We did similar things here, although neither of them have worked out how to come back in Getting him used to the door on his back is a big thing I think. The problem we have is when they try to go straight after one another, and the one at the back has it flick back in their face!!

hehehe I have used one at the dog wash but it says that to keep your mars coat king in top condition that you should only use it on a clean coat so mister sinky will get a wash this weekend then we will take the coat king out of the packet!!!! Yes I am in lurv with it and it is still shiny and new in the packet..... Hehe fair enough!! We'd just bathed two days ago luckily Busterlove its sort of strips out the undercoat, and what's good on Finn is that if it meets too much resistance (eg. a knot or matt) it actually has little blades that will cut it out
-
He's a poodle x cavalier. He's pretty much non shedding so it seems to be really helpful for getting rid of all the dead hair and the matts that occur. It seems that it will be an improvement, but will keep an eye on it

Cassie we discovered it at the petacular up here the other weekend too. Such a worthwhile purchase!! Sezy I can't believe you haven't tried it yet I had to do it straight away
-
I tried it on Cal later last night :D Love it! Sleek is exactly the right word - it worked really well on him. In fact I'm sure its more designed for coats like his, Finn has crazy-mutt-fur that its doing the trick on, but Cal was satisfying Cassie it is soooo exciting, enjoy!! ETA: :D cassie if I get a bucket full off Finn I can only imagine what you'll end up with!! :p
-
Hehe no, with Finn its a bit hard to tell - he's just a black fluffball so I'm not sure visually there would be much difference Might have to take a photo of the pile of fur when I finish though - bucket is half full now!
-
Ok it came in the mail this afternoon - it is my new favourite thing :D Have only started, but already have a third of a bucket of hair!! Am giving him a break now, as he was inexcusably knotty and its taking a while. But its working!! :D :p I'm so excited, his coat feels soooo much nicer, thinner and smoother and no knots!! yay!! Ok little brag over now, just had to share. Woohoo for Mars King!

Thanks poodle wrangler that's really helpful. He's clipped shorter than in my sig, but it has been a month or two now so maybe we clip him again. We do keep him brushed, but admittedly when he's shorter he doesn't matt/knot as easily so we probably haven't done it as often as we should. Perhaps if we chop him, keep up the brushing and try the shampoo and if that doesn't help we could try antihistamines. Thanks!

I did think perhaps allergy - is there anything you can do for it?

For the last few weeks Finn has been really really itchy, poor puppy, and we can't figure out why. Its not fleas - he's fully treated and there are none visible - although he sometimes does that 'chewing' thing at his skin. We thought it might be because he was dirty - dust etc and he was overdue for a bath - but a hydrobath has made no difference at all. Whats strange is that there is no visible symptoms at all - no redness, no flaky skin, no welts or anything. Any suggestions as to what it could be and how we can help him? Its mainly on the sides of his body and sometimes round his face. Cal is itching a bit - perhaps more than normal - but no way near as much as Finn. Any help muchly appreciated

I only just noticed the message under your avatar and couldn't believe it I'm so very sorry.

We've had Finn for about 10 months now (since a pup) and the play sessions with Cal have gradually increased over time. This is the best I've seen yet, OH and I couldn't stop cracking up!! Highlights to watch for are Finn running into the camera, and Cal falling off the couch

This has been a really interesting read. At the moment we're trialling mixing Bonnie with their current food (royal canin and eukanuba respectively) and that seems to be going ok. They're eating it, which is a good start (especially for fussy cal) and poos seem ok. OH noticed a funny one the other day but nothing too major. Will see how it goes - definitely better cost wise. Also signed up for the challenge thing on the optimum site which gives us a cash back offer for our first bag so may try that out too.
-
Popped into Pet Cafe this afternoon and had a useful chat with the guy in there. He suggested possibly using Bonnie to bulk up our existing food, which may be a good compromise and might help enough financially wise. Got a small pack to see if they'll eat it to start with! Will see how we go with that.

This thread has been a fantastic help. Really appreciate all the thoughts and advice. I think I might look at either Bonnie or Optimum. Cal is a bit fussy so that will come into it too!
-
Wow it really is a lot cheaper!! Why is there that much of a difference?
-
Ah ok cool. We're not far from the Corinda one - nearly all our pet supplies come from there!
-
I think our Pet Cafe may sell Bonnie in smaller packaging - just in plastic I think they do it themselves? A very vague recollection though, I'll go check it out. When I know they'll eat it it'll be more worthwhile to get the 20kgs anyway I'm sure. If it works out cheaper and is decent its sounding good!

Thanks Helen - its really great hearing people's actual experiences with the food. Good to hear that dogs are doing well on the ones we are considering.

Wow I go out for the night and come back to so many useful suggestions and great advice - thanks!! I'm pretty sure I have seen Bonnie in our local Pet Cafe so that may be a goer, or from the supermarket sounds like Optimum or Purina will probably be best. I hadn't considered doing a DIY raw diet, might consider that too. Thanks so much for all the advice you've all been a fantastic help!!
-
Awesome, thanks guys!! Will check out the website goldielover - every bit does indeed help so if we can get a good offer all the better!
-
Haven't heard of Optimum - how does it compare price-wise? Oh actually I may have seen it - is it sort of silver and in the supermarket? Don't particularly enormous, very stinky poos! maybe we need to avoid supercoat!
-
cool thanks for the feedback We used to feed our family labrador purina one and as far as I remember he did well on it - though I didn't really know what to look for then!
-
We feed both dogs a dry food only diet (with chews and treats). Currently Cal eats Royal Canin Mature, and Finn eats Eukanuba Puppy. Financially we're finding this a little hard to maintain at the moment - things will be much better in a few months time so we were considering temporarily changing them to a cheaper food in the short term. So I was wondering what the pick of the supermarket foods is? We were looking at either Supercoat or Purina One - or is there another out there thats better? Any advice greatly apreciated, thanks!

Aah right thanks ;)
