  1. Pet insurance has changed considerably in the last 10 years and the majority of policies no longer have breed specific exclusions. So long as the dog has not had symptoms prior to taking out the policy then they're covered - otherwise its noted as a pre-existing condition.
  2. There is one school of thought that you should not soak dry food if you have a deep chested breed due to an increased risk of bloat - presumably from the fermentation process which occurs.
  3. Thanks for sharing. Love the old wise faces who have served their owners well.
  4. Set up a webcam and record her for a day and I would not be surprised if you soon stop worrying or looking for doggy day care. Most dogs simply spend their day sleeping. Take puppy for a walk before work and do a short training session for some mental exhaustion. Leave different toys on rotation, some treats hidden for pup to find and a kong and you'll have a content puppy.
  5. No hard and fast rules here. The walk is for his enjoyment and he has always been a dog to stick his nose down and sniff - gives him some nice mental stimulation along with the physical exertion. So he's allowed to sniff and go to the toilet but I don't stop for him. He is not allowed to pee against fences/ property. Not allowed to pull but can go to the end of the lead (which is about 6 foot). I will call him to heel if we're passing people and then release him. Has to sit at curbs. We'll generally do some random obedience exercises somewhere along the way.
  6. You've been constantly on my mind and can't fathom how you must be feeling. Losing 1 is enough. Please give Abbie a great big hug from me.
  7. My ridgebacks used to eat them - loved them!! RS Mason has dropped the antler on my foot too, very ouch Oh yes - I've had it dropped on my foot too and Boo has a huge piece. Never had any mess here and he goes through phases of chewing it. As for pig's snouts - I feed them here tp a 60kg giant breed - he chews them up so maybe not suitable for a gulper but otherwise are good. I also use paddywack's - the beef neck tendon and just got a pork roll to try.
  8. Personally for a larger breed puppy I would feed a quality kibble diet while they are still growing. No harm in adding some extras ocassionally like sardines, yoghurt, mince etc but I only use them as extras not as part of the diet. You only get the one chance to grow a puppy properly so it is structurally sound as an adult. Plenty of years down the track to feed more variety.
  9. Most petfood companies have been sued at one time or another for some reason. Seems that one goes back a couple of years now anyway. Having read a couple of your posts now - best advice I have for you is relax!! It is dog food - it is widely fed and there seems to be no issues anymore. I think you're getting overly wound up when its not necessary (and this is coming from someone who's cat was poisoned by Orijien). If you are so concerned about dry food then feed a raw diet as that way you control it (once you get the ingredients anyway).
  10. Great to see you've gone for Canidae. I rotate between the Grain Free All Stages and the GF Salmon and my boy has done fantastic on the food. His coat was dull and washed out and on this food I'm told often how healthy and shiny he looks. IMO you cannot get many foods more superior than Canidae and I don't think the quality of the Aus made food is as high. I like the look of ZiwiPeak but its not cost effective for me to do so given I get through the 13.6kg bag of Canidae in 3-4 weeks (1 dog). I have found I am feeding considerably less Canidae than I was feeding EP.
  11. I have heard of it and looked into it with interest after I could not get Eagle Pack. I would have tried it out but it did not have the protein/ fat ratios I wanted (need an 'active dog' food). Can't remember the price being too dissimilar to EP and Canidae. I went with Canidae in the end and actually rotate that - 1 month it is a bag of salmon and the next it is lamb. I really don't care where my dog food comes from - I will simply feed the best food for my dog.
  12. There very well may be but how do you think that perception was created??
  13. I've met a guy who breeds them. Did not meet the adult dogs but got to play with a puppy - they have little buddha bellies after eating ETA - its the guy from that website
  14. Does not sound like the maker of the video received the necessary copyright permissions to use the photos in the video. Hope they have also received clearance from people like Steve Courtney to use his quote - the way it was used in that clip would lead someone to believe that the quote was made for that video. First rule of quoting someone else - get their permission. Second rule is make sure you reference the source properly i.e when the quote was made and where it was published. My view of the video (watching it with no sound) was that it did the breed no favours and showing the fighting was unnecessary.
  15. Goodbye Nala - you will be greatly missed. I am honoured to have known you It sounds like you chose your time - following the perfect day, doing all the things you loved and spending time with your family. Hopefully it is comfort to your family that you and Chantie can keep each other company while you wait. Big hugs to you and GirlChild Suz. xxx
  16. You'd have to speak to Troy if you wanted to do it on behalf of the Dogzonline forum as it is his business and he might not want the forum's name involved.
  17. I agree - it sounds a lot! My 60kg 3 year old eats about 4 cups of Canidae a day. If you are feeding a grain free version of Canidae then you actually need to feed less than other foods as it is more filing. Like the others I'd be cutting out the milk powder. Are you feeding something like chicken wings or necks? Bloat is more of an issue for deep chested breeds.
  18. Life That's probably not fair - he's easy to startle at things like a dropped pot lid and will take himself into another room when I vacuum. However he recovers quickly and does not always react. He's cautious about new surfaces, stairs etc but he will generally always tackle it - albeit with caution. Funnily enough, storms don't bother him!
  19. Be aware that you can only change insurers at the end of each policy year. If you cancel with your insurer in say month 5 you'll have to pay the other 7 months worth of premiums as pet insurance is an annual policy ETA - because there was a melanoma, you might want to take to the new insurer re their coverage as you may find you have cancer conditions excluded.
  20. Actually - under the Civil Liability Act in NSW (and from memory its the same in other states), an apology is not to be taken as an admission of guilt or fault.
  21. The toy collection in this house puts that lot to shame! There is 2 of those Ikea plastic boxes (that go in their bookcases) and they're full/ overfull. He does not destroy toys so I don't think there has been any thrown out in 3 years and there are some toys which belonged to Angs including a puppy kong which is used most days!
  22. We used to vacuum one of our cats - she loved it and would throw herself in front of the vacuum if you were trying to do the floors. Then again, this cat also liked to get in the paddling pool with us!
  23. As a start I go through $120 of dry food a month. $20 of chicken wings. $20 of dog roll and I'd say another $60 in other food and treats etc. Insurance is about $60. So $280 on the basics. I only flea and worm on an as needed basis.
  24. Try ordering through Pookinuk - he is ex-Williams (who are EP in Aus) and goes down to their warehouse to get stock.
  25. In a previous topic on this Shmoo posted this: FYI Counsel's Office means legal office. Knowing their speak - the use of 'might' was a deliberate choice.
