  1. Hi I have listed my 450D for sale in the marketplace in case anyone is interested. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=217405 $490 ONO plus postage - includes 55-200mm lens. Around 18 months old.
  2. Jimmay - the ignore function is handy  The benefit of hindsight, the complete absence of adrenaline and not being there will always make others think that they would have done something different in the circumstances but until you are placed in the exact same circumstances, with the exactly the same emotional make up then its all just argument for arguments sake really...
  3. That doesn't cover dogs on laps. I agree - it contemplates dogs unrestrained on utes etc. You would have a defence is you had an unrestrained dog in the car and all the windows were up - there is no risk the dog would fall from the vehicle.
  4. I'd be cautious at 13 weeks using a dog park - not because of the interactions between dogs but because your dog would not be fully vaccinated yet (and then still need to wait after the last vax). Organise the socialisation for the yards of friends etc and their trusted dogs.
  5. I went to a function the other day in which Mia Freedman spoke and she uses a really useful way of making decisions which I liked the sound of rather than a pros and cons list. She said what she does is: Imagine for a minute that you have been told a puppy is yours - how do you feel? Then imagine for a minute that you have missed out on a puppy - how do you feel now?
  6. There is NO law in NSW which requires dogs to be restrained in a car.
  7. Now I agree with you Conditioning them to being able to spend time alone and being boarded is especially important if you have a deep chested breed (i.e. ones prone to bloat). Some studies suggest that stress is one of the causes of bloat.
  8. I don't think it is healthy for the dog or the owner to not be able to spend time apart without stressing etc When my dog was at the vets for his desexing and pexy, I have to confess to forgetting all about him being there - I have complete and utter confidence in my vet so have no issues leaving him there. I also like being able to go away (leaving dog in kennel or with house sitter) without having to have my whole routine revolving around the dog - I enjoy the break from the responsibility. My dog is part of my life, he is not my life
  9. I'm hoping they're there again this year too
  10. An untidy yard does not mean someone is a bad dog owner and does not feed their dog :)
  11. Why cause someone the angst of a RSPCA visit without making some enquiries first. All you need to do is ask the owner if everything is ok with the dog as you'd noticed she was quite lean. My dog was super skinny for the long time despite eating over 1kg food a day. If someone commented all I needed to do was let them know he had a fast metabolism and my food bill told me he was getting more than enough food.
  12. Can he see through the fence to the neighbours?
  13. You're restricted in the Inner West as there is nothing other than ones like what you saw - presumably you went to one of the ones around Roseberry? The other option is the Hanrob facility at the airport- bigger runs and they do get some outside time. Probably fine for smaller dogs. Otherwise their Heathcote facility operates a pet taxi and a number of the vets are collection points. Otherwise you need to go out to the western suburbs - to places like Calabash, Camarna or the kennels PAX from here runs. Personally they would be my prefered options.
  14. Padlocking the gate is a good idea - at my last place I came home one day to find my back gate open - no idea why (i.e. someone opened it or it blew open in the wind) but thankfully the dog chose not to go anywhere. This place the dog has the run of the house and outside when I am not here - the back door is left open. Mind you I have neighbours on both sides and behind and fences which are at least 8 foot tall. The side gate is bolted from the inside and my front gate is locked (dog does not have access between these 2 gates). I also live in a quiet street and right opposite the retired guy who potters around outside, does everyone's gardens and acts as community watch.
  15. Interestingly their Annual Report does not say how much they spent on legals (that I can see). It does show they recovered very little by the way of court costs and fines. I see the lawyer no longer sits on the Board but the barrister they brief does.
  16. Perhaps they should get in a professional service adviser and go through their books and find where their money is going. Based on last year's Annual Report they got around $25m in revenue but managed to spend $32m in operating expenses. Alternatively, they could free up some of the $62m they have in assets...
  17. Yes my black lab is the same atm!!! Wish mine was 'atm' only but its been a good 12 months and its not sunbleached or dead coat or coat change - just thin and brown and sheds a lot.
  18. Will love to know the answer I have a black dog and his coat is like that (in chocolate too!) and its not dead coat. Drives me nuts.
  19. But how do you know it was the arnica which did this? Perhaps, because it was a repeat operation, there was not as much trauma which gave rise to the bruising or other internal factors were at play which sped up the body's repair process?
  20. Homeopathic remedies may have their place however they should never replace conventional treatment when it places the life of the patient (be it human or animal at risk) however may have a place in complimenting such treatment. As RevJo said - there is a lack of independent scientific evidence to demonstrate they work.
  21. I do not agree with smoking around cats/ dogs. One of the most off putting things about dog shows is the amount of people smoking - I would love to see DogsNSW make the grounds smoke free at Erskine Park. I have seen numerous exhibitors bending down to get their dogs out of a crate and a lead on with a cigarette in their mouth less than 20cm away from the dog's face.
  22. Forum Rules: Do not cross post ads from other web sites, post links to topics on other forums where you have an issue with the topic being discussed or post links to 'perceived' bad breeders / puppy farms etc.
  23. I know from dane diets that it is not just the protein to fat ratios which are important but also the calcium to phosporous ratios. Both need to be kept in line to maintain slow and steady growth. For example the dietary matrix which research indicates best for danes is (maximum) 26% protein (high quality, animal-based source), 14% fat, 0.80% calcium, and 0.67% phosphorus
  24. I was told by a major retailer that, when the company sold in the US recently, they wanted to stop distributed to Australia but they received a lot of emails etc from people here in response so they decided to keep sending it. Seems to me that they want to get out of this market and are going about it by getting people to switch due to not being able to get stock.
