you can also train drop at a distance using a step (like from your patio down to your grass) or on top of a landing and even placing a rope/stick in front of them

was the book called 'notes from the grooming table'?
-
wasn't there a post about giving them a jar of peanut butter to occupy themselves while you clip away? or you can do the slow, slow and steady training of touch paw - treat, touch nail - treat what if you wear him out with a big run and hop to it when he's a asleep?

it might help if you put the breed of dog you have in the first post, is it Shepherds? I would be inclined to blow out any remaining loose undercoat and do regular brushing to help remove the remaining puppy coat. Once the baby fur is out you can assess if the guard hairs are very soft and then make use of a salt spray Don't forget to keep including fish oils in her diet.

ok! I might get one

what type of plastic is the bottle made of? Stronger than a coke bottle, does it remind you of the plastic int he kathmandu hiking bottles? I'm just concerned if my Shep crunched down on it that i would break or snap??

you could have invited some Canberra Dolers for the 2nd outing! glad she had a good time - take her as often as you can while the weather is warm enough I say! (once a week?)

researching and educating myself with sources beyond people looking to make $$ (i.e. sales assistants and commercial food propaganda, vets with food in their practice) I feel this diet makes the most sense to me and the boy is doing well on it eta: I was introduced to raw feeding by Espinay who was D's kindy teacher, our breeder used mince/supercoat/weetbix/yoghurt type mix and did recommend bones too
-
fingers crossed.

Jack Isn't Himself Today -- Sore Shoulder?
Vehs replied to Mooper's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Phew! Yeah everyone in the shop was impressed with Jack's teeth as well... Dieter got a lot of bones last night to try and match up my excuse is that D's canines are longer than Jack's :D Anyways, glad he's on the mend -
Look it sounds like you are doing all the right things and she is just going through the teenage rebellious stage - continue to be firm with her and not give into her demands. Can't say if it is related to her perhaps coming in season as I have a boy Shepherd - maybe some people with girls can comment. I can't really remember a rebellious stage with my boy, but I do recall our final level obedience exam that he played the fool in - he was probably 10months and it was very embarrassing. She how she goes in school, if she's not responding to commands the trainers can probably suggest somethings - more enthusiasm for you in praising or corrections if you go that way.....

My family taped an episode of it the other week for me (because I like dogs - hah!) and the 2nd case was of a SWF that was from the pound and labelled aggressive but the lady still took it home and then the dog was treated like a human baby and didn't tolerate being groomed ... among other things. He used a lot of scruff grabbing, got bitten numerous times and the dog's face looked like absolute shite because they were using huge kitchen scissors. I don't see what the issue would have been with muzzling the dog especially when the nervous and jittery owner was trying to trim it's fringe with these mammoth scissors and Ceaser was dripping blood everywhere.... I like watching the shows to see the mistakes the humans make so I can try and avoid them, because let's face it is ALWAYS handler error.

bahahaha, I have to say he's lapping up the attention with his 'sore paw' flashfire -christ if she's still bleeding tomorrow (today) take her to the vet! If someone nicks a nail at work we haev styptic power for it (from pet stores) and it pretty much stops straight away, that being said we are kinda used to doing nails so would only nick the very tip of the quick so it would be a small bleeding point if any. Always go slow if you are unsure and only take a little bit off.....

aww that is awful that your family didn't tell you
-
LOL Roxie

At the moment they look fine Maybe in about two months they might actually need a clip and you can trying asking a groomer to do a #4 for them.
-
holy.... that is awful :p I am so sorry to hear this
-
yeah shouldn't be too much of a worry, just don't let her do it again.

Dog poos is my favourite topic - I think it does tell you a lot.

hah! :D I was getting annoyed with the clipping threads - is the same advice people if you have a double coated dog!
