  1. Look at the Portugese Water Dog,great temperament and activity level is medium, non shedding, can be in different clips , curly or wave coat, vert trainable and a great scence of humour. Love people and very loyal to their primary owner.
  2. Chinese crested! Active Fun loving, little or no grooming
  3. congtrats, may there be many moreto come!
  4. I am getting a chinese crested soon, cant wait for the Royal now!!!
  5. Love the story, be very :D proud
  6. But surely all that slobber would cool you down in the hot weather I do like the name Elwood Wasn't planning on showing him - going to obedience train him (apparently this will be an intersting task - oh well - never been one to turn down a challenge ) Elwood is a great name, congrats he is very cute
  7. Exercise is important, but don't over-do it. Not only will proper exercise provide Bella with an outlet for all of that energy, it helps her develop muscle tissue which supports those heavy bones. Taking your puppy on a very short walk in the cool of the day can also help to establish a bond between you and your pup, and will begin socializing Bella to familiarize her with different people, places and situations. As she is not fully vaccinated, you may want to avoid public places until all shots are complete. Games of fetch on a soft, non-slippery surface (carpet, grass) or practicing to walk on a leash around the house or backyard are great for now. I dont tend to walk the Newfy pups until they are about 4 months then just up the street and back. This is more about socialisation than excersise and also to excersise their brains.
  8. Can you please add me Opalbay, S Berry & R Fraser, newfoundlands & also Cornerbrook Newfoundlands ,A C Fraser is not listed
  9. Our pool is about 10m and I swim my Newfs for about 45min at a time. This is fast swimming, fetching a ball, out of the pool, dive in and fetch again. I stop after 45 mins but they would keep going if I let them
  10. A friend of mine suggested the Virgin coconut oil. They add cold pressed Flax oil, coconut oil and I think the third was cold pressed olive oil to their dogs feed and they have the best coats and no skin problems any more. I have considered trying it. Interesting
  11. The discount chemists, you can get tablets or powder. I have seen some remarkable diferences with it in dogs with HD and also very crooked frount legs, down in pastern etc.I would give 2000mgs a day, if the dog gets the runs drop it back a bit. Have a look at these links http://www.workingdogs.com/doc0039.htm http://www.yourdoghealth.com/dog_chondroitin.htm
  12. Sards wonder soap is great for removing red dirt, we have lots of red dirt and the sards works better than anything else I have tried.
  13. Hi Heidii, Line brushing is time consuming if you dont groom regularly. I know I have to do this with the Newfs to keep the coat in order, I line brush, and comb out three every week and before bathing, yes it can take time but hey I have a coated breed (just got a new Sheltie pup too,) and as Shelby said, bathing before you get the old coat out can mean it is harder to get it out later. Blowdrying first will help get a lot of it out, but this is not possible for you without a dryer at home so starting with an under coat rake like this.. http://www.dogessentials.com.au/dog-store-...productid=16680 you can get alot out first, take him off for his bath and dry then just get comfy on the floor with a movie (Lassie?) and take your time. and be gentle, rake the coat through again followed with the comb.you should find it a much easier job. Watering down some good conditioner or Plush Puppy OMG spray and spraying into the coat as you go can help wth untangleing coats. Cheers
  14. Plush Puppy Black Opal, but brown ends need trimming as sun damaged. The Copper pipe post is interesting, never heard that one?
  15. Eagle Pack large breed puppy or Pro Plan large breed puppy are the ones we use and many other breeders I know with large breeds use these too. Personally I prefer the EP. We switch to adultd food when pups are at about 20 weeks of age, Holistic EP or adult Pro Plan. The Royal Canine at 32% protien I would not use, you are wanting a lower protien and fat ratio. You do not want to put any access weight on a large breed pup. What breed?
  16. What about Advantix? I was told it is OK for shelties and collies ? It is not listed on the sites as one to not use but I am still concerned. What symptoms would you see if there was a reaction and in what time frame? Edit while getting packet..ingredients.Imiacloprid , permethrin, N-methylpyrrolidone... Advantage DUO was listed as an Ivimectin based one
  17. I have a 70+ KG Newfoundland that has only 1 tablet per day and this works well
  18. I feed Turkey necks , they are great, and also I give the newfs chicken wings frozen . This slows them down and gets them chewing them
  19. I have a dog that had OCD in the shoulder, had the surgery and still has problems and limps at times 12 months on . The human equivalent of Meticam is Mobic, way cheaper and the same meds, I have my boy on mobic as needed, it comes in 7.5 or 15mg capsules and he gets 2x 15mg per week every week and daily when he is bad, it helps. Fish oil, vitamin C (Ester C) and MSN, Crondoltin and glucosomine daily are also given as you are doing and I can certainly see a difference if he does not get his 'Extras" Have a chat to your GP about Mobic, my mums doctor gives it to her own dog and recomended it to her for her boxer who is 13. I take it myself for injuries I have from a car accident and find it is much better on the stomach than alot of anti inflamitories I have had to use over the last 6 years.
  20. What breed are you getting. Dont forget to post the baby photos! As for Advance, I dont know sorry I use Eagle pack large breed or Pro plan Large breed.
  21. I would wait untill he is 18 months and as Miranda said , take him to a vet that specialises in HD and Xrays. positioning is so very important to get a true result. Get him swiming as soon as you can to build the muscles. I know of a newfoundland who had hip xrays at 6 months and they looked dreadful. After lots of swimming and a repeat x ray at 2 years, his hips are excellent. This may be the a result of both swimming and growth/maturity but it was interesting to see the xray. If I did not know other wise I would not have said it was the same dog. Good luck. I hope he is fine, he is a real cutie.
  22. This thread has been an interesting read. Ricey, I am more than happy to be educated on all sides of the topic, what ever that may be, but as previously posted, your posts just seem full of anger and shouting. This puts me of wanting to see what you have to say. There is more than one side to this topic, so how about a pleasant discussion rather than an argument and personal attacks. Please add some links of you own, where we can find the scientificly proven information you are so pasionate about and I will read up. Education on the whole picture may influence peoples choices. Though the individual still has the right to his or her own opinion in the end.
