Hi Neats There's a working dog rescue in QLD with zillions of dogs I know they always have dogs in the classifieds in the Courier Mail every Saturday. xxx

as I dont live in Vic. I dont know a specific place, however here you can get metal cage muzzles in all produce/farm stock stores as they are used for farm dogs so they do not nip stock. xxx

everything ellz has posted I've found the same. I've flown animals from melb, bris, adel, and darwin and never found it any different. Always with qantas. aussie airfreight can be a rip off and I found that even though flying WITH the animals, I was better off booking through dogtainers, even though all animals leave from airfreight depot (where I dropped them, I did not have to go to dogtainers) When leaving darwin I made a huge fuss about them not being on tarmac etc., I would be watching (they went with son) and all hell would break lose if I saw them left anywhere. It was very hot, november. The cost of an animal travelling with a person is an awful lot less than the animal travelling alone, but of course then you have to buy your own ticket.

Anyone Else Setting Up A Stand At The Dogs Sa Open Day?
Monah replied to GSD FAN's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm coming down in september, when is the open day and where??xxx -
No off leash parks for me. I did try one in Darwin and it was great. about 10 acres or even more!!! Marlows lagoon. lovely lagoon to swim, whole area fenced and agility equipment, and drinking water. I went during the day when no one else was there and it was wonderful. We have none here anyway. I take mine to the softball fields in the next street where the main issue is many roos and hares and ducks! but as long as we go well before dusk there is not a problem. I wont even go to the beach when the tide is in. Lots of dogs and no beach Personally I dont like the whole idea of a dog park. My girls have good recall, the viz has never ever let me down, the spin has about twice when I have not called her before the preydrive has kicked in. I dont allow her off unless we are somewhere she cannot get away, or if I have another person with me, then one will walk a few hundred yards behind the other, dogs in the middle. When I cant get to an offlead area for any reason, the girls go bikeriding and love it. (or even swimming) I find a 30 min swim or even just a 20 min bike ride leaves them exhausted.

Oh dear!! Poor Riley. Poor you!xxx My two are desexed females. One will try and hump the other occassionally. She gets NO! and stops. She is bossy and the other is very soft, so I dont allow it, give bossy boots and inch and she will take advantage of it. I do not want her to ever try it on someone else either, or she may get a BIG shock when the dog retaliates I've never had any other dogs who hump.

Gilly sounds just like my spin!!! -
We haved caravaned all over QLD, up to Darwin , and back, with 2 dogs and 4 cats I LOVE it. The animals need to be IN the car, caravans can be a bit rolly with travelling, and hot etc. We have not had any problems with ours at all, although in cold weather, the caravan bed gets a little cramped with 2 biggish dogs and 2 humans! Our caravan was old and no annex and we hope to get a good one next year. Getting a cheap one was great as we had not done it before and before spending a lot of money, wanted to see how we got on. Dogs LOVED it too There is a good book, Holidaying With Dogs. We used this and did not book anything as we had no schedule, but when we would see where we'd be that evening, we would ring ahead to book. We had priorities of course, first was dog friendly, then power, then position of park. the Daly Waters park in NT is really terrific, so is the one on the barkley highway , in fact, we did not have a single bad experience.xxx

Oh, a Rottie ;) . I thought it was a horse Horse or Hippo?? ;) OMG! how much rolling did it take to get that dusty! I love the spin to bits, but it seems to be a breed trait that they really LOVE mud, she gets like this in our garden(2 acres) andd if we are out and she is offlead, she WILL find any puddle, lagoon, anything! I have to throw her in the pool, thank goodness for the pool, she loves to swim. Monah is much more civillised and will only get dirty rarely, only if it's hot, and only if the spin looks like she's having too much fun Being houseproud is definatley in the past!!! -

Help With Breed Selection (formerly: Gsp Vs. English Pointer)
Monah replied to Joel's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lovely Ashanali!!! Just have to say, the other great undiscovered breed is the Italian Spinone -
I'd love to see some photos!! LOVE bloodhounds. I wanted one years ago, visited a breeder, and was met at the gate by heaps of dogs BIG dogs. hillarious, very friendly, lovely. OH freaked out about the drool so that was that, but I'm still keen OH has mellowed with time! Huski, yes, some labs are the same. owners aren't 'bad' I think they just dont understand that some other dogs may not appreciate the exuberance. I will also mention that I have met 2 incredibly lovely mannered sweet beagles too. Our Ranger mascot in HErvey Bay is a beagle and lovely.

I dont know much about this at all and this thread is so interesting With dogs I've had myself, I've found sighthounds incredibly good running together or with other breeds. But I've only had wolfhounds. The only dog I have had that I'd say would not be a good 'run together' dog is one that technically should be and she is great with dogs she knows, but nervy with others and prefers to ignore them. I realise sled dogs are bred to run as a pack, but I have read (book freak) and also through a friend who sleds in canada and is part of a club, that packs can often have shocking scraps between themselves, no idea on reasons behind it though. The lakelands I had were so great with all dogs that they would even walk away from a meal to allow whoever to have it As far as knowing what you dog was bred for, the reason a 'normal' lakeland is better at running with a group than some other terriers is that they usually hunted with foxhounds in groups. mine lived with several dogs. all my dogs have been great with each other inc. spinone, ACD, giant schnauzers, goldies, swf, irish water spaniel. BCx, The only one that was really fiesty, was the Patterdale I grew up with although with humans he was amazing. I'm really keen on foxhounds and hope to get one sometime in the future. How do Bloodhounds go Kelpiehound?another fav breed! Im afraid I've met some rude beagles too, but I wonder if it is because some people are attracted to them as an easy friendly dog, and dont think they need manner training as their dog is friendly.

so sad, poor doggie. Kids will grieve , very deeply and can do so even at a very young age. I started the process at 4 years of age, and have been devastated every single time, which is why I always have several pets. Losing the ONE, who you love so much, is awful Seeing as I have had several pets at a time, my kids were always helped by the other pets when one passed. ie. talked to them, hugs, love etc. A missing pet is as bad as it can get. I agree with everyone who said to have a talk about feelings of disloyalty etc., maybe hoe their lost pet would not want them to be so sad and understand them having another pet as that does not mean they love their dog any less. give them permission to grieve and affirmation. I think you are already doing this. I may be right off track iin your case, but from my experience it does help to have another pet, one that needs a home etc. may be the answer to help with any 'guilt' feelings as they are helping save another dog. They may be focussing so much on missing their dog who they love so much because there is not a distraction and this may mean the more this goes on, the worse it gets. THe kids sound very grown up, sometimes at that age it is better to take the reins and not discuss things so much, so they dont have such a lot of responsibility with the decision. IE. mum and dad want another dog, we all love our dog and want it to return and this wont change by having another dog. You could use them as an analogy like, well I love 'first child' and having 'second child' did not change that etc. or some other way. sorry, I havent had small children for a few years, although do work with them. Such a difficult situation. get themn out meeting and greeting other dogs in all sorts of situations, maybe show, and yes doggy sports and rescue organisations. THey sound very empathetic and lovely so saving a dog (the right dog for you) may be very appealing, as long as they know that if their dog returns it would love to have a new friend and be happy that they are happy. Personally, I think they will find it very hard to move on at all if they do not have someone to lavish all that love on.xxxx

Hope you are getting better that must have been a monumental decision. Awful awful thing to go through.xxxxxx

Oh, Of course, silly me! hope to see you then!xxx
