Reminder - Always Keep Dogs Secured In Cars.
Danois replied to CrazyCresties's topic in General Dog Discussion
I scares me sh*tless everytime I see this, and I see it too frequently There was even the occasion when I turned up to training at DogsWest and someone's dog leapt out of the back of their ute just as they arrived and was left hanging by its neck! Luckily it was grabbed quickly and let down and seemed ok. Secure your dog safely, preferably in a crate if on the back of a ute - or in a crate or harness if inside your car - it's not hard You clearly have never tried to secure a 65kg Great Dane in a car then. -
Wobblers is also seen in Danes. This is a useful article: http://www.greatdanelady.com/articles/wobblers_syndrome_by_dr_wittles.htm

Current Regs do not say animals are a prohibited prize. Prohibited prizes are: • tobacco products in any form • firearms or ammunition • prohibited weapons • the provision of cosmetic surgery or other similar procedure the main purpose of which is to improve personal appearance, and • liquor prizes more than 20 litres Money over stated limits dependent on promotion type.

I'd be pretty pissed off if someone decided to take it upon themselves to pick up my dog and groom it. I appreciate your attention are well placed but you have no idea on the dog's history - maybe there is a reason for the current condition. If you touch it then better hope nothing happens as you will be legally liable.

Dry Dog Food Recommendation Needed

Also might be useful to point out the link is to a US site and might not actually cover Australian made foods. -
Jumping Into Raw - Advice Needed!
Danois replied to Lexi-Taj's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
There is a story about a husky I think who bloated after being shown on a hot day and then given an ice block to cool down. There is some logic to the theory - sudden change in temperature could cause a spasm and that could be enough to start a bloat episode. -
Love to know how a raw feeder gets the calcium:phosphorous ratio needed for a growing giant breed right! It is not all about protein: fat.

So, you caught the "dog fighters" then? Otherwise, how can you be sure the dog wasn't just mauled by another dog in a non-dog fighting scenario? Until police catch dog fighters and all other scenarios can be ruled out, do you think it wise to state as a fact (as you have above) that some are being taken for dog fighting? Actually 3 guys are currently under investigation for it in the Beenleigh area. A neighbour had seen them pull up and dump the dog and got their registration number. Yes there is a lot of hysteria about it and some of the stories are bull, but I don't think people should be totally in denial about it all. Umm - if you work for the police then you should know that you should not be disclosing information about current police investigations. Sure fire way of giving a defence lawyer an avenue for attack too. Seriously astounded.

Agree. Stick to what has been proven to work. For that advice, go to your breeder and/or those experienced raising giant breed pups. Get it wrong and you're looking at potential disaster Hell yes! Raw diets and giant breed puppies is a recipe for disaster.

Tactfully Suggesting She Take Her Dog To The Vet...
Danois replied to dog geek's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Stay out of her business is my suggestion. You've commented to her and she has told you her response and its clear the dog is seeing a vet. -

Might want to check where Applaws is made - my understanding is that it is a product imported from the UK. -
Might want to google this one on Snopes - it has been doing the rounds for years.

I had a dog with this - it was masked by the Pred and Imuran which was treating the IM poly arthritis. Stress free was good but as I knew it was just a matter of time for my boy (he was not even 2) I made sure he got enjoyment from life. I can't help with recovery case sorry.

I know the Dane in the background - it's the gorgeous and always up for a cuddle Chilli - http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=41343. She is first harlequin to get her Grand Champ title in AU.

Could A Breeder Successfully Sue For This ?
Danois replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
Fraud = criminal. Requires an intention to deprive. Misrepresentation = civil. Simply requires someone to be mislead or deceived or likely to be. Intention of person is irrelevant. Police would not be interested in the ad. They would tell you to go take civil action under the Competition and Consumer Law. Fraudsters don't go to jail for misrepresenting things - they go for defrauding someone. -
Our GSD when I was growing up would sneak on to a bed when we went out. She always gave herself away as she'd leave a large stone under the pillow!

All collars carry the same risk of having a paw caught or caught on a fence if you choose to leave a dog unsupervised with a collar on. The fact it was a chain collar is irrelevant.

Maybe ask if you can buy one? We used to sell them if people really didn't want to buy the food. Might be worth a try? Corporate Pet Barns and Pet Stocks probably can't (can only sell "approved" items" but franchises or independents might :) Im naughty. I give away Advance bins with other brands coz my customers ask so nicely and it makes me feel good. Plus the Mars rep is not very nice. She looks down on us because we don't stock the full range of Mars products. Premiums are not for resale.

Depends what sorts - have a look at D & D Coats on FB. Great coats and many happy buyers.

V.i.p. Natures Goodness Grainfree Dryfood
Danois replied to Frenchfry's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Jess - you seem desperate to compare the AU pet food market to the US one when very different regulations apply. If you want to become properly informed so you can give advice which is not alarmist and is actually correct then I would recommend you read the Australia Standard in the manufacture and labelling of pet food which is made here and which is also imported into the country. It is AS 5812. -
Canidae grain free is inappropriate for a growing giant breed! Have you seen the protein levels??

Hi There is not one that I have ever come across. I'd suggest joining Ozzie Danes group on Facebook. There are only a handful of Dane owners on this forum these days.
