  1. agree, buy some grooming scissors and do one leg in them and then do the other leg with your $10 scissors, you'll see why!
  2. That's Dog World in Hume and down at Lanyon Markets (Conder) they have a DIY near the servo, I think it's about $7 I do plan to check it out when it warms up again
  3. I agree with setterlv, you won't need combs for these areas, I actually use a #10 when grooming dogs bums and bellies anyway You would generally use combs on the body of a dog when the longer blades (such as a #3) are too short for the style.
  4. you could get away with the 10, but what will you be clipping? and what length are you after?
  5. ears, throat, armpits and leg webbing - but you won't have to worry about the latter with a well groomed schnauzer :p
  6. yeah it could be a result of the clipping give her sardines a few times a week and maybe try using a coat king on her (or get your groomer to) to strip out the dry coarse hair and then mabye use a conditioner (coat king a dry coat sans conditioner)
  7. if it's deep get it stitched I clean and bandaged my shepherds paw only until I could get him to the vet http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...c=155282&hl
  8. Odin Genie - If you get concerned it's better to be safe than sorry, I would rather travel 40min for no reason than have a dead dog. When my boy got bloat I was at a friends house so didn't see the early signs, but was told he was attempting to throw up, was pacing, distressed, and making uncomfortable groans, not the usual Shepherd talk - when I went home to see him (I'd had a phone call ~20min after I'd given him dinner) his belly was swollen and tight..... there was no way he would even attempt to be playful he was in so much pain.
  9. christ  poor little bugger, they usually don't have much hair at all at 5mo IME oh well he's probably feeling better now
  10. eeww, I hope it was a standard puppy, because that is A LOT of hair for a mini or toy!
  11. I pluck on an individual basis, especially on horrible gunky dogs On my regularly groomed dogs it's really just a matter of pinching the few hairs in the ear and if they come out great, if not I don't tend to worry. If a dog comes in and the owners have said nothing about the ears and they are really horribly inflamed, full of gunk and smelly then I leave them and say to take the dog to the vet so they can see the whole fiasco and recommend the proper treatment...
  12. Our neighbours had grapes growing over the fence and D (GSD) as a pup used to eat them luckily when he eats stuff he's not supposed to he doesn't get sick, could have to do with being such a big dog, we are always more careful with the maltese x, being so small.
  13. wow has it been a year? take it easy
  14. It's all money making... I'm more than happy to see my vet regarding broken bones and emergencies, but I don't really pay too much attention to their advice regarding vaccinations, yearly heartworms and especially not diet. Sure the 'average' owner's dog may benefit from going off PAL to Hills, but I'm very happy with how I care for my boy, I put a lot of time into researching and considering options for him. Re bones, he's got great teeth, gets a bone everyday -6yr old very minor staining on the top of his canines which is difficult to reduce with bones as he's a big dog. I look after an 11yr old Goldie with fantastic teeth (bar that minor staining) and he gets those commercial denta bones... and eats dry food.
  15. agree with poodlefan exercise him in the cool evenings and make sure you have shade and water in your garden for during the day
  16. yup shouldn't take longer than 2 weeks after they checked and re bandaged D's paw they taped his dew claw in funny and he was chewing to relieve the pain (it was rubbing him raw so if she's really annoyed with it you might want to check that, otherwise she might just be fussy - I think D loved the attention of having a pink bandage hahaha
  17. My Shepherd cut his foot on glass in a river ( ) and because it was deep he got stitches I had the vet tape that sticks to itself in my doggie first aid kit, so after I sorted it out at the river I took him home, re rinsed it and put some cotton pads in gauze and taped his foot up until we went to the vet. Luckily he was so knacked from swimming he didn't really want to run around... I think I also put a sock on it when he went to the loo to stop it getting dirty/damp
  18. often you need to get new blades sharpen and realigned - yes it sucks, but that tends to be the case
  19. I agree with calling - we are flat out atm. Ideally if someone called OUT of office hours and left a msg, then the following morning I would get the msg and either call them when setting up for the day or wait until a break. You could always post out your letter/CV and call a few days later asking if they have received and considered it. good luck with it all - and if you do get a job around this time of year you will get a great taste of good/bad sides of grooming
  20. just hold it taut and have him hold his head straight up - nose to the ceiling, use a 10 blade and shave a 'V' shape down to his breastbone, neat and tidy
  21. dematter or imitation coatking - no idea on cost
  22. Before and After photos are a great idea, but if you have yourself in them or something like your own business card near the dog then they will know you haven't stolen them from the internet! The big thing for us at the moment is finding punctual people!
