  1. Go back and read my post Lieb - I said add a couple of tablespoons of mince to make a gravy - not the same as what you had advised.
  2. Yep my vet is familiar with the procedure - especially in danes.
  3. Jed - perfect timing for this thread for me - I was switching between pexy on desexing or not. There is bloat in his lines - his mother bloated and survived.
  4. 4 times a day is ok if she is eating everything at each meal. If she's not then maybe drop down to 3 meals. Most people work on a 15 min rule - the dog gets 15 mins to eat and then the bowl gets put away until the next meal. RC has larger sized kibble and it gets bigger as you move up through the food - this encourages them to crunch it rather than swallow. EP has smaller kibble. I prefer the EP food and now feed the EP holistic fish one. I have found there is less poo on EP than RC. If you feed something like Bonnie or Supercoat (which has cereals as first ingredients) then you get a whole lot of poo! In my view, EP is a better quality food. The Great Dane Lady (sas referred you to her website in the M&M thread) used to use the EP food as part of her feeding programs but recently changed for commercial reasons (it seems). Hiccups are normal (and cute!) in young pups. They grow out of it. Once she gets a bit older you can feed whole chicken frames instead of chicken wings. I would not feed a giant breed puppy chicken necks.
  5. That's my approach. Feeding time is when I say it is, not when he tells me. Some dogs have trained their owners well
  6. I seriously don't understand how people have never seen the report button!
  7. :D I have no anxiety at all leaving my dog when I go to work/ leave the house - same cannot be said for the dog. At some times (but not always) he will not sleep, not eat, chew things and 'panic' bark.
  8. If Ellie is not eating it then you could try adding a little warm water to make it softer for her and then phase that out in a week or so. Only use warm water otherwise you can destroy the nutrients in the food. I went through a patch when Boo would not really eat so used a little bit of water mixed with some vegemite in his dry food to encourage eating. You can also mix a couple of tablespoons of mince with water to make a gravy and mixing this through. Keep to 3 meals a day for another few weeks at least. Beef bones might be too tough on her teeth - try chicken wings. There is some thought that soaking kibble can contribute to bloat. As the owner of a giant deep chested breed you will want to read up on this. There are generally a couple of general rules that people with breeds predisposed to bloat follow - not exercising/ keeping quiet an hour either side of food, not allowing excessive drinking after exercise and feeding from a raised bowl (although this is more for comfort). You should learn what the signs of bloat are and always have the number of an emergency vet on hand. Many dane owners also have De-Gas Tablets in the house.
  9. LOL Nekhbet - just posted the same comment re raw in another thread! I used RC Giant for a while and had no issues with it. Many dane owners feed ProPlan, Eukanuba or Eagle Pack. I feed Eagle Pack.
  10. I hope he didn't pay a premium for her based on her being advertised as "purebred". Did he say what breed she's supposed to be? no i dont think he paid what most prue bred staffords go for, he said they were meant to be prue bred stafford i must ask him if he saw the pranets of the puppy when he got her he did said as she was comming out of her puppy stage he noticed that shes wasnt a prue bred and was ver mad they lied about it I'd hope he did not pay more than $100 or so!
  11. Why should such threads have to engender empathy in posters? We all have different experiences and views on things which means we will always view something different to the next person and this will colour our responses. For example - I can empathise with someone here if they have a terminally ill dog because I have been there done that. I do not empathise with someone who has to rehome their dog because they have moved into a house where dogs are not allowed therefore look at it factually/ objectively. All that aside, regardlessly some people will always play the victim or woe is me card or have no insight into how a situation is of their own making. Why should there be an expectation we all sit around, hold hands and sing kumbayah when this happens?
