Geez some people are judgmental and seem to be suggesting that you should not get a dog in the first place if there is any chance in the next 10-15 years your circumstances may change! Sounds like our girl would rehome without too much issue and dogs are pretty adaptable - once she's settled into a new home and routine then she won't look back. People seem to forget that dogs don't have the same range of emotions as we do. Taking her over could be feasible - but you'd have to consider having gone over first to find and set up a place and then how much disruption there would be initially before routines would be settled.

Do You Refer To Yourself As Your Dog's Mum/dad?
Danois replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
Very very rarely and only if I am talking to the dog. I find the term furkid odd and furbaby just disturbing. -
Did you read any of this thread at all??

Was good to meet you guys this morning! I'm looking forward to trying out the product to see if it improves coat condition once I've finished my bag of dry food. I'll do the 6 week challenge and then send you a photo!

Thanks! I had forgotten! I need to get some shampoo tomorrow and was going to stop elsewhere on the way home from the beach but I'll come to Petstock instead! Tell him to be prepared for a coat condition issue!!

That or owners have common sense and can make a decision which is best for them and their dog taking into account their vehicle and the nature and size of the dog...
-
This is the Road Rule in question - each state has adopted it from Rule 297 of the National Road Rules and it is pretty self-explanatory: Rule 297: Proper Control of Vehicle: (1) A driver must not drive a vehicle unless the driver has proper control of the vehicle. (1A) A driver must not drive a vehicle if a person or an animal is in the driver’s lap. (2) A driver must not drive a motor vehicle unless the driver has a clear view of the road, and traffic, ahead, behind and to each side of the driver. The RTA in NSW have also confirmed in writing that it is not illegal to have a dog unrestrained. A loose dog jumping around a car or on the front seat could get you in under (1). A dog lying down in the back of a car/ 4WD is unlikely to trigger it.

It is not illegal in any state! Seriously - the topic seems to come up here every month.

I know of one Dane breeder who also has pharaoh hounds....

Would You Take Your Pup To The Vet On A Leash?!
Danois replied to Cavamum's topic in General Dog Discussion
My great dane was about 15kg by 10 weeks - he was not getting carried anywhere! -
His nickname was Boo (name is Baloo) but that stuck and became his 'normal' name! Now his nicknames are Tardy Boy, Boobie, Baloobie, Boo Boo, Boo Bum... The cat's name is Milo and his nickname is Squeaky. Both of them come to their nicknames.

Thanks to the people who voted - he's got a few extra votes now!

Hi Have never done one of these threads before but Boo needs some votes! He's a finalist to have a sculpture made of him - dog with most 'likes' on FB wins. He needs lots more likes so please click the link and like his photo. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=328535877178558&set=a.328534227178723.81743.216061098426037&type=3&theater Thanks!!

MtS - isn't this about the third thread now in which you've posted about your dog being overweight and asking what/ how much to feed?? You have been given a heap of advice previously but don't seem to follow it. Your dogs are overweight because you overfeed them - you are solely in control of that factor. If they carry on then address that behaviour and don't stand for it. They've clearly learnt that if they carry on then you'll give more food.

Oh dear god you two - get over yourselves! This is simply a thread advising about a public event. Thanks VAN for posting - its just down the road from me so I might pop down. Will you bump this thread closer to the time to remind people?

Except a court cannot take away a licence to breed!! If it was a registered breeder then only the state's canine control authority can do that. Even if it was a BYB a civil court does not have jurisdiction to make such orders!! Shamelessly bumping my own post but I see the OP is back online. I am still really curious about the breeder losing their licence under a court order - can you explain a little better what happened here?

I stopped using them as I found them next to impossible to get a hold of - no reply to calls or emails.

http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/on_my_soap_box_purdue_bloat_study.htm That link takes you to the Great Dane Lady's analysis of the Purdue Study - basically she thinks it is misleading as it presents as scientific research when it is only statistical research (her opinion). From memory her view is that dogs bloat because of stress - whatever that means to the particular dog. For anyone who owns an at risk breed - this is a valuable document to stick to the fridge: http://www.gdca.org/Bloat%20Chart.pdf
-
The issue is that there is no way of knowing if doing any of the preventative things actually stop your dog getting bloat. All you know is that you have a dog which has never bloated. Even if you had done the complete opposite - exercised before meals, high stress, fed soaked etc etc etc, your dog may have never bloated. IMO if your dog is going to bloat then it will bloat regardless of the measures you have employed or adopted.

