My little girl's one vice (12 month BC) is that she does exactly this - jumps up to give you kisses, is WAY too exuberant for her and our own good. If you turn your back she continues to jump up and claw. I've found telling her to sit (have to keep facing her and fending her off) and then giving her attention once she does that is working quite well. I don't have to tell her any more, just raise my hand (sit signal, not to hit) and OH only has to tell her once and she does it. Visitors aren't a problem as she is quite reserved around everyone other than OH and me. Been a long road, but we are almost there - it was one of those things that was sooooo cute as a puppy, but not so much as a grown dog. Lesson one....... She wont sit, she wont stay she just wants to jump and lick and be overly exuberant and if well behaved and mannered Lola is around multiply it as she wants even more attention.. Lola is well behaved and for the most part obedient.. Problem child is just that.. She wont be doing it tomorrow.. she is of to the vets to get the bits out... peace for one evening at least..

Problem Child does this.. same age too... but the turning the back and walking away isnt working as she runs and body slams you.. so we time out and ignore until she is calm (never with this dog) 5YO has gone to school today with a black eye from a tail whack last night.. bloody dog... If someone can give us something that works, would be much appreciated...

Agree. Pups should still be with their mum and she still has so much to teach them... So when you say the two you havent sold does that mean the two that you do have are still with you?? if not they are far to young to be away from mum and litter mates...

Same here, same here.. But.. Since the dew has been on the grass and the girls have been run down the park with the wet grass for a hour every morning, she has to pee somewhere and is getting used to it.. Also gating off the bedrooms and corners has worked wonders - seem to be going outside more now.. until it rains

Oh gee where do I start?? :D Poor pup, so young so angry and in trouble already.. agree needs a behaviouralist.. GSDx Kelpie, not a mix I would have with small kids around, my girls were a little mouthy as pups but it was not tolerated, they were put into their place in the pack, loved, nutured and protected, but with strong and consistent discipline... This sounds like one for the DOL traniners and behaviour specialists... if all dosent work out surely you can help with your rescue work :D

What Type Of Gate Is Better - With Visability Or Not?
Doghouse replied to Kylie and the black Lab's topic in Puppy Chat
We have 6 odd foot colourbond gates and fences and the girls dont bark unless you come really close to the gates (we back onto a carpark), which for security is great.. The developer who is sizing up the strip we are in had the misfortune of looking through the gap in the gate late last week... Lola saw him LONG before he saw and heard her... When they are in the office with me and have full view of the street they bark like crazy at anything that moves... -
2 dogs, both with loads of energy, approximately every 2 hours is zoomies and i guess the half hour after I feed them they tend to go a little bezerk... The witching hour for is when we leave them alone unsupervised in the garage or house (wont do that again) and they tend to destroy whatever they can... last night it was 8 bags of mushroom compost, chicken manure, cow manure and organic mulch.. which has prompted me into gardening this weekend..

I have my girls on supermarket food, Pedigree ( I know I will get flamed, but they like it and it is all I can access) but they also eat 3 kilos of fresh top quality mince (with added eggs x 4) per week, brisket (lamb and beef) lamb shanks, beef bones, pasta, fresh blanched vegies and rice and any appropriate left overs and they are thriving... They also get the occassional pigs ear or chew bone to keep them entertained.. really whatever works for you should be fine as long as they are thriving... :D

That video makes me yearn for an obedience class in my suburb and for Lola or problem child to go... it also makes me yearn for time to do it....
-
We still feed about 2 meals a day, depending on if they have brisket or mince some mornings or left overs, but certainly 2 meals per day, usually breakfast is after walks to school or down to the post office or park which is mid to late morning and dinner is about 7.30ish.. I find with the two meals life is a little calmer and there are less fights over chew bones or toys... On the farm the dogs still only get one meal per day.. Our girls are 10 and 7 months are are still growing well..

