So very true! Sometimes when I am witnessing my goldens in all their glorious "goldie-ness" I think "There are people who will loath you for these shenanigans my darlings" But me? I coo and squeal and take pictures because its just so endearing and everything I ever wanted! :D

I got bubby at eleven months old and he was the easiest dog to live with. I got him from a fantastic breeder. He was toilet trained, never touched anything that didn't belong to him and is just a joy to live with. He was /is just so easy! That said I also raised a puppy who is a lot more work than my boy but she is my husband 's dream dog. Bubby is very much his own person (and very lovely) but has some very specific traits whereas Bitty is hubby 's ultimate dog and everything he wants.

After having my two I like the kind of dog who is energetic and over excited but can channel that energy into training. I don't train formally but I do train every day at home so I love a dog who will want to do heaps of stuff but has an off switch. Also am fond of super cheerful types

Yes, I realise that! But I think *I* like the good looks of the labs and have a perception that they may be more similar to a golden than other breeds! I didn't say it was rational! I just said thats my perception hence no lab for me cuz it would not be fair or good for labby!
-
*sigh* Completely off topic but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a lab! I just worry I will compare them to the golden because of perceived similarities (in my eyes) and it will be unfair!
-
OMG he is booootiful!!!!!
-
OMG MrsD that sounds soooo cute!!! I used a peg on Bitty and that worked for her.
-
Bitty thanks you for all your kind words! Bitty will work for anything, even veggies! Mean Mummy and DaDa always have her on a diet so a girl has to find ways to earn extra food! Bitty will throw in cuddles and golden kisses for free with every job!
-
She's a good little worker! I can vouch for her!
-
oh you poor thing! Don't be too hard on yourself! With my puppy one thing I learnt was to NEVER EVER let her out of my sight! I didn't find taking out every hour helped but I found keeping an eye out for any suspicious behaviour and then pouncing on it and taking her outside really helped. Not the easiest thing to do as sometimes it was a false alarm but it eliminates accidents and drills it into their heads that toileting is an outside activity only. My motto was "Never trust the puppy". It was a lot of work and I was chained to her but it made her wonderfully reliable with toilet training!

Hey guys, WOuld be really grateful if one of the breeders could answer a question for me. I have read the lab breed standard etc etc But I would love to know just in general laymans terms, what kind of head is a ideal lab head? I have seen some labs with really skinny faces (am not really fan of that kidn of face) and some with the nice big, puppy looking faces (HUGE fan of that face!) Which is the correct face? Hehehe excuse the language! I always refer to my goldens heads as "fat faces" much to the horror of my breeder who is very proud of their heads and tells me to stop calling it a fat face (I am a fan of fat faces!)!

:D Hehehe I dont count anymore! But we dont forgo anything for their sake. The rule is that everyone has to have their basic needs and medical care met for good health and well being, dogs and humans alike. Anything on top of that for both dogs and humans will depend on the family budget. No one is more important than anyone else. I think thats fair!

Mr Bubitty and I also worry about this constantly. Bubby is turning 6 and Bitty is 2. They adore each other, never had a cross word and I wonder what she will cope if he leaves first. She has always been spoilt by him and she worships the ground he walks on. I have seperated them the moment she got home. They are not allowed to spend all day with each other when I am at work. I even walk them seperately every afternoon. I dont think the seperation works though. She just adores him. When I come home the first thing she does is runs up to him and smooches him. Mr Bubitty and I often split up to spend one on one time with the dogs. They have fun with us but as soon as they are released Bitty runs to Bubby and has to have a big cuddle/snuggle with him. I hate to think of what it will be like if one day she goes looking and her beloved Brother is not there anymore. Bubby is fine! He is very cruisy and although fond of Bitty I dont think he is too fussed about her.

Oh you have the most gorgeous Labs Tapua! If I ever change breeds!!!!!

