Munchin - I am in the shop tomorrow to finish the last of the plumbing etc, and he opens 10:00am Friday. He has had the first of his fish arrive and all his stock is sorted so he will be ready to go by then. Not many fish in yet as they need to be stocked gradually over a period but there are some. There are some beautiful marine fish there already! Only thing that may not be ready is his live plant display but I'm hoping to have it plumbed-in tomorrow. Thought it must be getting really close, don't believe I've heard Pet Goods Direct advertising their fish supplies before until very recently... Amazing what a bit of competition does. Yeah I know! Rumour has it PetStock are about to have a sale on their aquarium supplies too! Think they've had it too good for too long. Without serious competition they've been able to tell customers whatever crap they like to make a sale and charge too much for basic products without sound advice. Mind you, Aqua Life wont be selling 'cheap' stuff. While there will be a choice between budget brands and expensive brands, I gather he isn't stocking any 'rubbish' beyond some childrens 'starter packs'. I think he is going to be well supported as many local aquarists know he is well experienced to offer good advice.

In my opinion, the best kibble available in Australia is 'EVO'. Problem is the sole importer/distributor is none other than that loathed pet store chain via its 'warehouse' type outlets. Thus, I no longer use it. I am hoping in the future it will become available through other retailers - I will switch back to it for sure!!

# Clipper Blade For Poodles?
jerojath replied to Poodle wrangler's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
TLC - regarding the 'beards', RJ is right. Get yourself a good pair of thinning shears. They take some practice to use properly but at least you can't make any huge disastrous mistakes with them! My advice is to work slowly with them - combing through the beard after every 'snip' to remove cut coat, until you achieve the desired effect. -
# Clipper Blade For Poodles?
jerojath replied to Poodle wrangler's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
tlc - a #10 on the feet is fine - as long as you maintain them. Most groomers/poodle folk would use a #30 (and some even a #40) but you need to be quite confident and quick doing the job to avoid clipper rash. Re: plastic combs - they are really only useful (in my opinion) on a coat which has been groomed-through, bathed and dried; then you DO get a nice finish. If used on a knotty/dirty coat they will make the coat look 'choppy'. You are better off using a #5 or #4 on them if you clip before bathing and then once bathed & dried thoroughly, finish off with a #5F or #4F. In the summer I used to like using the #8.5 blade which leaves coat short & sleek without the "shaved" look of a #10. LOVE the #9 on cockers but may be too short for your lot, Barb. What blade do you use on the Vizslas Jerojath.. I have access to two I can practice on. Knowing the owner I think you'd get shot! Poor flyn... you could try clipping out the grey!!! I haven't always been owned by vizslas - I started with Cockers and have been grooming and operating Salons for nearly 20 years. Mind you, I haven't groomed professionally for a little while so my advice to tlc may be totally out of date! -

Can you please give me the contact details for Norking Trailers, I bought a Lockwood in 2003, but I wasn't happy with it and sold it 18months later. I have decided to buy another trailer, I requested quotes from several manufactures and the cheapest again have been Lockwood but they have increased in price $2000 since 2003 and I am a bit concerned that I will have the same issues again. I would be interested to see what price Norking would be and would like to know what their quality is like. Sorry Popeye - just noticed your post.... www.norking.com.au Chris Norquay - 0419-037-749 Robin King - 0414-739-794 [email protected]

tlc - I haven't seen snakes on the beach but plenty in the scrub, on the track in, and even in the car-park at the end of Basin Track. Problem is my dogs wont stay by the water - they take off immediately into the dunes and I often don't see them again til I get back to the car. I've tried keeping them on leash there but they get soooo frustrated and sook all evening once I get them home. They are happy to stay at home as they get so much attention from us and the kids but are just unhappy going out on leash - I think it's just a 'tease' for them! tlc - just re-read your post... did you mean snakes or 'snales' at Killarney......?
-
Hello Linda! where have you been? Bad news about the snake - you'd think your dogs would be safe there.... guess not! My dogs hardly get out during the warmer months as they HATE going out on leash and I just worry about snakes too much everywhere. I've seen heaps of snakes at the river and at Killarney so far this summer and it scares the crap out of me - especially when the girls take off into the bush and don't come immediately they're called... makes my blood run cold! Hope you and the doggies are all well... we've been wondering how your going lately. Did you manage to find another house with more 'understanding' landlords? Catch up soon! Edited to add... Although the Red Bellied Black Snake (Pseudechis Porphyriacus) is not regarded as a dweller of our immediate region, they frequent areas just North, N/East & N/West and in recent times have been widely documented as having slowly migrated South and have (although infrequently) been recorded inhabiting the Coastal regions of South-West Victoria - including Suburban Warrnambool.

After reading briefly through this thread, there seems to be some confusion regarding the Sharden Trailers. Sharden have been 'bought out' and now trade under 'Norking Manufacturing' and they are on the Peninsular. Bisart Dobes - there is a HUGE difference between the Advantage & Norking Trailers. They are nothing alike and the price difference is also great. I very much liked the Advantage but what I wanted was going to cost me about $8500!!! I bought a Norking Sportsman4 with a few 'extras' and changes and I am thrilled with it. Cost me under $4500! Norking are GREAT to deal with too.... can't reccomend them highly enough.

They cope well in the heat actually! We have air conditioning but we can't use it coz the poor little mites get cold! They are spending time out in the kennels in a grass run but I can't trust them outside if I need to go out coz they wont seek shade. I worry that they will just lay in the sun and cook! One by one, they are figuring out that they need to head into the shed when they get hot.... stupid puppies! Here is a pic of them today. Auntie Tarni loves them and has gone all maternal on me!

Reckon this is cool....

Quick couple of pics taken today by Pandii. Having trouple posting pics ATM but we'll see how we go.....

Ellz - looks like the hard work and worry has paid off!
-
Agreed. I'm not going anywhere at the moment - have been to the river and beach the last week and there are so many snakes you can't let the dogs off anyway! I envy NZ dog owners who can walk anywhere they like at any time of year and not have to worry about snakes....
