Should Small And Big Dogs Behave The Same?
Danois replied to grumpette's topic in General Dog Discussion
I dislike when owners let their small dogs run and join in with the larger dogs playing. My dog plays with a standard poodle, an airedale, lab and a x breed. Typical larger dog play involving lots of running. Occasionally SWFs will run over and join in and their owners oblivious to the risk. Its a long way to his feet for my boy and he has bowled a SWF over several times now while he is playing with the others - they get under his feet, he does not see them and it is risking a serious injury to my dog if he trips over however I get the dirty look when the small dog yelps. -
Petbarn do not sell animals (other than fish etc). They have a loyalty program ($10 voucher per $x spend) and the Buy 10 and get the 11th free on food. In Sydney they support Monika's.

Do You Feed Your Dogs Morning, Night Or Both.
Danois replied to ~Myschafis~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Morning and night - as a bloat precaution more than anything. Evening meal tends to be slightly larger. I frequently give supper too if I am trying to get weight back up. -
LOL you bet me to it! I was going to say Ian at Pennant Hill Vet. Can't rate them highly enough and from the client side can certainly reiterate stormie's comment re them going out of their way for clients. Boo gets so excited when he realises we're at the vet and turns himself inside out when he sees Ian.

That would have to be some of the worst advice I have seen given to the owner of a giant breed puppy!
-
No advice on the specific questions Gilypoo other than to start feeding them away from each other (ie in crates or 1 inside and 1 out) to minimise risk of a repeat.

Hey stormie - its been a few years since I knocked off bunnies for cat food with the .22 in the back country but I used to be a damn good shot

Family Dog - Move To Us - What Will Happen?
Danois replied to Snowball's topic in General Dog Discussion
You could try PM'ing Gomez as she went to the states from Aus with Gomez. -
Find out who they are for me! It was the groom, best man and MC! Just go to one of the halls of residence at Massey and I'm sure you'll find a couple of willing volunteers! Just give them a couple of cases of Tui!
-
Being budget conscious is not the issue here although feeding human grade for a 70kg dog is not always viable! Some dogs need specific diets because of an allergy - which could include chicken. Hey sas - I heard a story this weekend about a group of boys from Massey who'd go hunting on the weekends in the Ruahines and take down wild goat. They'd bring it back and mince it in the lounge room (as you do at Massey!), cook it up and serve it to their mates and they were never the wiser they were eating goat mince!

Not as obviously as the main ones, but seeing they don't really fit into either of the other two types, they would probably be classed as brachy Ah I had read they were not classed at brachy but could suffer from the same airway obstruction syndrome as brachy breeds (eg pugs, boxers)
-
Persephone - the rest an hour either side of food is done to minimise the risk of bloat in bloat prone breeds. That aside - would not be too comfortable going for a walk on a full stomach (just like in people )

Agree that 3.5 is not too old. Training can happen at any age and age is not an excuse for bad manners. I also do not think it is fair on the owners of the other dogs to encounter a dog behaving like that. Re being brachy - is she a CKCS? I always understood that CKCS are not a brachy breed

I echo what LukeW said - use NILIF and make your attention something of value to her. We have been doing a lot of clicker training (part of some dane challenges the dane thread is doing) and I have found that has really helped with us.

I only know he is doing them as I know the person who has helped him for a couple of days.

I use Holistic Select - this is the new branding on Eagle Pack. It is, in my opinion, one of the best foods on the market. I have not had any issues with putting too much condition on with this food but it can be a very individual thing. Also - remember that the feeding guide on the bag can be on the generous side. Is your dog overweight? How much exercise does it get? Have you also considered whether it is getting extra food through training treats etc - you should take this into account re daily intake.

There is no website on their card - their address is 33803 Tasman Highway, Tulendeena, TAS and contact 03 63546378. The lady said they could post.

Local school around here leaves the gates open for people with dogs. The privilege is not abused (re leaving poo). Also agree with stormie's comments re on-leading walking. Short gentle walks for dane puppies is perfectly fine - taking them for a rapid 2km walk on the other hand is not so good.

Looks lovely! I also spy Lea there with Bond (pointer) unless I am mistaken!

The photographer doing the BOB photos is Trafford

From the issues with Orijien (in cat food) I learnt that only dog food which is not processed at high enough temperatures needs to be irradiated when imported into Australia. Some manufacturers (such as the one who makes Orijien) process at a lower temperature to preserve nutrients etc. I cannot recall where I read it but I read that there are some US made foods which are exempt from irradiation - cannot recall which brands though. PS - its not good netiquette to type in caps on forums.

I was at the Royal yesterday and SS had a big display of their bowls. The huge ones are $45 there. They are back and running in Tasmania - took them awhile to set everything up down there apparently but definitely back in business. Their stall is in the dog pavilion (them aside, shopping was a bit disappointing there this year unless you have a small dog you like to dress up in novelty clothes).

I am familiar with Centennial Park and am not a fan - too many out of control dogs there. No way would I have an 11 week old puppy there off lead. Puppies are puppies with the attention span of a gnat and it would not take much for them to decide to take off and there is so much traffic etc in the park. I have also heard of parvo in the Eastern Suburbs.

7.30 Report Abc To Do Expose On Dd Puppy Farms
Danois replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
To an extent its disappointing it was an ABC report. The ABC audience demographic is probably not really the same demographic of those who go to puppy farms/ pet shops for their puppy purchase. -
7.30 Report Abc To Do Expose On Dd Puppy Farms
Danois replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
No dog breeding should be carried out (even in accordance with the code of ethics) in giant tin sheds akin to battery hens or piggeries. There has been so much agitation by the RSPCA against those industries as inhumane - surely dogs in similar conditions is akin to this given dogs are companion animals and they need to focus on these practices before worrying about registered breeders. The RSPCA need to do something about their website re puppy farms as they have this re registered breeders: http://kb.rspca.org.au/What-is-a-registered-breeder_328.html ://http://kb.rspca.org.au/What-is-a-re...eeder_328.html - great way to confuse the public and send them to puppy farms like Banksia.