Far! Very very very far! I try to outdo myself every year! I am currently planning a menu for Bubby's birthday in August. :D

My Oscar gets all offended if hubby gives me a kiss or a cuddle and gives him a right telling off. Bitty gets offended when Mr Bubbitty and I cuddle! She always has to muscle in and cuddle her Da Da as well. Sometimes we block her off and she cries and peers at us! I can't help but snark at her and tell her "I am his true wife! You are nothing but a chubby four legged blonde!!!!! He dun love you!!!!! Get over it!" She gets EVER so offended the poor poppet!
-
OMG This is so like Mr Bubbitty who had the gall to say to me one day "You know, if I change all the words "baby" into "Bitty" and "dancing" into "bouncing", all songs can be made to be relevant to the Bitty"
-
kekekek don't get me started on the Vietnamese tragic love songs I sing to Bubby as a demonstration of my love! Last time I did it, Bitty ran into the study and hid with her Da Da. Bubby, bless him, my faithful devoted boy, sat by my feet with the most tortured expression that said "I am your loyal Bubby Dawg so I will sit through this until the very bitter end!" RubyStar: Just becareful that any new man you meet won't steal your girls from you! Bitty was supposed to be MINE as well!!! I take her in, feed her, clothe her! All that devotion and she runs off with my husband! Wench!

Nawwwww that is toooo cute! Bitty is hubby's "Baby Girl". He will say "Baby Girl" and she will launch herself at him. He also refers to himself as her "Da Da". It is so cute to listen to him wash her paws when she gets muddy. I hear snippets like "Now give Da Da your right paw. Don't sulk Baby Girl. All this mud on your face! Da Da dun love muddy pups." Usually followed by "All done now. Give Da Da a kiss."

Just had to share this cuz it was so so so cute! Bitty is Mr Bubbitty’s dog! Even though I think the world of her and we have our own connection, the love of her life is Mr Bubbitty. I was on a date with Mr Bubbitty last week. Lovely date, we were enjoying a meal and were probably mid way through the meal, Mr Bubbitty pointed to his lamb chop and said “Oh can you just imagine the Beedoon’s gorgeous muzzle nibbling at this chop” Then he stopped, pulled a face and said “Damn! I promised myself I was going to go on this entire date and not bring her up!” Hehehe this is because I often tease him that he can’t seem to go for half an hour without bringing up his Bitty. Lucky I also have my own love affair with the Bubby! Anyone else here have to compete with a dog for their OH’s affections?

Harper GD, please don’t feel too badly. I want to share my experience with you which I hope will make you feel better. 5 years ago I got my first dog Bubby. He was 11 months old and he was perfect. I did have some “OMG what have I done” moments with him on the first day but he was/is the second greatest love of my life. About a year after that I decided to get a puppy. Was very excited, posted on Dol about it all the time, got pick of the litter, told all my friends etc. I was on cloud nine and was so excited to bring him home. I flipped out when he went home. I wanted my life to reset to what it was before this puppy. I wanted it to be just myself and Bubby again. I was in tears and simply did not enjoy this pup. So I showed up on my breeders doorstep in tears. She cried, I cried, it was terrible! I gave the puppy back but felt very bad and very guilty about it for a long time. A years after that I decided I was ready for another pup. I was older and wiser and more pup worldly! Along came Bitty (from the same breeder). And boy did I love her. LOVE LOVE LOVE! Everything she did was divine even though she was a NUTTER! She was mad, bad Bitty! Nothing like my boy Bubby! But none of it mattered. She just made me so happy and even though I was waking up at 5.30am to train her, it was easy! It felt easy! She made me so happy! I was bounding through all the early wake ups and training and puppy monitoring! I thrived on it and breezed through it! I enjoyed her so much I even forgot to ring my breeders to update them! They chased me down and said “We didn’t hear from you so we were scared that you had, had a full meltdown and were too embarrassed to rehome this pup back to us!” I think timing is everything. Don’t be hard on yourself. You will miss Harper and you will judge yourself for a while after this. But just know there is another dog out there and sometimes, despite best intentions, things don’t quite work out. *hugs*