A friend also suggested trying Canidae Pure Sea, which is also fish based. I will probably go back to Holistic Select once I can't get the old Proplan formula anymore, as I know it works for her. I feed this and rate it as a dry food. As it is grain free you also feed less.

http://www.bayeranimal.com.au/PDFViewer/DocumentDisplayPage.aspx?CurrentDocumentID=3jQGBUgArS9U6w43Z0j8ZQ%3d%3d The info label on the product - and I know its there as I checked my box mentions side effects. Of course its not practical to list every single different observed side effect of a medication - no difference to labelling on human medications.

What is wrong with Supercoat? My vet said it was fine to feed them. Is it just not as high end as science diet ect There is nothing wrong with supercoat. I used to feed it to my lot, and they loved it, grew well and became champions!!! When i wanted to upgrade to something a bit more high market, with less fillers and more of the better ingredients it was a nightmare. I tried EVERYTHING. We went through thousands of dollars through every brand Pro Plan, Advance, Science Diet, Eukanuba, etc, etc, and they all went on hunger strikes at different stages, and licked the canned food off it, to the point that one of the boys lost 2 kgs. We now feed Black Hawk and they like it, but last week when we were running low we mixed it up with some Supercoat and they gobbled it up like it was a last supper. I try and feed my dogs the highest premium dog food i can afford and at this time it's Black Hawk, and i will try everything i can to keep them on such a great food, but if my circumstances change, I will have to go back to the Supercoat. I dislike people being snobby about what other people feed thier dogs. 20 years ago there were no premium foods, and EVERYTHING had fillers such as soy, wheat, etc in them and breeders and owners had to had thier own substitues to them if they so pleased. Thier dogs survived. Although I believe a high premium food with all the benefits and fantastic ingredients Black Hawk includes in it is right for my dogs, and my situation it may not suit everyone and i will never look down or judge anyone for what they feed thier dogs. After all I know all of my dogs bluntly refused to eat some of the higher premium brands but would not get laughed at for trying them. Plus Supercoat does include a variety of additives that make it probably one of the better options for around $20 a bag. To the OP, find the one that your dogs like, or even better love. I know I'm about to be laughed at, I feed my Black Hawk with a small amount of the No Name Canned Dog Food (I jokingly call it 'crap in a can' - if it's chicken flavoured, then its 'chicken crap in a can' etc etc) I use just enough to entice the dogs to finish eating all the dry food because I know that's were all the nutrients are. I have found no evidence of worse farts and after all before that I had tried human grade mince (expensive but good), roast chicken (too expensive to continue but the dogs loved it, but they would eat the chicken and then leave half the dry food) various roo and other pet minces (found small pieces of bones in a variety of brands, plus the dogs did as they did with the chicken) other canned foods (dogs turned thier noses up at, especially the puppies, who would eat one flavour for a couple of nights and then refused to eat) and then every dog roll that Coles, Pet Barn, etc sold and they would eat it only without the dry AGAIN, so when I tried the No Name varieties I was sceptical, but I found that it coated the dry food better than anything else (probably because of the gelatin) and made them eat more dry food than they did with anything else. So, just try and find one your dogs like to eat. Supercoat does have additives to it (such as Vitamins, Omega 3, etc) so if you can get them to eat something that encourages them to eat thier dry food, good on you. Good Luck with it, and don't worry, each person's dogs are different and what other's enjoy other's may not!!!! Geez - overreaction much  My point was that they are concerned about feeding an el cheapo dog roll when they are already fed Supercoat which is not exactly a quality dry food.
-
Had to laugh at your post - you don't want to feed a cheapo dog roll yet you feed supercoat dry!! I would buy the tuckertime rolls.

When my dog who was insured died, when I went to cancel the policy I had to pay out the remainder of the premiums. Insurance policies are not monthly policies - they are an annual policy which they let you pay monthly. If you want to cancel (which would be through a final claim) then yes, paying out the premium is to be expected.
