  1. Mother Moocher I think I will need to teach a hold while I am fiddling with the container etc for at least 30 seconds. She can hold without me touching her for about a min but she will drop it as soon as I touch the item. I wonder if it is possible to teach her to keep the handle in her mouth and not drop it no matter what. Hmm another train of thought, what if I put the food in a small takeaway container and then container in open basket? Less fiddling that way and uncontaminated food.........
  2. Just received email responses from the first group of people who I would try this trick on! Overwhelming response was “OMG I love that Bitty! Of course I’d eat it!” Now I need to teach that trick!
  3. Nooooo I don't think any of your gorgeous labbies would eat the food!!!!! You should put a bow tie on them and make em do this as well!!! Sooo handsome!!!!!!
  4. Bitty enjoys: *nice juicy beef chuck bone, *pureed custard apple frozen in a cup (great for trashing cup and eating treat at same time, I also make frozen banana peanut butter cups), *a raw egg, inside an egg carton that has been taped shut. Sometimes I give her a hard paper tube with a boiled egg squished in it. *a big carboard box, that is taped shut, with another box inside, and another box inside that and another one, with a piece or roast meat in the smallest box at the end. *a piece of water melon with rind and all *Empty paper tube cartons filled with fruit salad and with the lid screwed back on *A quarter of a raw coconut
  5. Ohh I hve seen tonnes of those in Victoria's Basement! THANK GUYS!!!! So many options! So would you guys eat it if I use the lidded containers suggested?
  6. Ohh I like the look of that second one! It looks like Tupperware and looks light!
  7. Thanks guys for the idea about the lidded basket! FANTASTIC idea!!!!! Will hunt for one! I just hope I can get a small one that’s not to big or heavy! GR: She’s a definite non drooler! I make them wait for their soupy noodles, Bubby drools all over his bowl but she’s nice and clean!
  8. None of these people own dogs but they have all kissed her on the face at some stage! Hmm Gretel, you have given me an idea to wrap each canape lightly in cling wrap (or grease proof paper) and each guest can just unwrap and take the plastic off! Less room for being squeamish!
  9. Hi Folks A bit of a silly question! We are planning to renovate the kitchen which means the house will be much nicer and we can entertain more often. I have been training Bitty to carry a basket around and eventually want to work on her offering canapés from a basket to guests. It will of course be a very clean new basket, lined appropriately and the only part that she is biting will be the handle. It is not the training basket that I use to train her. Would you eat food from this basket? I just want to gauge to see if my guest will be ok with it! ETA: Bitty will be looking clean and she doesn't drool.
  10. I just couldn't and wouldn't do that, I have Danes mind you but I just can't see me accepting that from a dog. I'm really thankful we have him at this age because we are fit enough to carry him. Imagine if we were 75 and had him! It is the one mystery with him I have never been able to crack. His sister was trained and rewarded for getting in and gets in happily.
  11. I have never managed to get Bubby into the car! Not with roast meat, pie, cake anything! He is perfectly fine but will not get into the car so we carry him in. People often point and laugh at him and us!
  12. Oh Squeeeeeeee CW!!!! She sounds absolutely delightful!!!!!
  13. Yes I have often had to hold in pee for hours because one of them is asleep on my foot or arm!
  14. hey bub, if u do use comfortis please let me know how it goes. thanks Sure, although I will admit I am very hesitant about them now that I have them.
  15. I’ve bought a pack of Comfortis but am too scared to use it. I have also been reading up on it and am not sure about the side effects, especially since another Doler posted that her dog was pretty queasy on them.
  16. Colour is not too important to me. I like the light blond colour in goldens but I'm not too fussed about it. I will admit to wanting a dog with a beautiful face though and am VERY partial to a nice muzzle and a pretty face. I really don't think I would be happy with a golden with a snipey muzzle and my breeder was quite intent on picking me a pup with a pretty face since this was my great obsession!
  17. Ewwwwww that is just so so foul!!!!! GROSS!!!!!
  18. OMG CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D She is sooo adorable and boooooooooooooooooooooooooootiful!!!!!!
  19. Lucy's Mama this thread may make you feel better: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...=185840&hl=
  20. Is it even possible to get a Driftway puppy? I have heard great things about them and I'm thinking the puppy queue must go on forever!
  21. I started training when Bitty was 9 weeks. All the usual sit, stay, come, spin, paw, drop. I think at 10 weeks we started on "focus" with the clicker and getting her to balance food on her arms. At about 15 weeks I tried "shame" with the clicker and from then on I just tried to teach any trick that I found amusing while referring to a website which goes through these "Levels" of training that Aiden posted. At about 4 months she learnt to hold things in her mouth and now she can run out to pick up stuff for me at quite a long distance. I am contemplating taking her to our obedience club for a few sessions to see if she likes it but I've been told that its not that useful and not to bother. I don't trial or compete so its all about finding new and wacky things to challenge her with.
  22. Poor boy. To be dumped like that at his age. :nahnah:
  23. Both mine are wormed with sentinel spectrum every month. I don’t use a tick prevention because I don’t think we are in a high tick area. During the summer months I sometimes bomb them with a capstar once a week. I have just ordered a pack of Comfitis though to try and see whether it’s any good.
  24. Me too. I always said I would never have another Golden and definitely never a male one yet there is strangely a 10 month old siting in my backyard. Awww why would you say that! Can't ever have enough goldens You need another one!
  25. DeepImpact that is umm quite a diet your dad’s dog is on! ;) Sounds like she has a lovely life though!
