Is Renting With 2 Dogs Harder Than Renting With 1?
Danois replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Don't always blame the fact you have dogs for not getting a place either. Before they even consider the pets they consider you as an applicant and they like to see sufficient income, steady employment and also good length at current place - it all says responsible person. -
Its a shame that with all the changes there is still nothing which stops rescue putting dogs straight from the pound on flights with 8-12 week old puppies.

Is Renting With 2 Dogs Harder Than Renting With 1?
Danois replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
(sniped) Where does it say this?? A rental property is a person's private property and there is no legislation that I know of that dictates to an individual that they have to allow a tenant to have a pet. Are you sure you're not confused with bylaws in Strata? Even in those circumstances, the owner has the first say re pets or no pets. -
Is Renting With 2 Dogs Harder Than Renting With 1?
Danois replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not necessarily true. I secured a new rental last week - very nice house, one of the best streets in desirable suburb with a cat and a dog (a giant breed - not a SWF). Around 8 applications went forward to the owner for consideration. If you show you are a responsible pet owner and agree to the standard pet clauses, you may be a preferred tenant as pet owning tenants tend to be seen as more likely to stay long term and, dependent on the neighbourhood, take very good care of a property. At least pets don't draw on the wall in crayon :D -
What Makes A Dog Attack On Dog/puppy, But Love
Danois replied to Caesars mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
It can be many factors. There is a young GSD in my local park - plays with the majority of dogs perfectly fine without any issues however if he sees my dog he attacks and will fly across the park (which is large) to do it. Interestingly he attacked another dog of the same breed as me just recently and I wondered if it was based on size but he happily plays with another dog of the same breed as me (there are only 3 of my breed who use the park). Personally I just think it is an a%^(hole of a dog who's issues have been caused or amplified by its idiot owners i.e. the dog does not recall - easy to see why. Saw them recall it once and when it finally went to them it got hit in the head several times -
Looking For Someone Handy To Make A Big Kennel
Danois replied to Danois's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks guys! I can tackle insulating it myself. Its really hard to buy dane sized kennels and will look more closely at cubbies too. Have also been looking at garden sheds -
Edited design Hi I am looking for someone to make a kennel along the lines of this: http://www.cozypetsdogkennels.com.au/new_page_1.htm (the bigger one) Just I want larger eaves at the front and probably with insulation. Does anyone know anyone in Sydney who makes such a thing to order? Can be an individual or business. This is perfect: http://www.keter.com/products/manor-4x6/ but it sells for $600

How Soon To Exercise Before / After Food?
Danois replied to Sticks1977's topic in General Dog Discussion
Do you have a breed prone to bloat? As owner of bloat prone breeder I would never exercise at least an hour either side of a meal where that exercise involves running aroung etc. I will feed after a short 10 min walk around the block on lead though. -
I tend to agree with you. As we are dealing with living beings (pets, as well as owners!), I would expect a different approach from vet and staff! Definitely would take my 'business' elsewhere. Our regular - nice - vet is in Five Dock. But I can highly recommend 'Alice Noe-Nordberg from Concord Animal Hospital'. She is wonderful. Great with Pepper, patiently answered soooo many questions, and was available for follow-up phone consultations, as well. Unfortunately, I think it might be too far from you? That's one of the things I love about Pennant Hills Vet - you're never rushed in a consultation, there's never a doubt they're interested in your pets - the vet there really cares and has a way with the animals. Plus they have a resident dane and newfy

My policy went up too - can't remember how much by. It's pretty standard for insurance premiums to increase annually - be it pet, car, contents etc. Pet insurance is becoming more common in Australia and as a consequence, more claims are being made so it follows that insurers need to put appropriate premiums in place - they are a business after all.

Is that the vet clinic near the high school with the big brick wall around it? Bennies? Definitely definitely recommend these guys!

Speaking from experience, it can be very difficult to get enough food into some dogs in set meal times.. they simply don't eat enough. For a single dog in this situation, free feeding is an option. I'd not suggest it be a good idea for multiple dogs generally. That's the problem I had - even if he'd skipped a meal (or 2), he still would not eat a big meal following that - he'd eat a normal size meal if that so we were constantly going backwards. If I am training him at home then he will respond to rewards but I tend to use high value which he does not get otherwise i.e. maccas meat patties but as soon as I put him into the ring or at obedience training, he has no interested in food due to everything going on around him but he will still work so I rely on praise as the reward.

Ah well guys - I would not waste your breath. Annie is not interested in anything people here have to say. Also - got to love the ole DOL grapevine - pity its not accurate when spreading personal information about members
-
I still don't have my PM from Annie. So I will repeat the question openly again - you have held out that you have a legal background so surely you are familiar with the TPA and the sections there re restricting people from dealing in a competitive market etc?
-
Except if you have a dog that does not eat well Although I free feed there is still meal times i.e come dinner time I'll top the bowl up or add something like sardines and my dog waits in the doorway until he is released and if I don't say it exactly and look at him when I do he does not move. He does not guard his food and will move away from his bowl if he is asked to. I just make sure there is a 'bonding chance' somewhere else in our day
-
Many have looked into this with no luck, There has been a few threads on DOL in regards to this. The ANKC can't... Annie99 - I am still really interested in your views on the TPA and breeders.
-
Thanks for that clarification. So therefore, like it or not, ANKC is supporting puppy farmers - or at best allowing them to be part of their group. I would not call a group that supports sale of pups to pet shops reputable. Annie - you have claimed elsewhere to have a legal background/ training - surely then you are familiar with the Trade Practices Act and the concepts of exclusive dealing and anti-competitive behaviour. I am curious though - what involvement do you have with the dog world? Are you a dog owner? Very good questions. I will send you a PM No PM has come through

I admit that knowing how much a dog is eating and resource guarding are considerations when there is more than 1 dog in the house. Boo's now up to 24 hours without eating and he's well - maybe its just the heat

42" Xlarge Collapsible Metal Dog Crate
Danois replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in General Dog Discussion
Try NFS Pet Supplies - look under wire cages. I've had troubles getting a hold of the guy but maybe that's cos I have not been ordering They're collapsible but are square not rectangular. -
I free feed because my dog has always been a problem eater. Tried the whole bowl down for 15 mins only and put away until next meal but made no difference - would not eat any more at the next meal or even eat the next meal and the dog just got skinner. I persisted for ages but stopped as I considered it was not in the interests of my dog's health. Sometimes he'll eat his meal and other times not. He gets left with his food when I go to work - some days its gone when I get home and other days its not touched. He last got fed at aroud 7pm last night but did not eat the full meal. Its now 1pm and he has not eaten today at all. Having a breed prone to bloat I am thankfully I don't have a guzzler.

We've been trying since November.

;) lucky you GayleK - I've been trying to get a hold of him for ages and there are 3 of us can't get a reply to emails or a phone call.
