  1. I have a 12 month old Newf going through the same thing, we have put it down to a dietary allergy, he was on pro plan puppy and large breed dry food, with minced beef or chicken and bones when the itching first started. I then changed him to straight BARF diet and it got worse. I now feed EaglePack Holistic anchovy and salmon based dry with a little duck and vege mince and in days he stopped scratching and his coat looks much healthier...........and he loves it!!!! The vet suggested that the beef and/or chicken are the problem, wheat can be a common allergen too. The Eagle pack has no beef or wheat and is fine.
  2. Turtle is a cutie Keep him on the lean side until around 12 months. Extra weight on the growing joints can cause problems so dont be tempted to let him be a cute rolly polly puppy. He looks fine in the photo, and 25kg is a reasonable weight for 17 weeks old, from memory it would right on average for a Newf boy give or take a bit, depending on bone etc.. When those legs start to get longer and that little body seems to start getting longer, they do tend to look a bit on the thin side. What and how much are you feeding?? My new Newf baby comes home this week!!!!!!!!!!
  3. purple spray (cant think of the name...) when the spot first appears and if it still appears wet then Curash Lots of blow drying Curash is really good and drys it out Hots spots are pretty bad here in QLD at the moment
  4. Lucky you!! My quote was exactly what they said it would be. I really hate it when they say oh that will be $xxx and it ends up $$$$$XXXXXXXXXXXX so I was happy to pay the quoted amount.
  5. Richard Mitchell on the sunshine coast!!!! Richard is wonderful, I have used him and know many others that have had great success with his work. Definately worth the drive. I was sitting at the dog physio about 3 months after my dogs op and Richard called me just to see how things were progressing. Great follow up! Richard used an arthroscopic camera when doing the surgery and I got to watch the opperation afterwards.
  6. We have been through the OCD trauma. We had the op done on a very big pup at 5 months 35kg . I took the pup to a specialist on the Sunshine Coast QLD and had the op done by arthroscope . This was so much better that a full open shoulder op as way less trauma to the muscle and tissues. Recovery was slow in such as growth spirts would still create pain and limpping. We were advised to put the pup on adult food and keep all weight off him till at least 9 months and restrict excersise and rough play. He was crated for 2 months after the op with only short toilet walks then the excersise slowly increases. I use Joint Forte, a human suppliment made by Wagners,it contains high doses of condrilcin, glucosomine and MSN. This is definately helping, along with Ester C, a non acidic vitamin C. This stuff is great! I hope that it is not an OCD and your pup is fine.
  7. Where do you get them in Brissy!! I want to know as well! Thanks for that, not too far away. i have never been over there but must make a trip next weekend!!!

  11. Currently he is on 15 mg morning and night, he is 45kg and is actually kept slightly under weight as they growing very fast and this can effect joints, he is just 6 months old. I spoke to a canine physio/vet specialist and she said that this was a great combination for a big dog.
  12. I currently use the tablets of Ester C, $10 per 60 tablets at the chemist. 675mg tablet
  13. I use Joint Forte power from Wagner. It is a human one and has very high levels of glucosomin,2000 mg chondroltin 500mg and MSN 2000mg. Also Vitiamin C ,Zinc Manganeese, copper Bornon and Bioflavins (per 30 grms). This is about $34 for 500 grams or $60 per Kg at the discount chemists. It is the best value I have found as you need to give less due to the high level of ingredients and as a poweder easy to put in the food.
  14. You may want to have a read of this.. http://www.workingdogs.com/doc0039.htm anything is worth a try, I use ester C
  15. :D :p ;) How do I explain to my work mate why I am sitting here laughing my head off!!!
  16. Yes swimmimg!! I swim my Newfoundlands and they love it now, I bought a doggy life jacket to make them feel more bouyant and confident
  17. I also use Glucosomine with Chrondroitin and MSN another great aditive for joints and repair is Ester C. This is non acid vitamin C so is gentle on the tummy. I also take all these myself for a neck injury (my OH thinks it is funny that I take the same stuff as the dogs LOL)and I can swear it makes a difference.
  18. Sorry to hear about your boy. I would also have his elbows and shoulders checked for OCD. This is often unilateral. Be sure to restrict his excercise, 30 mins is a long time...and add Ester C to his food along with glocosomine with condrolcin (SP). this will help his joints and cartlidge repair and grow.