  12. More than likely If he has had a big run in the morning then I do not give him breakfast as I leave for work. In turn, he has to wait after a big run at night so I imagine I have simply not fed him later on. He does not get overly worried if I skip a meal although he can't really afford to miss meals. He occasionally fasts himself. Now if you're talking about the cat, he would not let me forget to feed him
  13. I agree with the people who have said pretty much, if you post something which is going to get reactions from people or touch on 'sensitive' issues then you have to expect that you will get both positive and negative responses. If you cannot handle those responses then perhaps rethink the plans to post here. Just like I get amazed when people post personal things and then get all uppity when people offer their opinion. Given the number of members on DOL there is always going to be disagreement on whatever topic is posted. However I do think the level of hypocrisy some people show on here - accusing people of doing things they themselves are guilty of - is surprising at times. But my overall bug bear is those people who do not endorse the aims of the forum - by posting about BYB litters, posting photos of designer dogs and by digging at registered breeders etc.
  14. Thanks - I know that publication well and was curious about the previous person's post re case law as it is not mentioned in that publication.
  15. I don't know any dane owners who feed Great Barko. I know of some who feed their adults on Bonnie. Unfortunately the Great Barko website does not hold much nutritional information bar 22% protein min, 10% fat min and 5 % fibre max. INGREDIENTS Great Barko is formulated from a selection of the following ingredients. Cooked meat or meat by-products derived from beef, lamb, chicken, pork, cooked fish or fish by-products, fat, cooked cereals, wheaten bran. Canola and soy products derived from them. Lysine, methionine, antioxidant, bentonite, vitamins and minerals. Vitamins: A, D3, E, K, B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B6 (pyridoxine), B12, niacin, pantothenate, folic acid and biotin. Minerals: Calcium, phosphorus, sodium, chloride, cobalt, copper, iodine, iron, manganese, selenium and zinc. I would not feed that food to a growing dane personally but as stormie said, if they do ok on it and it maintains slow and steady growth then that should guide you. Have you spoken to your breeder about it?
  16. Can you provide a reference for this - is certainly contrary to what I have read re by-laws/ strata so am interested in reading more.
  17. No offence but you have 4 topics already on the front page alone - could you not start one thread and ask all the questions in there?
  18. How come he is listed as a whippet x - to me it seems like the other breed in there is more prominent re looks. Maybe people are put off when they see the pic as they expect to see something more whippet like.
  19. The RE Agent should not let you have signed the lease under the BC approval had been granted. If the lease needed to be signed then it should have been conditional upon the approval of the BC - ie that you could terminate if you were not allowed. The BC must not unreasonably withhold their consent to the request. As a cat is permitted by another occupant then they would struggle to show that no pets are allowed was a valid reason. You can challenge their decision under the by-laws (usually by mediation). Tell the RE Agent that you relied on their/ the owner's representations (re approval for the dog) to enter into the lease and you would not have done (enter into the lease) if they had said no pets were allowed and that you will ending the lease (by taking it to the CTTT if necessary). Tell them that while you are looking for another property, you will be keeping the dogs with you. If you do keep the dogs there then the BC can apply to the CTTT for you to be fined - they cannot have you evicted. You could then pass this on to the Landlord! Keep a record of all the additional moving costs and then seek reimbursement from the Landlord/ Real Estate Agent.
  20. Is the bitch desexed? If not, you are going to have a hell of a hard time ahead - not just over her but if any females nearby come into heat. I'd desex the stafford and the bitch and leave the mastiff until the critical growth is done. Hormones probably have a large role in all of this. Otherwise - behavourist.
  21. If you cannot find anyone then I suggest you contact PAX from here (she's currently away) - I highly recommend her kennels. I have a breed hard to kennel and he was looked after wonderfully - lots of yard time, good food and one on one attention.
  22. My dog has done it twice (completely out of the blue) but has not done it since - they were close in time. Both in the same dog park - first was a lady sitting down and she had called him over. He got pats etc and then went behind her and cocked his leg. Lucky he is big and it went over her shoulder. Second time he was with a couple of other dogs when 3 teenagers sat down in the middle of the dog park with food. All the other dogs went in for the food - Boo went to the side and cocked his leg on a bag. I now warn anyone sitting down near us - just in case and recall him away if he is in that direction.
  23. If I do not get up when my alarm goes off, Boo jumps on the bed and whacks me with his paw - usually in the head!
  24. I believe that is a known side effect of Pred. Yes, that's my experience - Angs developed pancreatitis while on cortisone HOWEVER that was on long term use.
