So very sorry for your loss, what an amazing life you gave her after a very rough start... some things are just meant to be. Big hugs to you

In the past I have worked for people who would be approaching these numbers of dogs, with 2 different breeds. They have several dogs in the house as well as having dogs in the kennels, and pups are born both in the house and in the kennels. These people are renowned world-wide for the amazing temperaments on their dogs, one of which is a breed that is not usually noted for good temperament. Whilst they have lots of dogs, they are all very well-cared for and dogs from this kennel have fulfilled many roles - they have produced many top winning show dogs (locally & internationally) and many, many well-loved, well-adjusted family companions, including therapy dogs. Would I personally have this many dogs? Not in a pink fit, but that does not mean that these dogs are unloved, neglected, unsocialised breeding machines. Numbers, or lack thereof, do not necessarily mean good or bad animal husbandry or ownership...

Sorry for your loss Pesh - what a great little dog he was!

 What awesome words, and so very true... Gayle, I am so sorry again for your loss. It's the little things that get you the most, isn't it... like Benson & your hubby's nightly TV ritual. Too many lovely dogs gone just recently, and now I have to add another...we had to give our old girl her wings this morning. She was only with us for a short while, and we told her every day how much we loved her. Have reposted her story from my Rainbow Bridge post below: Hugs to all who've lost a friend xxx

Today we had to give our gorgeous old girl her wings, her back legs just couldn't cope anymore. Mushi was brought in for boarding earlier this year, as her elderly owner was unfortunately taken into full time care and her owner's only relative (her niece) was allergic to dogs. It was to be a long-term situation, until another home was found for her. However, it's hard to find a home for an larger oldie with wobbly legs and the odd incontinence issue and so the decision was made to bring Mushi down into the house to live out the rest of her life as part of our little pack. She settled in like she'd always been here, and the other dogs adored her, especially Buzz Whippet - the two of them had a very special relationship and Mushi would lick his face with a gorgeous Akita flat-eared, squinty smile on her face She brought us so much pleasure, and was truly one of the sweetest natured dogs that has ever lived. She spent most of her days asleep on her bed in the family room, but at night when Mr P-F & I were sitting down she'd shuffle over as fast as her legs would carry her and spend the rest of the evening as close to us as she could get I'll miss our evening cuddles the most, I think. How does a house with 5 other dogs in it feel so empty? She was part of our family for only a few months but gave us enough love for a lifetime. We love you sweetheart, you will be missed forever xoxox I am heartbroken.

They are 3 weeks and in Victoria. They will start to get really cute over the next few weeks! The darker one is the one that looks like the one I may be getting so far... And there will be lots of puppy cuddles (i.e socialization for pup! ) Oh, so very cute!!! Have never seen a baby Brittany before... can't wait to meet her.

Maybe try a sock then wrap over the top with vet wrap for extra padding and to keep it on? That stuff stays on really well... Poor Tobester, give him a hug from us...

Crap, Ptolomy!! We had a bit of flooding too , our gutters at the front of the house near the front door can't cope with a sudden heavy downpour (normal rain/showers is OK) and it all backwashes in along the eaves and down the inside of the front door into the hallway - it's a complete pain in the a**e, we have to do a mad rush for towels etc to stop it running right through the lounge room etc. OH called a roof plumber today and he's going to come and install a couple more downpipes to see if that relieves some of the pressure on the gutters... On the plus side, the kennels are lovely and dry!! LOL!

Didn't really affect our part of Canning Vale, more hassles from the rain, not the tornado :D It's abit windy now, but the rain's backed off for a while...

Thinking of you & Ruby RS

I LOVE Steve! I can see where you are coming from Ptolomy - he's not a touchy-feely, hearts and flowers, gushy type of guy but he is seriously one of the most genuinely interested (and knowledgeable!)vets when it comes to his patients, he is straight-forward & to the point but is extremely caring and has a huge amount of heart. I've been using Applecross since 1994 and whilst all the guys there are terrific, Steve is the only one I'll see if I have something more than a run-of-the-mill matter. Buzzy LOVES his Uncle Steve - Steve will sit on the floor and Buzz jumps straight in his lap We sent one of our boarding customers to him last week - 12 month old Rotti girl with intermittent lameness, getting progressively worse. Unfortunately the outcome for this little girl wasn't good - her elbows were destroyed with arthritis and so the tough decision was made Her owner rang to let us know a day or so ago, and to thank us for putting him onto Steve - he said he was the best vet he'd ever dealt with... even though the outcome wasn't favourable, Steve explained everything clearly, gave him some options and treated him with the utmost kindness, respect & compassion the whole way through. I honestly can't sing his praises high enough He's always made himself accessible to me, I can ring just to ask his opinion or advice on something and I never get the impression he's too busy to talk to me, or not interested. I really enjoy talking to him, he is a wealth of knowledge. Good luck RS, everything crossed for some answers for you & Ruby!

Quite a holiday Zinger's having!! Big congrats, you must be stoked. How long's he away for?

Thanks Amypie, you'd think I would have figured that out myself.... doh! Still, should be glad I managed to figure out how to preview the first posts by myself...

Happy Birthday to your kids!! My gorgeous little man turns 4 on the 24th :D, my nephew turned 4 on the 4th, my sister's B'day is the 29th and looks like my new little nephew may be born today or tomorrow so there's another May baby... I feel your pain! I'm still having issues with the 'last unread post' button - I'm finding it's only working on threads that I have read since the new format came in, so for example if I haven't read a thread since a couple of days ago, then try & click the "first unread post' grey arrow, it takes me to the very first post again? If it's a thread I've checked today on the new format all is hunky-dory.... go figure?

*deep breath* First & foremost, I am a hopeless, unreformable dog nut! Have had at least one dog around all my life - learnt to walk holding onto my grandparent's dog Got my first registered pedigree show dog (Border Collie) in 1991 Bred & exhibited Border Collies from 1994 - 2001 with reasonable success - lost my last BC boy (and my heart dog) on NYE 2009 ;) Currently own 2 x Dogues De Bordeaux, 1 French Bulldog, 1 Toy Poodle, 1 Whippet and our most recent addition, a geriatric Akita girl boarding with us who found herself in need of a new home Hoping to expand the Whippet population ASAP! Exhibited many other breeds of dog since then, for myself and for others Put a CD on my first BC boy, and attempted agility, but quickly figured out my talents lay elsewhere - haven't ruled out going back to it one day...maybe with Buzz Whippet? Have worked in kennels since 1990 (some good, some NOT so good..) Currently owner/operator of our own boarding kennels along with my ever-loving hubby, who was a 'dog show brat' from birth ;) Hubby is on one of the sub-committees of DogsWest Love my crazy, doggy-oriented life :D

Got my leads today, they are totally gorgeous! Now just have to wait for a show puppy to use 'em on... I got 4 - wine/silver, coral/silver, black/silver and my fave is toffee, ivory & silver - LOVE this one! Will be back for more at some point I am sure...
