What Do You Feed Your Dogs
Danois replied to encouraging_angels's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Encouraging Angel - what's the link between the foods you have promoted in your post and the ones which 'Dr Chris' promotes? -
I did not think that you were supposed to give greenies to puppies? If the smell from her bum is metallicy/ fishy then it sounds like anal glands. If it is really bad breath then you should see your vet to ensure nothing going on in mouth like gum disease, teeth issues etc.

Allergy/intolerance - Update 28.4.09 Post # 106
Danois replied to Erny's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Of my boy as he is now, you mean? I can take an updated one tomorrow and post it later in the afternoon. He is looking somewhat better since he's been eating last couple of days. Thanks Danois. I'm keeping my mind open to anything that could be possible, at the moment. Just of the paw! -
Allergy/intolerance - Update 28.4.09 Post # 106

Erny - I'm still waiting for an informed response elsewhere. On this issue - can you post a photo? -
For 8 weeks old I would say this is the maximum time to go between urinating. When Boo was a little pup he was also peeing with excitement or nerves sometimes - if it was in relation to someone coming to the house then they ignored him until he was calm. Sometimes it was in relation to meeting other dogs - I ignored the behaviour. He grew out of both quite quickly.
-
The puppy is 8 weeks - how long have you had it? Could it be a case that the puppy is just settling into new routines? (of course also get the vet check)
-
Do not rely solely on your vet for advice on what is best for your puppy - this is where the breeder and other lab owners are the best source of information. Unfortunately many vets will simply sell you what they stock - which is usually Hills. I think Eukanuba or Royal Canin have a lab specific food.

I would recommend joining a Yahoo Group called CIMDA - its all about Canine Immune Mediated Diseases.
-
Yes they can be. Please remember that mosquitos carry heartworm so make sure you are up to date and if not, get the vet to test them before starting back on monthly treatment.

I think it was Fiery Di who had a dog with IMHA too. Was it Ruby?
-
erny - do you mean IMHA or IMPA? With the IMPA Angs had an ongoing problem with lameness which seemed to shift and then settled into one rear hock predominately - his hock was swollen with fluid there. The fluid would not grow anything in a culture but had a white blood cell count through the roof from memory. His bloods came back with high counts too. Other than that he was super skinny. He had skin problems and seemed to be grain intolerant. https://www.vetconnect.com.au/5min/data/09620963.htm This is good info on IMPA IMHA: https://www.vetconnect.com.au/5min/data/03440345.htm

http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/CIMDAsupport/ Consider joining this Yahoo User Group. CIMDA is Canine Immune Mediate Diseases (something). My dane Angs was diagnosed with IMPA (polyarthritis) at just over 12 months of age however had been displaying symptoms from at least 5-6 months of age which my previous vets thought was HDD or something like that but something did not sit right with me and I found a new vet who diagnosed it and we started treatment. This was cortisone and later, azo something. We held him stable on a very low dose of cortisone for 9 months and then he 'crashed' for want of a better word. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis so we had to back off the cortisone. A further blood test 2 days later showed that he had developed IMHA which we think the cortisone had suppresed but came through given the opportunity. I had him PTS the same day. My vet said his was not vaccine related and we did not use the Proheart injection.

What's wrong with it? It smells beautiful and I recently bought two lovely pots of it for my courtyard. Nothing wrong as such - another dane owner I was talking to yesterday mentioned it in relation to her dog's itchies and Boo has been itchy since mine has been in flower too - might be the pollens from them.

Do you have orange jesomay/ muraya in your back yard?
-
From one of the OP's other threads (probably do not need to keep starting new ones on the same subjects) - she was only charged $32 for the 'pumping' - stormie has pointed out that this was probably just for a tablet to induce vomiting - so not stomach pumping as most would understand the term to mean.

Peter Schofield 29 Dunnymeade Road Berkshire Park M: 0411 353 130 Cost $20 from memory. Gentle and calm guy - no bone cracking. He does a lot of the racing greyhounds. A number of us dane owners have used him to great effect.
-
Danes are not necessarily outside dogs and can also be quite susceptible to temperature. T&E - working all day does not preclude toilet training - it can be done. What you need to do is move the tray closer and closer to the door and then outside (over a week or 2) - if it is done gradually then he should just follow the tray and go there. Otherwise - it is still the vigilance when you are home in watching him and taking him out every 30 mins or so.

Whats The Best Way To Remove Dog Hair From A Couch
Danois replied to glendabenda's topic in Puppy Chat
Damp kitchen sponge! -
I have tried Eagle Pack and Euk for Boo but he had no consistency in output and was also struggling to hold weight despite eating a lot. I finally put all of my preconceived ideas aside and put him on Bonnie (breeder's advice) and he has gone well. His weight is great, firmer poos and he loves it and eats it all first go as opposed to picking like he did with the others. I don't think his coat is as good as it was on EP but I can work on that with other things. The only issue with Bonnie for me is that the puppy one is too high in protein so have been feeding working dog. My food bill has gone from $115 every 3 weeks (13.6kg) to $40 (20kg) and should last the month!

Isn't there a chance that with sedating that it might disguise or mask any other symptoms the dog has - either those there at the vet for or ones the owner might not have noticed? Cannot say I would be keen on giving a dog such a drug if not necessary. If heartworm is such a drama then why not which to monthly tablets? There is a lot of people who do not like the annual vacs for good reasons.

So sorry for your loss Jed

So sorry ILDD - I wondered if something had happened when I saw your status but did not want to ask for fear this was the answer Run free Kleo - look for Angs - he'll show you around. Hugs to you Dribbly.

Thank you Carlibud for giving Buddy the chance to know what being a loved family member was all about. I am so sorry for the heartbreak you must be feeling but you can take comfort that Buddy and Carli will be together at the Bridge.

Huga - what camera and lense do you use? Fantastic shots!

The idea of using sand is that it is a different texture from dirt and you can teach the puppy that digging in dirt is not allowed but is allowed in sand. if you allow digging in dirt in the 'sandpit' then you will get digging in dirt in the garden.
