Okay - here is my opinion. I would not feed TOTW to a Dane pup. It is not a giant breed puppy specific food. I fed Holistic Select (when it was Eagle Pack) to my last Dane but cannot remember at what age. Eukanuba Large Breed is frequently used - as is ProPlan Large Breed. I have heard of a few feeding Advance. Royal Canin has a giant breed specific food. In all honesty - follow your breeder's recommendation while they are a puppy. There is plenty of time after critical growth to feed the food you want to feed rather than what the breeder is recommending based on their experience. You could also ask the breeder what other puppy buyers from previous litters have fed their puppies. Some dogs just don't do well on some foods.

Raw diets are not suitable for growing giant breeds who put on 1-2kgs a week while growing - and especially not for owners who may not be experienced in the breed or extremely au fait with raw diets and what is required to get the protein/ fat and phosphorous/ calcium ratios right. Please be more responsible in your advice.

Are There Any Solicitors In Nsw For Dogs?
Danois replied to beuatifulsunday's topic in General Dog Discussion
If it is an issue with quality of care with a vet then it is simply tort law/ negligence in the provision of professional services and most lawyers can deal with it. They don't need to be an animal law specialist. But NSW does have an Animal Law Committee as part of the Young Lawyers Society. Look on their web page or contact them for a list of names. -
I had not seen that website. God it brought back some bad memories

It was a great dog food. It worked for my ill dog where other foods were failing too. But yes - I watched my cat (who I was feeding the cat version to) lose control in his back end. He made a full recovery at the time - these days I have noticed weakness in his rear but who knows if that is age or residual effect. In hindsight, my dog dying saved my cat as I stopped ordering the food together online a couple of months before the recall. I'm pleased Rocky has improved too.

Dogs Not Restrained In Moving Vehicles

And before you tell that to people you teach obedience to, you might want to get legal advice about whether you are telling them the right thing! -
That is correct. It is no longer sold here as the cat food was poisoning our cats - causing lesions on the spinal cord from memory and there was a risk that even if they only imported the dog food, cats could still eat it incidentally.

Dogs Not Restrained In Moving Vehicles
Danois replied to Mystiqview's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm not sure I have explained it very well. There would be no difference in force due to the fact the distance is not very far and is closer than any slack in a restraint would exceed. -

If it rolls the same thing applies - there is very limited space he can go into and it would be the same if he was restrained or unrestrained. Not sure why you are having so much issues understanding the whole spatial thing. There is physically no way my dog can leave the back seat area - might be different story for you with multiple small dogs. And there is not too much risk of rolling your car doing 60km on inner city streets... -
Dogs Not Restrained In Moving Vehicles

Actually it will - based on the size of the dog the worst he can do it be thrown against the back of the front seats. He cannot go over them or through the middle - simply not enough space. If he was in a harness with sufficient length to turn around etc then if the brakes were slammed on he would end up in the exact same place. But hey - what do I do. Not like I have ever seen my dog in the back of my car and the respective space/ distances. -

I would not a) cite a vet website as a reliable source of interpretation of a law and b) cite the SMH article as it actually also incorrect. The RTA has confirmed in writing that there is no law and it only recommends people restrain for safety reasons. -
Dogs Not Restrained In Moving Vehicles

Then feel free to get a great dane in the back of your neck if you have to break suddenly. :) Well luckily for me my dog is trained to lie down in a vehicle without the need to restrain - especially given the fact that any harness that allows him to be able to move comfortably would have the same effect. -

Despite the number of times this comes up on DOL - people keep perpetuating the myth it is the law to restrain. There is no law that says you have to restrain your dog in the back of a car. -
My friend's 9 year old Dane recently had her eye removed and has adapted well. Google Honey the Great Dane's blog and there are posts there about it.

Perhaps you are feeding too much? I fed Canidae for ages without any issues like this. Canidae is grain free so higher fat and protein and thus you need to feed less. I fed about 1/3 less than a food with grain.

Check your road rules - as it is illegal to ride a bike on a road while leading a dog or having one tethered to you.

If pet insurance, on average, paid for itself many times over, the companies would all go broke. The people who come out ahead are quick to tell their stories. I suspect there are lots of people who pay year after year and never make a claim. These people aren't so quick to speak up. A company that has been good is likely to turn difficult if word comes down from on high that the're running in the red and need to reduce payouts. Well yes Captain Obvious! Pet Insurance is no different than health, car, contents insurances etc. I've had my car and home contents insured for 17 years and never made a claim on either but it is there for piece of mind in case I need to. Insurance companies can't just reduce payouts - if your claim is within the parameters of the policy then it needs to be paid. If they don't then there is the ombudsman to help resolve.

Merle Danes used to be on the main register and a few year back this was changed to only allow them to be limited registered. I believe there was a recent approach to the ANKC to have this reversed without any luck.

And dehydrated can be a better source as the water has been taken out of it so the percentage is pure meat and not meat plus water.

I have a 60kg male and he has about 3-4 cups of dry max and a couple of chicken wings a day. ETA - this is a grain free food.

Carmel is gorgeous. I was there not that long ago and noticed a lot of dogs. I love my trips to New York - purebred dogs everywhere! -
Getting shirty because no one replies in 13 minutes!! Capstar kills the live fleas on the dog. If you're already using a monthly treatment then capstar every day you see live fleas.

Trade it in for the new car!! Someone is going to be cursing me in a few days when they see the dog hair on the back of the rear seats!
