I am so sorry sweety, at least you are happy now

I looked at that thread just after I started this one. I know something needs to be done, if I can see the warning signs and DONT do anything and something happens I would never forgive myself and anything that does happen will be purely my fault. I just hope the vets can find something treatable

I just talked this through with OH and the vet, Hope I am making the right decisions here, I am pulling her out of class until after the vet has given us the ok but still doing the training we would be doing in class at home (I think that makes sense) and walking her is going to have to be late at night and early in the morning as there are quite a few kids in the area and cats. The vet is going to do a full health check on her, bloods etc, hopefully she wont need to be sedated he said but if she does he will assess her first as to see if she can cope with it. I do trust this vet, he knows what he is doing. I just dont know how I will go if he says she needs to be PTS but at the same time Patrick has to come first I am sorry if this post is all rambled, I am just trying to get everything straight in my head as to what needs to be done and what our options are but its not working too well

I was thinking vet as well, the only thing that has thrown me is she is perfectly healthy, hasnt changed eating, doesnt seem stiff or anything so I kind of forgot going that avenue

I know I cant fix it on my own, The people that run training can also come out to your house to help with behavioural issues. I have spoken to them before about it and just wanted some others opinions cf

Have a massive problem with my 7 yr old bitsa Lucky. She used to be only aggressive to staffies so I have been taking her to training to correct it and it depends on the day as to which dog she doesn’t like. Her aggression has gotten 100 times worse. She used to be fine with the cats now she tries to snap at them and snarls. I only allow her with Edward under strict supervision, as I don’t know what she is going to be like from one minute to the next. The biggest problem with her is she keeps snarling at my almost 1 yr old when he is crawling around the lounge. Now he doesn’t have to be near her, he can be over the other side of the room. She has NEVER had a bad experience with a child. My boys are gentle with her and she never showed any aggression with my 2 yr old. She fixates on Patrick (the younger of the two) and growls. I reprimand her as soon as she shows any sign of aggression but she will just constantly do it. It has only really increased in the last month. She is due to go up to the next grade in training in the next 2 weeks but I am thinking of holding her back as it is off lead and I honestly don’t trust her not to go another dog. She just missed biting me a week ago, first time she has ever tried it and if I hadn’t moved quickly she would have gotten me. I have never had a dog that had shown aggression to me so I am in new territory here. She is good about 90% of the time, behaves perfectly but she just seems to snap with no warning or reason What would you do in this situation?

I have a 6/7 year old that has only been introduced to it in the last 6 months. She took to it really well and loves it

I am going to ring his breeder first, OH just pointed out to me it seems to happen when he is going through a growth spurt and you can see that his face is changing so I want to check with her first, other than that it will be a vet trip as it scared the hell out of me, he is fine though He only ever does it whilst or directly after eating. I can think where he would have picked up kennel cough Dru, I hadnt heard of that one. The vet I use is used to the giant breeds so he should know though thanks Lauren

He is a Newfoundland, I was thinking vet, just wasnt sure if it was a normal thing or illness

Edward has been doing gagging like he has a furball stuck after he eats, like he is choking but he can still breathe. He isnt eating very fast anymore and has plenty of fresh water but sometimes he will cough up a little food or gag like he is going to throw up. His food is not elevated, would putting it up higher help? I have seperated his meals into 4 tiny portions to make sure he doesnt scoff but other than that I am out of ideas any ideas please thanks Lauren

Ppcollar (aka Prong) - 2008 Regulation Review - Outcome
taffy replied to Erny's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Actually andy I put the prong collar on my leg first, if it hurt me it wasnt going on my dog. They dont hurt, they just apply pressure in points whereas the traditional choke collars apply the pressure constantly around the neck. These got caught in my dogs fur constantly which was cruel for her and made training impossible. The prong collar has just changed her state of mind towards training, she is definately not fearful of it, infact she gets all excited, if it hurt her she would shy away from it. They are not for every dog but they have their uses, they are a hell of a lot nicer than for example someone cant train their dog, prong collars are banned, they end up giving up and surrendering the dog, dog gets PTS because its uncontrollable. I'd take the prong collar any day -
Hi this saturday I bring home my new pup, my mum is looking after the kids for me so that makes it a little easier but I am unsure on how to best introduce the two of them to get them off to the best start. We have 2 crates (one where lucky sleeps and one for the pup) and OH came up with introducing them in the crates (Lucky in hers then bringing the pup into his) so they can get used to each other being there before coming completely face to face. Should this work or is there a better way that anyone knows of? Lucky is fine with other dogs unless its a small fluffy dog that rushs to a fence and barks at her so Im not too worried about her getting snotty but I would like to make the transition from one to two dogs as easy as possible for her. Thanks Lauren

Ok, thats wierd, I responded to this about an hour ago and its disappeared Oh well its possible I just imagined it. She isnt fed chum anymore, just when she was that was all she would eat ;) now that was bad I make all her treats at home, I would love to go 100% homemade barf but I am a little paranoid about getting the additives right MLH I had to check at training, I thought she had forgotten she doesnt poop inside

Thanks TB Rocky is truly my brothers heartdog and a second father to my nephew, once my exsil thought that my nephew was asleep and someone had left both the backdoor and rollerdoor open (I think nephew was just over 3 at this point). He got himself out of bed, out of the house and down the road, the dog followed, he would have been a block away (thankgod he didnt cross any roads) and these people in a car stopped to check on him. Rock wouldnt let them closer than 1 meter to him and herded him home. Scared the living crap out of my brother who had just got home and saw his 3 yr old and his dog walking up the street followed at a distance by 3 strangers He is one dog that I (almost) implicitly trust with my kids, I just cant believe after 5 today he isnt going to be here I have offered to go with him to the vets so my brother isnt alone afterwards but he isnt sure yet. I dont know how to help him, not used to seeing him in tears (from memory this would be the 2nd time I have ever seen him cry)
-
Tomorrow my brother has to do the hardest thing, he has to take his 14 yr old staffy Rocky to the vets to be PTS. I am in tears as I write this as he is one of the best dogs I have ever met, he was even giving my 2 year old kisses when we went over tonight to say goodbye He has cancer and unfortunately my brother has no choice, his 7 yr old son came over to say goodbye as well. I hate seeing both of them so devastated and not being able to do anything Goodbye old man, you will definately be missed and remembered
-
Yeah she is both picky and easily puts on weight, she will decide suddenly that she doesnt like a food, then when you find the one that she will eat she stacks on the weight even though she is on 3/4 of the reccomended amount, well that was before raw so now she only gets about 1 cup of kibble and the rest raw. Better for her and cheaper for me (not that I really care, just means more toys for her ) I can never get OH to feed her the kibble though, he forgets and gives her way to much
-
hmm gas masks for everyone at training could work. She stunk out a couple of us last week
-
I know the chum was awful but she flatly refused everything else. It was all i could do to get her to eat What is nutrience like for keeping them lean? if I get my newf thats what he will be on but the puppy version. the supercoat doesnt seem to fill her up either but she is a little too chunky for my liking thanks
-
well you may not want to be confronted constantly but you are going to be, I suggest you get used to it :D
