Is There Anyone Who Does Not Have A Heart Dog?
Bubitty replied to Bubitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
Tilly would you mind expanding on why you don’t think you love them as much as your Rotty. Is it a bond? A feeling? His personality? I hope you don’t mind me asking. -
We often see threads about heart dogs and I wonder if anyone here does not have one? Anyone have dogs that you honestly bond with equally? I always thought Bubby was the one. I truly did, I never thought any other dog could measure up to him. Then along came Bitty and while she is COMPLETELY different to Bubby, she really does tug at my heartstrings in her own Bitty Yum Yum way! Bubby is mellow and has this wonderful sense of calm and serenity about him. He is my rock and I am very much in love with him. I think I revere him a little and there is that touch of magic between us. He is very much “mine” and over the years it feels like we are equals. I depend on him for certain things. Bitty, I completely adore. She is my baby and we shared an entire puppyhood so I always want to protect her and make sure her world is a happy happy place. Bitty is my PERFECT golden! She is a glorious combination of sunshine and rainbows. She is my training buddy and my play buddy. While I don’t think I am her favourite person in the family (She has a very long winded love affair with my OH), we can play until the cows come home and just have so much fun together. This is something that Bubby and I don’t share. So anyone on here NOT have a heart dog?

What made you choose your favourite breed? I was drawn in by the Golden’s reputation as the perfect family pet. After some research on the golden I started reading Dol which initially did scare me off them as there was always a mention of digging/destruction etc. But I decided to go for it anyway and landed with Bubby when he was 11 months old! OMG He was perfect! To cut a long story short I just HAD to get one more! What do you love about them? EVERYTHING! I am partial to pale goldens with a boooootiful face! Looks aside I think my favourite thing about them is their good nature and peaceful temperaments. They are never quarrelsome. They just accept everything with such good grace and if they want to protest about anything, sulking is their preferred method. I just LOVE that part of their nature. They are easy dogs for me to spoil and can handle my spoiling without any detriment! Do you currently own this breed or want to? I own two and have this terrible urge for another which I am trying to resist because life is so good right now! Mind you I thought that when I had one so......................

Mine is pretty pretty pale but not very fluffy and doesn't shed very much at all.

Goldens are absolutely wonderful and I find them to be a very “forgiving” breed. In general I find my dogs fairly unreactive to things. For example on our walks sometimes children spring out from nowhere and throw their arms around the dogs. The dogs are fine with these sudden movements etc and don’t seem to mind at all. Not specifically child related but I often have friends come over who yelp in high pitch voices, who cuddle/pat the dogs, look at their teeth, squish their faces, take toys from the dogs mouth to look at etc and the dogs don’t mind at all, even when its people they don’t know very well. My only criticism would be that my girl tends to be a bouncer so if you get someone very loud and bouncy she will take that as a cue to be extra bouncy herself but she is never cross or frightened. Training wise, I find them extremely easy to train dogs. They love their walks and the little one MUST have her games and training but they are very easygoing and good natured. I’m not sure how to put it but I just find them to be very at ease with most things. They are never quarrelsome. Hope that helps you more with the golden part of your question!

I am going through this phase where I am imagining that Bitty was a perfect puppy and thinking "Yeah! It was pretty easy! 6 months! I can do 6 months again easy peasy." I am soooo puppy clucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Maltese Is Getting De-sexed Tomorrow :(
Bubitty replied to Sasha (Alexander)'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Aww don't feel bad Although I do know how you feel. I felt terrible when I handed my girl in for desexing, like I was handing in my gorgeous baby to be diced up. But it was all for the best as I did not want her stolen by anyone unethical to BYB or pumping out babies or getting pyometra etc. By the second day she was back to being a menace and bouncing around. It was a lot of work to keep her still! You just love him! If you didn't desex him, you'd probably spend time worrying about the consequences of not desexing! Don't fret! -
I was taught by my trusty trainer to make sure there are plenty of resources available so that nothing is ever worth fighting for. My little girl is a greedy little fatty but if she's eating a bone and sees me, she'll zoom over and dump the bone at my feet hoping I will give her something better. My boy is like that too. From the moment they came home, although I don't take bones off them, I am always offering better/yummier food and treats. Why fight over a bone if someone can potentially give you a dim sim? They will happily give me anything I ask because history dictates that Mummy has MUCH better stuff on her than an old bone!
-
Bubby is not a problem solver. Bubby is a “MUMMY!!!! FIX IT!!!!!” or a “Hmm I think I will sit and look mellow until Mummy fixes this” kind of fellow! Bitty on the other hand is a superb problem solver (hehe in my besotted eyes). I have managed to train her to do so many things I don’t actually have the skills to teach but I find that somehow, she works out whatever it is I was wishing she could/would do! Mind you Bubby looks "smarter" than Bitty. Bitty bounces around like she only has 2 braincells! I often wished she looked as intelligent as she really is!

