Getting Glue Out Of My Dogs Coat
Malamum replied to leopuppy04's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I was going to suggest the orange oil product too. -
Probably because people give their dogs the cooked ham bone or only give them all the fatty crappy bits of the ham they don't eat themselves. I would also assume that leg ham like we have at Christmas is probably too salty for dogs aswell. My dogs don't get a great deal of pork but do get raw pork bones or mince from time to time. Ham is not part of their diet at all.
-
My two go nuts over any type of tinned fish. They generally get tinned mackeral and the homebrand sardines in oil. Both of these are quite cheap. I’ve never splurged on fresh fish for them.
-
I also feed pork and have never had any issues with it.
-
Just give him the whole thing - don't seperate the meat from the bone. I also don't worry about washing or cleaning anything that I give my dogs. I buy human grade meat so there should be no need.
-
I also just feed a bit of everything and don’t worry about set percentages as it all evens out in the long run. In regards to veggies mine get about a tablespoon or so 4 or 5 times a week. On the days that they don’t get veggies they get yoghurt or cottage cheese instead.

"best" Brand Of Dog Food For Your Pet?
Malamum replied to happystarz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've been feeding BARF for a few years but before that I used to feed Innova. I think it is one of the best quality commercial foods, however my dilema was about where it came from. As far as I know you can only get it from Pet's Paradise and I used to hate giving them my money. -
My dogs get pretty much most parts of the chook. They have wings, necks, back, drumsticks, thigh pieces, half a chicken and they've even had carcasses which are mostly bone. When it comes to wings they give it one or two big crunches and then tend to swallow the whole thing - they are big dogs though.
-
I also feed drumsticks. For the chicken part of their diet I get the following from the chicken shop • backs • necks • Casserole pieces –includes drumsticks, wings and thigh pieces. For some reason buying out of the tub called casserole pieces is cheaper per kilo amount that buying these items individually.
-
When I first got my dog I read about the BARF diet on a number of forums and although the principle behind it made sense to me it just seemed too hard. Being a very new dog owner I was also scared off a bit by the people who said you would kill your dog if you didn’t feed exact percentages and ratios of different types of food. After being a dog owner for a little while longer I started to think that it really shouldn’t be all that hard to feed a dog a natural diet as I manage to feed myself fine. I got the Billinghurst book, made the switch and have never looked back. That was about 3 years ago.

Can I Feed My Dog (raw) Lamb Shanks?
Malamum replied to squeak's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My general rule is ALL cooked bones are bad and that anything raw is ok. -
Can I Feed My Dog (raw) Lamb Shanks?
Malamum replied to squeak's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Mine love lamb shanks and I keep an eye out for when they are on special. -
We generally give ours the majority of their daily food intake at night which is food that need to go in their bowls. In the morning we give them what I would describe as a snack - a bone or something that they can pick up and take outside to eat. I do mix it up sometimes though. I had a couple of massive lamb necks in the frezzer so they got those for breaky this morning and will only get a very tiny dinner tonight.

I would say that her poo's are soft because the ingredients are crap. I would imagine they would have lots of artificial colours and preservatives etc.... It would be similar to a person who is used to eating a very healthy diet with no fast food binging on something like Macca's - they'd probably get the runs too. If you want something good for her teeth you can't go past a good raw bone - which are also nice and cheap but much better for them.
-
I agree. I would buy a crate that will fit him when he is fully grown and just section it off until he grows into it.
-
I feed BARF so my dogs do get a bit of variety but it's not to prevent boredom I just want to give them different meat sources. One day they'll have all chicken, the next they will get some beef, the next some lamb, the next some fish etc etc.

What Type Of Yoghurt?
Malamum replied to spoilt lab lives here's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I also generally get the Jalna natural yoghurt but bought a tub of the Dairy Farmers stuff this week as I noticed they had a 1kg tub. I don't think the brand really matters, I just make sure I get the plain variety and one with no artificial sweeteners. -
Hey - where did the other thread go? I was halfway though reading it and then it wouldn't let me go to the next page and now I can't find it again.
-
I bag all my rmb’s up in individual serving sizes. I do the vegie mix in bulk too and also bag that up in individual serving sizes. I do not mix veggies and rmb’s together before I freeze them. Each night I just grab whatever I want for the next day out the frezzer to defrost.

Frozen Barf "patties" Vs Buy Own Ingredients
Malamum replied to samoyedman's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I just buy all my own stuff as the pre-made patties are so expensive. When we boarded the dogs for a week with our vet, they sold the patties so I asked them to feed them that instead of kibble. I actually never saw what they looked like myself. -
Thanks cavNrott, once I finish the big tub of human glucosamine I just bought, I'll look into the Joint Guard.
-
Is this a product specifically for dogs and where do you buy it from?
-
I've been feeding my dogs raw food for about 3 years and I have no intention of switching back. What I have trouble believing is that it's impossible to feed your dogs a nutritionally adequate diet if you don't feed them extruded pellets. I manage to feed myself just fine by eating a wide variety of healthy foods so I don't see why it should be any different for my dogs.

This one is never the puppy's fault. It's the human's for leaving the valuable item where the puppy could get it.
-
It can. I would just discuss it with your breeder to see what their thoughts are.
