actually human insurance such as health,Life, trauma TPD and income protection are based on risk/cost basis. Males more expensive than females, smokers more than none, age, weight, health history and occupation effect the costs. I am not surprised this now in the pet industry. There have always been some pet insurance companies that charged loadings for breeds prone to certain health issues. Not a scam, Edit to add, they should be able to tell you at what ages they increase premiums and provide and indication of cost if your dog is 10 years old.

Ashka I am so sorry for your loss. An awful experience for you and Floyd. The senior nurse/manager from Beenleigh VH went to another surgery in town so I wonder if it is the one you liked from Anvet - her name is Rebecca and she calls a lot of people darl. Explains things very well, manages very well under crisis, very, very skilled. I was sad when she left BVH. Thanks,The Vet nurse is Kelly she was originlly ay Many Road Vet specialising in Reproduction with Christine Kidd, who are great but a bit of a trip for me now Kelly is closer. I have a bitch due for a surgical AI soon and Kelly will be doing it. I wish she was there when I went in with Floyd

I used to use Anvet for my animals other than my dogs and they have been great and I have changed back recently to ANVET due to there new better equipt practise and mainly as I have utmost faith in a particular senior vet nusre there, she is the best!. But I did have a not so great experience a few weeks back. I raced in with an emergency, my newfy had bloat, no one on the desk, no bell etc so I knocked on the door of a consult room and a vet opened the door (clipping nails of swf). I explained that it was an emergency and the dog was bloating, they said they would be with me shortly....... 30 mins later a nurse spoke to me in the waiting room checked his gums (white) and asked why I thought it was bloat, mmm it was soooo obvious, off she went and another 15 mins later the vet called us in. To end a sad situation my boy was PTS.. after needless time and suffering, maybe the outcome could have been different. I did not get any alone time with him either, vet sat there with the needle at ready and said "tell me when"!!!!! I am very upset by this but I will say this is a one off as I have had many good experiences at Anvet and will give them another chance but will discuss the situation when I am in next and am not overly emotional. RIP Floyd

Your pup is gorgeous! Best of luck with him, he looks like a lot of fun. I love the name. You should read the book The Art of Racing in the Rain. It is written from the point of view of a dog called Enzo. A great book.

My hubby builds dog trailers,to big motor homes, off raod vans etc. He built me the best trailer. As I have Newf I needed large berths and good insulation. Outside is fully fibrglass and looks a bit like a caravan style trailer.the internal walls and ceiling are insulated fiberglass, floor is a product called filmed ply. My internal mesh walls can change from 2 or 4 berth with a large wardrobe to fit gazebo and lots of stuff (this can be used as 1 lmedium or 2 smaller additional berths but entry doors are smaller)I also have a large build in frount storage boot that also has a side door that you can slide crates in. Open one wardrobe door a sink and small bench, water pump and undercariage water tank, In the frount boot is a battery set up that runs internal lights and water pump and ready for an aircon to be added. Outer doors have a solid opening panel with a security mesh inner door inside. I will take some photos soon

ashka1 replied to newfsie's topic in General Dog Discussion
All good vibes to you and Tobias, Newfsie. He is a lucky boy to have come into a great home. Makes me so sad that he could have been neglected so badly. Newfs are just love wrapped in fur. :D -
Sards Woder soap followed by a sea breeze rinse, not so much as to make the coat oily just disperse 1 or 2 tspn in a bucket of warm water or hydrobath tank. Yes silicone ther is in pantine and many conditioners

Allergy Treatment - The Next Step
ashka1 replied to RallyValley's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi ValleyCBR, I have had a huge problem with one of my dogs for 5 years.Dandruf, coat falling out, balding flanks and chest, dull greyish coat where there was some. He is A newf, No foods seemed to releave the problem. You name it we have tried it!!!About 1 month ago I was asked to try Advance Tuna and Rice. Not a fan of Advance at all but as the offer included 3 free bags, I decided to give it a go after seeing another dog improve dramatically. The theory is that all protien is removed bar fish is removed from the diet and some dairy, (youghrt) So I feed Advance Tuna, a tin of sardines in oil, 2 zinc tablets, and 1 tspn of Derma-Ionx , this is a liquid that you can get online, This dog hs never looked so good! I m amazed as I was very sceptical but have been very strict with his diet, I found some dried ocean perch treats so he still gets some goodies, feed him seperately so he cant get other dogs food. He is bathed weekly in Malaseb but after this you must rinse through with warm water and an oil like Kerri Oil or Seabreeze or the skin be comes dryer and irritated. I now, after only 4 weeks have shiny lack coated dog who is growing hair on his bald bits! He is not itchy and has lost that yeasty smell! I am not sure what is working here but this is the second dog I have seen this work on in the last 2 months. Could be worth a try for you too. good luck -
I hve to agree with those who think its a gimick. The amount of yoghurt is minimal and probiotics would be distroyed in the cooking process. A dollop of fresh yought on good quality dry is what I use. Also Fish For Dogs is in the shops now.. contains Chicken.. I have a dog with huge allergies on fish based diet. I had a look at buying fish for Dogs as a change from sardines but as it contains Chicken, I cant feed it. Did find some great dried fish slices in the dog treats today and the dogs loved them

Always used Plush Puppy OMG and Seabreeze but have changed to Isle of Dogs strengthening spray and straightening spray, brilliant results. I have Newfs

My newfs are great watch dogs and can be protective. On one ocasion my hubby sliped this dogs lead over the car tow ball, standing with him, while we were doing some show training on the front lawn. I was stacking a young pup and a jogger ran up the path very near me, he barked , broke his collar and all 80 kg bounded up to the poor very frightened jogger and stood between me and the guy barking. He never even looked like touching this guy but gave him a fright. This dog is actually a very placid , laid back boy. He is in no way dominant with dogs or people, he just loves his mum. Newfs dont have an agresive nature but certainly a warning bark and sized to back it up. They love their families and as a rescue dog have the brains to sum up a situation and sence distress.

I am so sorry to hear your news. I have had experience with 2 dogs with OCD , one dog is mine and one a close friends. Niether was a good outcome so sorry if this is not a positive story. I went for surgery, one shoulder, at 4 months of age and unfortunately dispite all the correct care, crating and follow up, physio etc the surgery was not successful. He still has problems and is on anti inflamatories and many oher supliments, he is nearly 4 now though you would think he was 10 as he is arthritic and needs medication to be pain free. My friends dog was also 4 months, different breed and both shoulders. He did not do well from surgery and went over the rainbow bridge, it was devistating! I do know a person who has been breeding for 50 years who crates dogs with suspected OCD for months with only toilet breaks on lead and she seems to get them fine in the long term. My boy is on Ester C, Glucosimine, Condroltin, MSM , fish oil and Mobic, I find all these help, could be worth a try with crating but not a short term fix unfortunately. Best of luck, my heart goes out to you. You have a long road ahead

Congrats! :D

Yep Bunnings. and use a construction contact glue.

I have a boy with terrible allergies and he only does well on Supercoat Puppy. The others are all on Eagle Pack so I agree, feed what works!

I was told by some agility people that they soak the dogs pads in condies crystals and this toughens the pads.