How Many People Should Be In Charge Of 'training' A Pup?
Bubitty replied to goldee's topic in Puppy Chat
Hi Goldee, As mentioned already it would be best if one person took over training your puppy. Also please protect the poor puppy from being slapped. There is nothing a 9 week old puppy can learn from being slapped in the face. -
Do You Walk Your Dog No Matter What The Weather ?
Bubitty replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yup! I walk them in any weather except maybe if lightening is striking really hard or trees are falling down in the area. I have only missed out on 2 walks for the entire last year and that was only their second walk during the day. Walks are a bit of a “thing” with me! -
Just because they are a lot of work does not mean they are not enjoyable. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat! I am super puppy clucky and would be thrilled to get a third dog. Just pointing out the realities of life with a puppy. Some people like the idea of a breed but may not be so thrilled with the idea of waking up at 5.30am in the morning to go for a walk in the rain. and yet you said you would definitely not recommend your breed due to the amount of work involved. If you enjoy it, why wouldn't someone else enjoy it as well? Someone might read my post and think “Ohh goodie! Can’t wait to get a golden and do all these activities!” or they might run. In this case, I don’t think goldens are suited to what the OP is looking for. If the OP reads my post and thinks they will enjoy all these activities then good for them!

My breeder thinks I'm nuts but I think she is pretty fond of me! She is my babysitter and puts up with all my shenanigans!

I would NOT recommend a golden puppy either. While you can raise them to be perfect, the energy it takes, the timetable you would have to follow and the effort you have to put in will kill you along the way. In theory my golden puppy was a picture perfect puppy. Never barked, chewed, dug, ripped anything up but the effort that had to be put into her to achieve that was an absolute killer. Her daily routine involved: *Walk in the morning (or just time out sitting on some street corner getting her used to people and cars), recall practice *Back home, game of tug *Trick Training session *Mat training, teaching her calm *preparing about 5-6 treats/contraptions to keep her amused during the day *Basic trick routine before giving her all her “goodies” I go to work *Come home, quick training session to calm her down *another walk/sitting around street corner (to get her away from the backyard which she has been in all day) *Mat training for calm while I make dinner *Training session using her dinner *I have my dinner, she goes out to play with big brother *trick training session *Tugs and games *Mat training again to teach her calm *Put her to bed Whilst this may not look like a strenuous time table, once you factor in early morning wake ups, going to work and dealing with life in general, it becomes a very strenuous activity. I also had a very calm older dog to “babysit” when I was exhausted but I still found it a gruelling 7 months.

Thank God Dogs Doesn't Hold Grudges Because...
Bubitty replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Breeder handed us Bubby, gave us a folder full of instructions, and reiterated to us “Make sure he has plenty to fresh water always available”. We assured her “Yes, yes, we will be wonderful to your beloved Bubby” We take him home, fuss over him, set up water for him outside. For the first 2 weeks we left his water in the laundry and would walk him out every 3 hours and as him “Would you like a drink darling?” Then after about 2 weeks OH had a revelation “If he’s inside with us should we have some water inside so he can drink when he wants instead of having to take him out?” I consulted my trusty breeder folder. Sure enough in capital bolded black letters breeder had typed “FRESH WATER IS TO ALWAYS BE FREELY AVAILABLE AND ACCESSABLE AT ALL TIMES” Poor Bubby! Then there was the time he was feeling carsick but we did not know. We were taking him to the beach and were eating Maccas in the car. We kept offering him Maccas, he refused, we got confused since he was fond of it normally, kept offering it to him again, he relented and ate it and then vomited all over the back seat! -
He is still adorable CW but yes, he is lacking hair a tad the poor poppet!

Just wondering how much importance or effort Dolers place in seperating their dogs. I was given some advice by a very wise person to make sure Bitty can do her own thing and not completely depend on Bubby. Even though they love each other, I have never let them spend a whole day together while I am at work. I also make sure they get a seperate walk in the afternoon and spend an hour every night with each dog away from the other dog. Despite all this Bitty is super attached to Bubby and always looks thrilled whenever she gets to hang out with him. Despite our efforts to seperate them OH and I get quite worried sometimes because she is one and he is turning five so one day if she is stuck without him....................... Do you seperate your dogs? Are your dogs very attached to each other? Does this concern you?
-
Not necessarily, any combination of genetics can occur within one or ten litters of pups, two pups who have similar temperaments at a young age who are raised the same way wont necessarily have the same temperament as they grow I was told that ideally all pups should have the same basic qualities eg they have stable temperaments, good health etc. But then you can have the bouncy one that likes to play all day and the chilled one etc With my two, they come from very similar lines and I can see some identical elements but they are completely different dogs. Bubby is super mellow whereas Bitty is insane.
-
Someone told me that the temperaments should be the same but that their personalities would still be different.

Clever girl Katy!!!!!!
