The word REGISTERED has been well and truly hyjacked. And the numerous requests of you to quit using caps have been ignored. Just in case you're unaware - using caps in a forum is considered rude and is seen as yelling.

The owner saying no and the Owners Corp saying no are two different things An owner can say no to a tenant and that's the end of it as its a condition of renting the property. If the owner says yes then it will be subject to OC approval. The OC can say yes or no and per my previous post, under the bylaws, if they've said yes to other pets in the strata it is very hard for them to say no to the tenant. They cannot unreasonably withhold their consent. This is how it works in NSW in any event.
-
Actually, they cannot differentiate between owners and tenants. If they allow an owner to have a pet in a strata then they would struggle considerably to say no to a tenant under the way Body Corp laws work.

I have bought the Jollie Treats before and had a hard time trying to actually find any Meat in them! Don't the sesame seeds get stuck inbetween the dogs teeth? Edited to correct spelling Can't miss the meat in the dried beef All the biscuits have meat in them too and decent meat cuts - not cheap, petfood grade stuff. Give them a call, they're really lovely to talk to and would have happy to explain their product I'm sure. No idea about the seeds getting stuck - can't say I examine my dog's mouth that closely but he also has big teeth and has not asked me for the dental floss

It's actually a shame more vet nurses are not like stormie and seek out knowledge and educate themselves beyond the basics. Its through her interests and own education that she been able to get her clinic to make changes - around vaccination protocols, about diet and about allergies. I suspect the vet there now knows more about allergies and how effective different treatment options are simply because of stormie. As a patient of theirs, I have absolute confidence in the advice that she provides and of course she's not stupid enough to give advice outside of her knowledge which you seem to suggest she does. I've even known her to be right and the vet to be wrong and I've certainly known her to have more of an idea than young vets. If my vet did not have confidence in his nurse's knowledge then I'm sure he would not let her talk to patients. I'd never expect advice from my doctor's receptionist but I would expect it from her nurse :D

I use Jolie biscuits, dried beef with honey and sesame and their beef and vegetable discs - they are more expensive but locally made, decent ingredients and nothing nasty in them. Vet's All Natural have treats now made with kangaroo - got these for the first time this week and they've been popular. I also use Lickables - the fish ones which is 100% dried hoki.
-
I agree with Stormie. I expect that any such product I use on my dog has in fact been tested on dogs to ensure it is safe. Its not a pleasant reality but ensures my dog is safe.
-
Well you get a gold star from me, Stormie, because from the quality of your informative posts I thought you were a Vet. don't worry - stormie deals with most of my enquiries - I only see the vet if I need the anal glands done I personally think it would not be the easiest job as they're frequently dealing with people who are concerned about their pet - need to calm them down, get information out of them and make an assessment about what course of action to take. They also have bad days - who knows, you might have got someone who's just had to help put down someone's pet or dealt with a cruelty case. My vet has fantastic staff and even the other nurse who I don't know, now knows me by voice :D

Anyone Want A Free Home Stay In Sydney?
Danois replied to MadWoofter's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think the call needs to go out further than DOL - there are probably a heap of people here who would love to help but have their own dogs that need looking after so staying away from home is not an option. Not ideal but could the dogs go into a kennel for a short time? If so I am sure people here could help transport them out to a kennels. Where is MW located? -
Capstar And Epileptic Dogs

Your own advice in another thread yesterday is perhaps the best... -
No offence but do you always over analyse your dogs' behaviour this much? I have seen dogs do this frequently - intervening to divert attention or 'rescue' another dog. An ocassional playmate of my dog has intervened before when my dog was being hassled by a small dog and herded it away from my dog. On another ocassion, my dog intervened and engaged a GSD in play that was starting to harass the same playmate and I don't think my dog has unusually good social skills or is overly decisive.

Anti-histamines work differently in dogs to humans.

Emergency Vet Numbers In Sydney?
Danois replied to openarms's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sydney Animal Hospital is open at Norwest until 11pm - 8883 0411 - standard vet rates should apply as they just have long hours rather than after hours Unit 8, Pinnacle Estate, 1-3 Celebration Drive Bella Vista NSW 2153 We are located under the AAMI building. -
Phenergen can be given to dogs (as can most anti-histamines intended for humans). Ingleburn Vet has a good chart on their website for dose rates but of course - first course is always to ring your own vet. If it is a bad reaction then a cortisone treatment might be more effective.

Top 10 Surgically Removed From Pets
Danois replied to dogbesotted's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I can put a tick beside pantyhose or rather knee highs but thankfully despite several consumptions they've always come out the other end... If there is a knee high somewhere Boo will find it -
Anyone who lives in Sydney knows that where Dan comes from to see her vet is pretty hardcore dedicated. That's a hell of a drive but she doesnt care - she loves her vet clinic and I'll guarantee she doesnt ever quibble about the cost. (She's probably scared of Stormie as well ). When you find a great vet that you love you just stick with them because you know the main thing - they'll look after your animals. Chocolate bribery also works!

Maybe I should book in for Easter and Xmas now
-
I barely pay much attention to what the bill is - last time I was there I even gave the vet nurse the pin number to my credit card! As Raz said - I drive around 45 mins to get to my vet and pay a squillion dollars in tolls (Harbour Bridge, Lane Cove Tunnel and M2 and then back again!) when I have the Sydney Uni vet right around the corner from me.

Yay for Pax!
-
Narrr I think I'll just bring all of my dogs in, shove them in the room with SuperVet (poor guy) and Stormie can make me coffees, then I'll just hand over the Deeds to my house when SuperVet asks me to pay the bill. To the OP - just ring up your vet clinic and ask. I tried to leave the GingerBeast stuffed behind the fridge last time but alas he was spotted and popped back in his cage!
-
I took my dog and cat in recently and they shared the consult room (and oddly my dog was more settled than usual) and I paid a consult fee for both of them - new consult rate for the cat and a repeat consult fee for the dog as it was about a previous matter. I have absolutely no issues with the 2 fees as I took up at least 1/2 hour of my vets time. 2 fees, a urine test and some cortisone still only set me back just over $100.

How To Keep Snails Away From Vegie Patch!
Danois replied to baifra's topic in General Dog Discussion
They are leopard slugs and they like the dead animal tissue, pet food and pet faeces. I have regular visitors inside If you drop salt on them they make a kind of funny sound, swell up and then die. -
How To Keep Snails Away From Vegie Patch!

Regardless if you do it when the animals are not around, I would never run the risk of having snail bait around where my cat and dog go. IMO its not worth the risk especially when beer alone will work.
