  1. tlc - great pics of your walk! Do I see some new puppies tagging along there?
  2. That would be great Ravyk, will definetly meet up for a doggy play date. Keep us posted... Sounds Good! Keep us posted, Ravyk!
  3. Tez - I wish I could put such a positive spin on the day! :D Once I was home, warm & dry the day didn't seem *quite* so bad!
  4. How did we go today you ask? Let's just say it's because of days like today that I had given showing away! Firstly, I was drenched before I even left home from loading the dogs in the trailer, It rained the whole way there, I arrived to discover that group 3 were being judged after group 1 and I could have stayed in bed for another 2 hours, It rained off and on all day and BUCKETED down for the vizsla judging, The entire arena was thick, wet mud - hard enough to walk in let alone RUN! The only other vizsla entered never showed up, Tarni went in the ring and thought it was time for zoomies, Then Tarni got BEATEN by her equally naughty brother (which I don't REALLY mind!) Amy 'showed' as if she were cattle - quite happy to stand there looking depressed and refused to run! Somehow, albeit the only other vizsla present, Amy was awarded the 'challenge' & Best Of Breed(6 points) but never got a look in for Group judging.... So, while the 6 points are welcome, God I had to earn them!!! RE: confirming Amy being in whelp..... I can be quite certain that she is because she is being a total Bitch!!! :D Otherwise, a good day!
  5. Thanks tlc. Yes I like his name too - he was named after the Hudson River, Canada, where his owners recently moved here from. His registered name is Jerojath Tangambalanga. Yep - the other pic is Amy. We've got Hamilton KC Championship Show tomorrow, and one of Hudson/Tarni's brothers is entered; Jerojath Tarrington (Ollie). This is Ollies first show and will be interesting as he hasn't had a lead on him since he left us, as he lives on 7000 acres and has free-run of the lot! His owners are wheat farmers and he spends his days riding in the tractors or on the back of a motorbike! I haven't seen him since he was 8 weeks so I'm looking forward to seeing how he turned out.... Hope to see some of you there, I think RJ and Pandii were going to try to get there for a look. Would gladly have offered anyone a ride but we have family staying with us from WA and they want to come along so we have a full car! Will let you know how we fared here when I get home....
  6. Hi Cavalblaze! Welcome to our little thread! Hope to see you at Hamilton - I'm the one with the two baby vizslas. Drop by here from time to time - we often get together for a walk on the beach etc. ;)
  7. I received a 'concept' shot, but I'm not happy with it. Haven't reveived the rectified pic yet, but here it is anyway... Also got some recent shots of Hudson - my boy in Western Australia..... I think this dog is just awesome. Wish I'd kept him!!!
  8. Yep - we're off to Hamilton on Sunday. We'll need some luck as I have heard about the competition we're up against!
  9. And now for a brief 'plug', if I may! My brother is opening an Aquarium here in Warrnambool, and is expecting to be open in about four weeks. Located next to the ANZ in the Coles/Target car-park "Aqua Life" Warrnambool Aquarium will be suppliers of cold water & tropical fish, as well as being the regions only dealer of Tropical Marine Species. Also supplying off-the-shelf aquarium kits & custom made creations that are a beautiful piece of furniture in their own right. Stockists of tanks, filtration systems, UV lighting, pumps, aquatic plants & decorations, specialised foods including live & freeze-dried foods, water treatments & medications & profesional advice. Having secured both National & International suppliers of quality Aquarist equipment - if he hasn't got it, he'll get it! This will be the regions only store dedicated to fish keeping, so if any of you care for your fish as well as you do your doggies, give him a go! Tristan has spent two years preparing for this and I want him to succeed!!! Keep an eye out for the stores' opening and pop in for a browse.... I popped in there today and the painters & plumbers have finished and the carpet will be done this week so things are finally happening.
  10. TLC - I would absolutely 100% like to be involved once a branch was operating here in town, but I can not commit to traveling to Geelong regularly at this stage. This is something Chantel has wanted to do with Belle for ages. I know you need us to show support NOW by getting started at Geelong, but we just can't. I hope our offer of support is *some* help in getting things going here....
  11. Hi All! Got back about 5pm. Yep... had quite a good day. Tarni showed really well for her first effort and I was pleased with her. She won best baby puppy of breed. Amy was the only intermediate entered so won best intermediate of breed, and then went on to win Bitch Challenge (best bitch of breed) and after that was awarded Runner-Up Best Of Breed There weren't a lot of vizslas entered today but there was some quality competition so she did extremely well & showed like a gem! (It was her first show too). It was a very close call between Amy and another dog for the best of breed but Amy had had enough and went a bit 'flat'. Tarni got a run for Best Baby Puppy In Group but missed out to a really lovely Labrador Retriever. I really had no expectations for the girls today - was treating it as a training exercise so I was very pleased with the result. This win gives Amy her first points for her Australian Champion title. Edit to add: Had a lovely photo taken of Amy today - will post it when I get it emailed to me. Sooooo...... anyone get out for a walk today? The weather was awesome!
