  1. I disagree with your comments re Hollard policies being yearly policies in the manner you outline. The RSPCA policy (in the PDS) talks about a chronic condition provision which basically says that if the dog has a chronic condition/ illness then the maximum cover you will get for that specific condition for the whole time the dog is insured is the annual benefit payable under the policy in the year the condition manifested. So you could have $4,000 of costs a year for 5 years but after year 3 you would not be covered as the benefit limit was $12,000. Every insurance policy is an annual policy which gets renewed yearly - that's all types of insurance like car, health, pet etc. The Allianz policies are annual too.
  2. I honestly don't know what I paid for my 75kg dog to be PTS and cremated 4 years ago - it was irrelevant. It was necessary and I owed him the respect to treat him with dignity after he passed. Leaving them to be taken to a council tip and dumped is a very unpalatable thought. I know my vet nurse had to call me as their usual cremation company could not take him as he was too big for their facility.
  3. Over 6 years of pet insurance (3 different pets covered) and numerous claims including over $5k for my last dog's illness alone and I've never had my insurer query a single claim or not pay the claim so I question the remark re it being a con or they do anything to avoid payment. Aussie - your insurance experience is obviously vastly different than my time in it as avoiding claims was not our claims management model and I represented the major insurers in the market.
  4. Marketing puffery - and I think designed to trade off the back of the popularity of Eagle Pack.
  5. I'd keep my mouth shut. You've made a lot of assumptions about people you've only seen walking past. You assume they know nothing when the opposite could be the case.
  6. I agree! This is one of the reasons Ian is great! He's also what I call an old school vet - starts with the obvious and doesn't test for all and sundry - we call him SuperVet! I reckon he must also know our breed better than any other vet in Sydney due to the number of them he now sees - and also knows a hell of a lot about skin conditions. And the clinic is even more awesome as they support Dane rescue!
  7. MacMac was 18 - she claimed us when I was about 5. She was PTS as she had a stroke and lost use of her back end. I think Fluffy was 16 when she died.
  8. Through DOL essentially. Knew stormie on here and we were talking on msn about issues my then dog was having. So I went to see the vet at her clinic and have used them for 6 years now. I travel 45 mins to them - a lot longer in traffic. I would use the Sydney Uni vet in an emergency as its close.
  9. Honeybun - an auditor should be independent therefore a former colleague or buddy of the Treasurer should be avoided.
  10. The vets at SASH were helpful when Angs had IMPA - he also had IMHA. We don't know if it came after we had to back off the meds or the meds just masked it. Good luck.
  11. Yep - but it's very hard to get them to do professional services for professional indemnity insurance reasons.
  12. But you have to remember she knows her lines like the back of her hand and knows the diet that they do well on. Disregarding a breeder's advice on diet may rule you out for a puppy. It may also concern them that you'd be unwilling to follow their advice in many other regards. Why can't you feed the breeder's diet while the dog is growing and then switch later. Personally I would not feed a grain free food to a growing pup.
  13. That is around Yallala homestead I think - it is part of a walk from Brays Bay Reserve to Majors Bay. We did a good chunk of this last week with 15 Danes and its a stunning walk.
  14. The Great Sydney Dog Walks book by Katie Whiffen is a great resource.
  15. Hi - make sure you call Purina and give them the feedback. It is all logged.
  16. The BH thread in health has mentioned some digestive issues so maybe that's the cause? Vet advice is always recommended but I will fast for 24 hours and then feed rice, pumpkin and chicken (all boiled together) for a couple of meals and then resume normal food. Ensure fluids are being consumed to prevent dehydration and any sign the dog is not otherwise themselves then to the vet.
  17. Don't keep them in a bathroom if you do confine a puppy as they tend to be heat sinks and can get quite cold.
  18. Hmmm any chance it is Big Stinky Dog on FB Raineth?
  19. Persist in making her go outside. Having an indoor toilet will confuse her as she will not know that it's there for when it is bad weather. Re- condition her behaviour when it's fine - outside to toilet and yummy treat once she's done and comes back inside.
  20. I had a dog on the Eagle Pack Performance and noticed no increase in energy to be honest. I fed it as he burned through food. I switched to Canidae as it has the sameish fat and protein content.
  21. But do you have 2 breeds like a CC and a Boerboel? Boerboels are a guarding/ protecting breed - especially of its family and CC are also a guarding breed. Personally I think mixing 2 adult males of these breeds is a disaster waiting to happen.
  22. The guy who used to sell the Big Issue at Circular Quay (he may still but I am no longer at that end of town) used to be a driver for either the Packers or Murdochs. There is something in Urban Animal magazine this month (can read online at www.urbananimal.net.au) about who you can donate blankets to from memory.
