Relief!! :D xxxx

This has probably been checked, but brain tumour, diabetes, and other things also come to mind. If you choose a chiro, could be best to only use a vet/chiro, I prefer physios as these have to have 7 years human physio and also several years studying to be an animal physio..Best to check out all possiblities first though. Good luck. xxx

Why Do Sighthounds Tend To Be Timid/sensitive?
Monah replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sighthounds I've had have never been shy or timid..but they have not been interested in other humans or dogs most of the time, so appear to be snobs! we've had them allow people IN, but not OUT, and I remember asking a neighbour, very well known to the dogs, to let them out while I was out for the day, and coming home at 6pm to find him trapped in the house! plus, they did not go out for wees 'cause they would not go with him! wolfies can be embarrassing though, any amount of Ooohs and aahhhs and chatting them up leaves them mostly cold and aloof I've had the same happen to me when I've been 'all over' deeries I've met and they've turned and looked the other way!.. I adore sighthounds. -
Oh poor Earl, lovely boy. Sending lots of love to you all. xxx strangely enough we had a very similar thing recently with our viz. She acted strangely and I thought OMG..bloat. took her straight to the vet, late on a friday night and they did tests etc., xrays showed an obstruction, when they went in (as in surgery, she was opened from arthur to martha!) they found a very strange twisted load of vessels near her liver..no reason at all, no idea why or how, or how to stop this from reoccurring.. something to do with the lining of the organs twisting and obstucting the liver... it was touch and go for a few days, I feel so badly for you, it's very frightening.. He is such a big strong boy and greatly adored and I'm sure he will pull through without any problems. My girls send big sloppy girly licks and kisses and get well soon wishes.. So much for lowering stress levels and blood pressure! DOGS!!

Lovely photos. Very very gorgeous lakies!! All lovely. Lakies, the one on the right in the basket looks like a clone of mine! I may have to dognap.....

Devon, I've got 2 but have had many since the 70's. xxx I see a few kerries here at shows. gorgeous..had to laugh at the last one, a male spent the whole time growling at his owner while she tried to 'do' his beard! she took no notice of him....anyway, he ended up winning! stunning little strut he had! Kerries are a lot larger than lakies etc. would have loved to have seen those terriers at the perth royal!

I use photobucket too.. I adore Welshies, Irish and Airedales, and foxies.. I dont know much about other terriers, but often a distinguishing difference in some areas is that lakelands appear to get on well with other dogs and animals, unlike some terriers (although I've not seen any terrier issues myself in any dogs). Lakelands often worked with foxhounds so were bred to be in pack situations which may have helped with their sociability. THey are a little smaller than welshies and come in several coat colours. They are intelligent and love to do do do and go go go They have a reputation for being cheerful little dogs and they really are! Happy happy happy chappies. I'm pretty sure that lakelands and welshies are related way back.

Awwww...gorgeous!! any more pics??? Lakelands are not cuddly lap dogs.. They are cuddly when they want to be though and like most breeds LOVE to be with their families every minute. Very bouncy and always ready for fun fun fun... I think they are great dogs, esp. for those who would like a non shedder, smaller dog, who is also robust and a terrific family/kids dog. Ours was also fiesty when required...a great watch dog. We used to babysit several too and all were terrific at getting on with all and sundry. They can have a mind of their own.. ;) as they are a terrier, but ours was very good IMO. I'd love to try agility etc. later on with another lakeland. I've seen the most gorgeous little girl at shows in QLD..would love to grab her and take off... I guess all breeds can have some that are different to others. Basil was outgoing, confident, little *()*(^&%^$% head sometimes . I can't think of any negative traits, Very very zippy!! :D

Desperate to see more photos..I missed this, thankyou Amypie!! :D Gorgeous stunning pup! Lucky you!

Where are the puppy pics!! They are lovely, I love the Manchesters as well, but because Basil was so terrific I'm very partial to Lakelands...AND I had to wait over 2 years for him at the time, so lucky for him he WAS so special!
-
They are wonderful, I'll definitely have more, wonderful breed :D He was amazing with the kids too, terrific fun. Awful how much you can miss the little devils..
-
This is one of my favourites, the cat was and still is the boss! Basil shared everything... He looks like a toy! with our 'rescue' stray, Fawlty..

I've been scanning photos regularly and got to some of my Lakeland Terrier, Basil Brush.. On reading the topic about someone buying a fox terrier x poodle, I thought, I wonder if people realise that Lakelands are such terrific little dogs. I feel they are often overlooked (like many breeds are that are a little unknown in Aust.). So as I miss my happy chappy every single day, and the cat he is with is now 18, I'm feeling a bit nostalgic and thought I'd share a few pics (for my own indulgence ) sorry about the dodgy quality

Hi tlc, how awful. as a general rule, ball playing should be completely stopped, probably forever, or any jumping activity. Smaller dogs are very succeptable to these injuries, they can even be permanent or fatal. Their discs are physiologically different to larger dogs (who also have a different set of problems). If you go down the chiro route, only a vet/chiro would be OK. There is no regulation on people calling themselves an animal chiro..I even know a butcher who is one..he thinks as he was a butcher that he knows animal physiology..and gets paid a LOT more than he ever did in his real trade. I have a website that may be helpful (or may not ) it's www.holisticanimalphysio.com.au Very glad lovely Tully is now fine :D

Agree with Huski/Pers/Parkeye/Kavik and similar comments. I have a non dominant dog who is a resource guarder around other dogs (and sometimes cats!)She is a sweetheart, loving etc. the rest of the time.. we don't allow the situation to ever get to that stage. I stopped bones and all raw meat (very high value) feeding for about a year, for everyone. Very slowly introduced bones again with dogs in separate rooms, or, tied up in the garden at other ends. I always wash down the area and make sure I pick all the bits up. The situation is managed here very well and we have only had one incident in 6 years, and that was when I changed the way of doing things. It has never escalated because the dog has never had the opportunity. Humans can take anything off this dog, but I don't like the 'game' of taking food etc. for the reasons Huski mentioned. I do touch her bone and say what a lovely bone you have etc...I wold not do this if I thought she may launch or her body language was 'off'. We do TOT every meal and have taken things very slowly over the years. Our resource guarder has improved incredibly, but I would never trust her or feed her with anyone else. If kids are around, that's even more reason to be extra vigilant, no bone is worth a ripped up dog or bitten child.

Second Jane. we travelled over 3 hours to see her, she is wonderful, lovely person. worth the trip. :D

My girlchild used to do the same, not vomit though, I would hear the crunching and say SPIT IT OUT!

Adonis lives up to his name! Too lovely, so is Oberon!! Do you ever show in Maryborough? I'll be stalking you as well...

Great idea!! Mine LOVE the pool and go in every day..well, the viz is a bit more fussy than the spin as she gets cold.. The spin would swim in ice! Both have at least an hour per day in the pool and will miss it when we don't have one. The word SWIM gets much more of an excited reaction than WALK...Last Christmas we had dogs, kids, adults...all playing in the pool these 2 are our goldies in the 70's..

No no no... I have never added a pet to the family with colour in mind. Vizssss only come in one colour

Semaphore Beach Walk - Sat 24th Sept - 8.30
Monah replied to MsKatie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm hoping to move to Semaphore (just have to sell this!), is it good for dogs? We used to live at West beach, but that was nearly 18 years ago