  12. Dog show is tomorrow - Horsham/Wimmera. Just worked out it starts at 8:30am so we'll have to leave at 4:30am to be there in plenty of time. Wish us luck though - this is both Amy & Tarni's 'debut' so should be interesting. I have been told Belle's breeder (who bred Amy's Mum) is going to be there so we'll have some good competition for their first visit to the show ring! I don't expect too much from a puppy, but feel Amy could do very well even with a belly-full of arms & legs! Will update as we WIN throughout the day....
  13. Jane and seagull - tez & car keys - Keys being found - tez & Jane tonight -
  14. Not sure what you mean. Monah owns a beautiful vizsla in Darwin. I only know her from the vizsla thread!
  15. Running? Jogging? There should be laws prohibiting such practices!!! Only time I run is at a dog show! I was up at 6:00am too - tending to a very noisy hungry puppy! :D Can't believe I'm about to have another litter - must be crazy!
  16. I have emailed the DSE requesting full details of these 1080 drops. Regardless of which shire, council, ranger or farmer has placed them, the DSE have to know about it. Let's not make this an argument between us all over details, but instead all work to gather as much information as we can. I sure as hell am not comfortable walking my dogs ANYWHERE until I have some hard facts, having already lost a dog to 1080.
  17. Yep. No rules against it AFAIK. Wouldn't bother showing one once they start to lose their waste-line or begin to 'waddle' around the ring
  18. ...must've been typing at the same time!
  19. Well Amy is home, so fingers crossed it was a success ! May do an ultrasound in 3-4 weeks to confirm. Normally don't like doing it but have some over-seas buyers needing confirmation. Was wondering why she's put on weight in the four days she was gone..... they were giving her BREAKFAST!!! :D Will have to do some excercise this week - she has a show on Sunday...
  20. I was wondering how long Pizza Haven would be in town - Can't believe they lasted so long! Crap pizzas and I NEVER saw anyone in the shop! Eagle Boys are better........................ just!
  21. Are you talking about eagle boys pizza? If so, I didnt know they were in Vic. They are big in WA. They are pretty ordinary - not unlike Dominos. Very 'processed'.
  22. Pandii - in relation to what you are talking about, Colossal Rottweilers etc, there is a big 'trend' in the US to beed absolutely HUGE in some breeds and MINISCULE in other breeds. They do promote these as bigger is better and the same for the little ones. Some knobs think its cool or tough to have a HUGE example of a breed or special to have a "tea-cup" variety of another breed! What they dont understand is the implications on the health of these dogs through such drastic *selective* breeding! A classic example is the "Miniature Dalmatian" (Go on, Google it!!!) These people pay HUGE sums of money to what is essentialy a 'puppy farm' for what is, at the end of the day, a shit poor quality Dalmatian! I say if you want a small short haired breed buy a Dachshund. If you want a Dalmatian BUY a Dalmatian!!!
  23. Add. A breed standard is like a blue-print of what the breed should be and breeders try to breed as closely to this standard as they can. This is what gives EVERY breed its distinguishing features and is what makes a vizsla a vizsla, a pug a pug or whatever. Unfortunately, it is fact that 'bigger' dogs win more (so long as they are quality in every OTHER aspect) because they are more eye-catching and have a strong "ring presence". So, BIG dogs get bred to BIG bitches and generations later we have BIG progeny! This has been an issue in my breed for many years - vizslas exceeding the standard for height and have been known to be among the tallest in the gundog ring when they are supposed to be a medium gundog. Our standard refers to the breed in every aspect as MEDIUM & MODERATE etc. Say there are 10 vizslas in the ring, all of equal quality and similar in 'type'. 9 of these exceed the standard for height and one does not. Rightfully, that ONE dog should win, but looks so out of place and different being the minority numerically, he stands little chance. And so the downward spiral continues; people want to use the services of the WINNING dog and want a pup from the WINNING bitch etc and so it goes on.... While some breeds standards include excessive height/weight as disqualifying faults, many do not, so a judge says: "Well, he is a 'little' tall, but I like him the best" and places him up. I have had to compete with this mentality for many years, not to say my dogs are perfect examples of the breed, but I try hard to breed MEDIM dogs and often they are on the lower end of the height requirements, still within limits, but on the smaller side. Hard to compete with those BIG oversized dogs that also have quality (besides their height!!!) when they have become the majority. Geez - I think maybe I needed to get that off my chest!!! ***Must add that this is not a comment relating to Bruno or any others, as I wont comment on any breed I do not know a lot about! ***
  24. Just quickly, I believe the Warrnambool Kennel & Obedience dog club & Harris street training club (WDTC) USED to be one and the same. Now the WKOC is just a club to host annual shows & obed trials. They host an Open Show (No Championship points awarded) and a Championship Show each year. Attracts exhibitors (like any Champ show) from all over vic and many from SA. No. A desexed dog/bitch can NOT be shown. Some 'specialty' shows (for example the vizsla club show, for vizslas only) have a desexed 'class' but it is a "novelty" class - a winner of that can NOT receive any CH points or compete/be awarded any other award in show. To be entered the dog MUST be on the MAIN register of any states controlling K9 body (eg DogsVic) and the owner & handlers MUST be financial members of A state controlling body. Thanks tlc - didn't know you'd seen my website. It's VERY out of date now but if anyone's interested: www.jerojathkennels.com
