  1. *sigh* Public liability is for "at fault" incidents. I doubt an insurer would accept a claim in these type of circumstances and I wonder if they would even be able to get cover for injuries to dogs at play. If you take up a request for compensation with the day care, I suspect the first thing they will say is "sorry, we are not responsible and you signed a waiver to this effect."
  2. Yeah I can understand that but the very nature of doggy day care (and what probably attracted you) was the opportunity for your puppy to have a play day with other dogs of a same size. If the same injury happened in the park while playing with other dogs - would you blame the owners of the other dogs? Just because it was at a doggy day care does not alter these circumstances - and I suspect you signed a waiver which says that they would not be held responsible for any accidents. Different story if they were negligent and say, left the door open and a dog escaped. I suspect the form also said that you had read and understood the terms and conditions - if these were not given to you then you should have asked for them before signing the form. I just looked at the waiver of several doggy day care places and they all disclaim liability for injuries due the owner's acceptance of the risk that DDC is a cage free environment.
  3. How could they be responsible? Sounds like an accident if she was playing with other small dogs and she was reported to have suddenly screamed - she could have jumped off something etc etc Someone is not automatically to blame for all accidents. I would put my energy into looking after pups instead. Anyway - I hope pups is doing okay.
  4. Exactly Sags - its all about each seller's own oncosts which they need to factor into the selling price. One of the drugs I have for Angs - there is a $30 difference between 2 vets for the same drug and the same amount. Therefore, as I have the choice, I buy it from Vet 1 who is also my usual vet.
  5. All vet advice I have been given is that a high protein diet is not bad in itself - it is when it is combined with high fat that the problems arise. The need to feed a lower protein food is mainly in relation to large/ giant breed puppies.
  6. With a 74kg dane - I used to do him in the large walk in shower and would hop in there with him and stand at the back - ended up damp of course. Now I have moved I have taught him to step into the bath tub and he stands there and I have a shower attachment on the bath taps and wash him that way.
  7. "There is little evidence to support therapeutic claims made for colloidal silver products; the risk to consumers of silver toxicity outweighs the value of trying an unsubstantiated treatment, and bacterial resistance to silver can occur; and efforts should be made to curb the illegal availability of colloidal silver products, which is a significant public health issue." This is the FDA's recommendation on colloidal silver!
  8. Perhaps because it was something which most of us consider before buying a large breed - the cost of feeding a giant dog. In my case it is simple - how can I afford to have my dog suffer through a constantly irritated bowel which causes discomfort and also unpleasantness for me (chronic wind and runny poo)? Even if my financial circumstances were such that I should look at cheaper alternatives - to me my dog's health is more important and I would find something else to compromise on. Feeding one giant breed is probably no different to feeding 2 smaller breeds.
  9. Hi Blues & Boots - I had the absolute opposite - farts were gone and the ocassion ones I do get are not as room clearing!
  10. Hey Angs is a repositioner - no dramas with straining or anything - I think it is a bit like a human having to hold a squat position - not the most comfy position!
  11. poochmad - this may be the cause of your stomach upsets/ poo problems in puppy!
  12. Pooch I would transition over a few days given his tendancy to get an upset stomach. In saying that I changed Angs over without a transition and no side effects! I found too many liver treats also set Angs off as liver is also rich. soft is exactly what we were getting.
  13. Hi - poo description becomes normal conversation!! I would suggest going to the vet first of all for a check up and make sure puppy came with nothing from the breeder's place/ the litter. Super-premiums can usually be taken back and refunded by the pet store on the grounds it was not palatable. I have done this with a couple of bags in the past. My first suggestion would be to cut out the lamb mince. Lamb can be quite rich - I know I cannot give it to Angs. Personally I always stayed away from pet quality mince and fed human grade. If pups has the runs, try a bland diet for a few days - cook rice, chicken and pumpkin and then gradually reintroduce the other foods. Ahh - treats (just re-read your post) - what treats are you giving and how often? If it is for training try using BBQ chicken - tasty but bland!
  14. harold - the other thing which has come out of the posts here is that most people feeding Orijien are actually feeding less now - I dropped from 9-10 cups to around 7-8 cups a day. I am going to drop it back to 6-7 cups over the next couple of weeks. Even with dropping the amount feed - Angs has put on weight. This makes it more cost effective than the EP - I was going through a 13.6kg bag in less than 3 weeks.
  15. I would suggest doing some more reading. High protein in conjunction with high fat creates the issues - not high protein alone.
  16. harold The costs for Orijien is the same as you pay for EP and at least one other super premium dog food. I am more than happy paying this price given I am going through less and it is the food which is best suited to my dog's needs and which he has done best on.
  17. I echo Stormie. It sounds almost identical to the issues I had with Angs - put him on Orijien and have cut back from 9-10 cups to 7 cups of food a day (he does weigh 72kg!) and the farting has stopped and the poos are like proper dog poo now!! He might be intolerant to the grains and this is the main ingredient in the SC/ Bonnie etc. If he is, it is like giving milk to someone lactose intolerant.
  18. Yes I get told off for googling things too! Try Orijien?? I really cannot emphasis enough the change I have had in Angs - his coat has improved too.
  19. nksyd - since having my cat on it - his coat is so nice and soft and shiny!
  20. Cowanbree - I doubt Angs has coeliacs but Angs used to have a rather bad farting problem and always had soft stools and was prone to getting the runs. I switched him from Eagle Pack to Orijien and some barf and the farting has 99% gone!! Stools are firm and less frequent too.
  21. That's because you forgot to teach him how to separate the recyclables! He showed me how he was taught to unpack a suitcase today too! (sorry Erny!! - cute puppy - excuse my ignorance but what breed is he?)
  22. You must have trained Angs in cantonese as I have seen no improvement! However I'll double any fees if you can train him to go to work for me!
  23. No increased energy/ hyperness from Angs!! Milo (cat) is also on it and his coat has improved and he is eating less - thank goodness as that cat would go through 400g of Royal Canin in 4 days! - he now gets 1/3 cup x 3 times a day.
  24. The one thing I picked up on was that you had tried a number of foods. From my experience of owning a dog blessed with a 'delicate stomach' - changes in diet can cause the runs - even just giving treats was enough. I have found this has resolved by switching to a food with no grains in it. Try and avoid lamb and roo in the meantime too. If he has food sensitivity then I personally would be avoiding any food brought in the supermarket or from Hills. Is there any blood in the poo?
  25. Good point Gomez! I have dropped from 9 cups to 7 cups a day on Orijien. Laffi - you are correct - protein levels are around 40%. The food is 70-75% meat source and 25-30% fruit/vegetables. Google Urban Animal as they did a series of articles over the last issues about deciphering food labels.
