honestly don't know what is the best thing to do, I think we do what 'feels' right to us and you know your pets best and how they will cope in certain situations. I really am so sorry, It's a very very sad time and will be awfully hard for you all. Lots of love and hugs to the beautiful Kuges, you have been so blessed to spend so many wonderful years with each other. xxxxxxxxxxx -
They are fantastic photos!! Are you saying the HORSE is now 42 Handsome, the rider is too the dogs are having so much fun. I'm politically incorrect because I um, like foxes so don't kill me!! But I LOVE the hounds, and the whole hunt thing (esp it they are not really hunting! ) I really would enjoy seeing any others you have, heaps of dogs would be great!! And I think you are terribly lucky too

I''ve had patterdales and Lakelands, both marvellous in every way, clever, loving, cuddly, very very easy care, healthy, comical, great fun, fantastic kids dogs and 'watch' dogs. I adore terriers I also had a little min foxie who belonged to a neighbour, she (tammy) spent every day with me as a child, we bonded big time and I have wonderful memories of our times together, plenty of pics too, she would sit on the swing with me!!! see saw!! did everything together. Um, they can all be a little stubborn

Sadly Monah, I have two of those three - Bracco and PWD. ;) If Troy permits a dog related classies in General, I'll advertise a heap but will give you first dibs on those if you like. sorry to invade this topic, but PF, I'd love them.!!!! PM and I'll fix you up!!! :p

No their height range is not near wolfhounds and danes. Wolfhounds and danes are all tall and consistant, just some are REALLY tall  That white tall dane looks awful no substance at all, poor thing.

I really should offload some of the books I accumulated tyre kicking. Have got The Complete Standard Poodle for one! Great book! Me me! and, have you got Bracco Italiano, English foxhound or Portugese water dog?? seeing as I have been kicking this lot for several years maybe I should get some books ;) I'm always upfront, and I've never looked at pups or rung about pups. but I have visited and asked re breeds. many times! Poor Bracco breeder..............

The story was awful I was very upset. Esp as the owner of the attacking dogs did not who any remorse for his actions. 5 dear little dogs the owner of them was trembling and still upset and he will never get over it (he said). Erny, I understand the cat thing, I guess they do not get in the media that much as it is not sensationall although I have seen plenty of stories of 'neighbours' complaining about cats. As an owner of 4 strictly indoor cats and a birdlover/wildlife carer I can say I do get lots of very negative and horrible things said about cats (to me). And as a cat lover (and dog lover) i get tired of so much negativity about cats and the damage they do (and I admit a roaming cat is damaging) when so many dogs do worse incl stock kills etc., penguin colonys, possums, koalas and so on. These kills are rarely in the media either. So in that way it works both ways. I'm sure if a cat killed or harmed someones dogs, children, chooks, rabbits etc. they would be on the front page.(so to speak) I guess little dogs can look like prey to other dogs, and I can see how a tiny dog could be attacked at off lead places as 'prey' by another dog. I don't understand what drove these dogs half a kilometer to kill 5 little dogs in their own garden. Awful. Cant believe this f wit STILL has broken fencing ;)

What Don't Most People Know About Your Breed?
Monah replied to RallyValley's topic in General Dog Discussion
I dont get many questions as we are in a small town and well known so I dont really know about some misconceptions. A few I've had have been: No, it's a vizsla not a ridgeback (they are nothing like ridgies??) I don't think many people actually understand the 'velcro' dog thing. Yes, i'm sure all your dogs are loving, affectionate etc. but OMG!! vizss have this nickname for a reason and believe me!!!!! you may think you have a 'velcro' dog, but YOU DON"T cant explain it, you have to experience it! No, that's a spinone, not a cross blah blah blah. Yes she may look like a dumb blonde, but she is incredibly smart! No it's not a NEW breed, it's an ancient breed. Used to get the cross thing with my wolfhounds and giant schnauzers. With ACDs everyone was scared of them?? and they were the biggest sooks ever! My Lakelands were always mistaken for POODLES as were the Irish water spaniel. -
Irish Wolfhounds are generally called the biggest dogs. We had one male who was 36" at the shoulder Not sure if they would be the heaviest though, I'm guessing?? newfies/englishmastiffs/pyrenean mountain dogs etc.?? I'm sure some dogs of other breeds can be heavier taller etc., but in general, wolfies are the largest.

Why would I be looking for an argument, cvs? not at all in fact. I thought that if all the kids were present when meeting the pup, that the boy with asthma would have reacted after a short while ;) Negative. some things can take ages to show up. anyone with a child with asthma is always aware and careful of triggers, it is a frightening 'disease'. many triggers are not obvious.

;) Ha, well, guess whose foxhounds I was talking about!!!! Yours of course. I adore them and am very impressed with them, as you can tell!!! I think I may have said hi to Nettle in the trailer? and the litter mates?? I think they are, that you and your sister have, are just wonderful. I will be keeping my eyes well and truly open to see how all the FHs get on etc. with a real view to the future I might turn up as 'competition' one day! Funnily enough I also have Manchesters on my to do list!!

My son has asthma and has 'died' several times before his 5th birthday and only been revived with adrenalin injections. THank goodness these days he is great ;) We have always had many dogs and cats and they have slept with him. He was allergic to cold air!!!! which is why we moved to QLD and he has never had an attack since. Maybe you need to brush up on asthma. italmum, I'm devastated for you and your family, I know how much you were looking forward to sharing your lives with Ollie. I'm very very sorry. Hopefully you may be able to find a pet that does not spark off your son's allergies. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you all.xxxxxxx

Dust angel, you lucky lucky lucky duck!!! I envy you. wonderful!! dyzney, a PM would be great. I'd love to 'visit' some eventually on their own turf to check them out. My girlchild had a lot to do with a pack in Oxford as she was friends with a gamekeeper at a manor. She thought they were wonderful. I was very jealous ;) xxx

Yes, it's the temperament that has me interested. I've met several at shows and they have all been really friendly and cuddly and so sweet, and, great with other dogs, really great. And , I love the look of them too. I've had sight hounds and they (mine) were also WIFM ;) which is why I'm always amazed at how EASY the viz is I'm thinking of an awful lot later on, and looked in the 101 breeds and couldn't see them, so thought I'd put it out there! All info greatly appreciated!!

Yet Another What Breed Thread...

Did I mention mini poodle?? still think this is a great match for your family. I'm sure they are more intelligent than BCs :D (I have a BC so I can say that!1) If you were thinking about terriers, I'd suggest Lakelands ;) , but IMO terriers, although incredibly clever and marvellous dogs are not what I'd call 'easy' to train. Poodles are just so smart! Honestly wonderful dogs. I"d also suggest Italian Spinone, but they are big and love the mud! apart from that, the best temperament ever!! thoroughly trustworthy, and I'm pretty sure they are the only breed to have never recorded a bite etc. and not anywhere near as boisterous as other gundogs. Slow and steady My kids learnt to walk by hanging onto our wolfhounds fur.!! and they were incredibly gentle doggies. But not in your size range. IMO a 'good' poodle would be fantastic and meet all your requirements, plus, they are soooooooooooo pretty/handsome!! PS. I don't think poodles are 'lap dogs', they have energy to burn. -

VA, i adore small breeds (and large ;) ). There is a GORGEOUS 18 month old female poodle, very sweet, mini, in the RESCUE purebreds on the DOL home page I know you are not in a hurry, but she is worth a little look. ;) Lovely little girl. ;)