Sorry to hear about your Douge.. We have one and we had mastiffs as well, sometimes they get a little to full on and can fall heavily, get up keep playing and none's the wiser, im with Nekbhet on that question Have had the Douge on the farm with cats eyes EMBEDDED in her paws and she is still trotting along without discomfort, high pain barrier, even higher love barrier, they are fantastic dogs. I hope your puppy gets better and keep us posted..

That 1st idea is brilliant. Not had this problem but will remember that just in case.Thanks.Elizabethan collars are awful.Makes me feel like choking thinking of them. What sort of dog do you have ? If I put this on either of my dogs it would have lasted all of 30 seconds.. (Staffy/Amstaff crosses)

Mine havent.. Bugger..

Lola cried, and cried and cried for about a week and then I was bad a relented and she now sleeps on the end of 5YO's bed. Problem child slept on the floor with Lola when she came home.. Now Lola would sleep through the second coming but Problem Child would be awake sorting the 5 horsemen of the Apocolypse out.. Takes time. You will get there..

WHEN i had a herb garden, that went along with the award winning small, beautiful garden i had three very hot chilli plants which in the course of problem childs arrival all were carted around the back yard as trophys when dug up and defolitated. She ate one of the fruit ONCE and has never ever touched them again (did not stop her digging around them though)..
-
Its a conspiracy I tell you.. Kids and Animals - always get sick or hurt themselves outside of normal working hours.. They tell you never to work with them ...
-
Lola had the collar, would have been lost without it. When problem child was 'chewing herself silly' on her stomach, we wacked it on again, she HATED IT but stopped her chewing herself bloody. Its worth the cost and it is re-usable.. Nothing worse than ripped stitches in the middle of the night...

Staffy Puppy Chasing ( Trying To Kill! Cat) Problems
Doghouse replied to RobbieRules's topic in Puppy Chat
My Staff & Kelpie/Amstaff crosses have a cantankerous 18 year old cat to deal with and she takes NO PRISONERS.. She just tells them what for and they back off.. backed up by a growling barking me that is... It might have to be pointed out that the cat is part of the pack but not to be played with... With a cross being both staff and kelpie the prey drive is high, but we have had to put the time and effort in to make sure that they know that it is NOT ACCEPTABLE... -
OH NO !! Sounds like one for Kavik or one of the other trainers on the site .. I would be putting this one under general or training to get the most coverage. I have no experience with GSD's but there are people in here that do.. Change post sites..

What Is The Best Way To Introduce Puppy To New People?
Doghouse replied to cassie's topic in Puppy Chat
I agree with the above, just keep everything low key when visitors come, my girls tend to go a bit nutz with OH when he comes around and his best friend (both were around in the first few weeks), but for everyone is else it is ignore the dog for 5 minutes and then then they can be welcomed. Stopped the anxiety weeing that Lola had and Problem child jumping up on visitors. Just keep it very calm...it pays off because then when you are out on your walks she wount want to bound up to anyone and give them a loving welcome.. We had a Saint on the farm, not ours the bosses and she was not given the benefit of this and even half grown, she would bowl people over - not a good look.. -
Both the girls come in at night. They can do what they like indoors and have access to all windows and points of entry and bark accordingly. I would not have them out at night, god knows what could happen, particularly with some dogs going 'missing' around here lately and then there can be some nasty neighbours. The girls are more secure within the pack environment indoors and dont bark unless there is a very, very good reason. Bring him in.. gate or crate him.. he will love you for it...
-
Hang in there, it will get better.. My girls carry on when I leave but settle (they tear lounges apart) but they are fairly quiet about it.. It will get better
-
he he Certainly sounds like the 16-20 week stage of NAUGHTY, NAUGHTY Puppy.. Might be the moon, my problem child 18 week old is doing exactly the same and then some.. Hang in there, with guidance and discipline they settle by 6 months (depending on the breed - what breed is he??), if not you are in for some fun..
