  1. SoL - Sending good vibes your way.... not long to go now! Any action at Camp SnoFyre? Ish & Whippets - your babies are all lovely! Will post some pics of my lot soon.
  2. I have a bitch who had a very difficult time first time around which ended with a c/section and half her pups dead. She has since whelped two litters freely - 10 pups in about 3.5 hours and just this week; 6 pups in 2.5 hours and they were the largest pups she's had to date. You just never know! The daughter of the same bitch appeared to be having alot of trouble whelping her litter. She delivered one pup and for 3 hours there was no more despite a lot of pushing. I took her to the vet and upon arrival found she'd whelped another in the back of the car, and then proceeded to whelp the remaining three in the clinic as we watched with a cuppa! So these days, I never rush them in for help but prefer to give them a good chance. Obviously I wouldn't let a bitch carry on if she was very distressed. I also offer Troy calcium syrup at labors start and throughout the whelping.
  3. This all very interesting. I called the vets where my girl in located and in the whole township none of the vets have ultrasound equippment. We are hopeful our Cavalier girl is pregnant. One tie only 25 minutes and stud owner has had a look and had a hard time trying to feel for anything and the bitch wasn't happy about being examined. Maiden bitch so she isn't giving any real definate signs away. We have found she has put on weight, been a bit off colour somedays. She did have a discharge just after her season finished. Nipples are slighlty pinker, not really noticable. We can do a Xray for $140 after 8 weeks, but i'm letting nature take it's course. We either are going to have little babies or not, test aren't going to change that. It would be nice to know numbers and get a definate confirmation, but we'll work on idea she is pregnant and if she is having a phantom we will try again in 6 months. Cavalblaze - RE: U/sound, are you referring to the 'larger' town nearby to you? Just curious, because my vet ultrasounds.
  4. I offer a full 30 day health guarantee (excluding 'accidents'/injuries) where I will cover all veterinary care costs up to the purchase price of the puppy. I offer a lifetime guarantee against hereditary conditions, where I will replace a pup or cover veterinary expenses up to the purchase price of the puppy. We do retain the right for any complaint to receive a second opinion from our own Veterinarian or a Veterinarian of our choice, but we cover all transport costs relating to this. There are obviously risks involved in offering such a guarantee - you never really know what can be lurking, but I see it like this: Your puppy buyers have chosen to buy from YOU because you claim to breed healthy pups and undertake relevant health testing. They have been responsible and educated enough to buy from a responsible, registered breeder, so as a breeder I need to be equally responsible for what I have bred and sold. The day could come where numerous pups from my kennels could display some hereditary disease and I would then be responsible for paying a LOT of Veterinary fees, but I believe if you're not in a position to step up at such times, then you really shouldn't be breeding in the first place. We also REQUIRE that should circumstances etc change and a particular dog needs to be re-homed, that it is returned to us. Edited to add our exclusion.
  5. Thanks to you all! Yes BB - I'd forgotten last night it was St Pat's day! Might need to go with an Irish theme for names..... Any ideas???
  6. There have been numerous threads here in the past about these machines. From memory NO ONE would put their dog in one! Idiots.
  7. We have babies here! 09:05pm - Bitch 09:41pm - Dog 10:26pm - Dog 10:36pm - Bitch 11:13pm - Dog 11:37pm - Bitch Thanks to 'Belle' for presenting us with this lot at a very decent hour. She is now resting with the knowledge that she will now be retired from future motherly duties!
  8. tlc, in recent years more and more councils are waking up and seeing the benefits of dedicated dog friendly areas. Surely it's only a matter of time here, even for our council! A prepared petition could certainly get the cogs turning and ideas being nutted out! Could be a good idea!
  9. Awwwww, whippets & skyehaven - what beautiful puppies! Now I'M getting excited..... Here's a pic of Belle tonight. She is 'due' today but I think she's a while off, yet.
  10. Ask your Vet. Our Vet has loaned them to us in the past to scan/check litters when there has been confusion!
  11. Yes, I am the one paying. Thank you for your offer, it is much appreciated. I'd like to help a little too. Please PM me.
  12. I ordered mine when my last litter were a week old. They are now 5 months old and I'm still waiting for my Advance Puppy Packs which have been "promised" to me countless times. I have another litter due in a week and will be making alternative arrangements, as I have also switched my dogs diets..... VERY disappointed.
  13. I read about the compost cages from Bunnings on DOL which many members were using as puppy pens etc. I have bought a number of them on the recommendations of DOLers and love 'em!
  14. I've had similar experiences and now only ultrasound to confirm, rather than 'count'. I had a bitch ultra-sounded and was told there were definitely four, maybe five but could be shadow. She whelped eleven.
  15. Wow!!! Great litter Libertybrook! Congratulations! March litters are arriving thick and fast now!
  16. Great news, Skyehaven!! for pics.....
  17. Hmmmm, some interesting responses relating to maintaining temperatures. I have always set the thermostat at 25 degrees for the room and don't use a heat pad. I used to use the split-system but found the room would cool too much before it kicked in again. Now I use an oil column heated near the box which maintains the room temp more accurately. Even without the heat pad I've found that at times the litter will separate and spread out around the whelping box to keep cool, but will pile up when they need the warmth. I was mainly curious because I spoke to a breeder who keeps the whelping kennel at 30 degrees as well as using a heat pad and has never had a problem with pups overheating. But as Donna said, the pups and Dam are the best indicators if things are not ideal.
  18. I was speaking to a number of people at some shows on the weekend about maintaining temperatures in a whelping room during whelping and after (say, the first seven days) and got quite varied opinions. Besides most using a heat-pad, what temperature do others maintain in their whelping rooms?
  19. Jess - what a great result for you on Saturday, well done! How many passes do you have in JDM? I had no idea you were trialling at that level - you must be very dedicated. T&T - I can't help with the burnt grass problem. I too have tried everything and nothing seems to work. Bitches in whelp are the WORST for burning grass - I've given up! tlc - I don't know how tenties went at Noorat - I saw her arrive for the second show on Saturday. Don't know if she showed Sunday or at the last show this morning. I'm sure she'll pop in here with any news! I missed the entries for all 5 shows, what, with the baby due and everything else going on! I did go down to watch on the Saturday as a friend was entered with her baby vizsla and ended up down at the Mt. Noorat Hotel until after 1:00am and spent the night on the cold damp grass in my friends gazebo. It was very cold and draughty but at least it kept the rain off! I think I have come home with the flu. No more shows for me for a while - I've finally been confirmed to have surgery (again!!!) on my knee at the end of April so God knows when I'll be able to show again. Hope everyone's been able to find time between the rain to get out with their pups! Mine have been a bit neglected as one is heavily pregnant and I've had a re-home vizsla here for a while who took a lot of my time. Will try to get them out to Killarney a few times this week for a good run. ;)
  20. Congrats, 'bel' look forward to puppy pics. Not long to go now! My Belle has completely exploded over the last 24 hours! Here's me thinking she is going to present me with a nice small litter and then she wakes up today HUGE!
  21. I have not bought Vet Bed for some time. In fact I am sure the last time I bought some I had it sent from the UK as it was not readily available here. I have heard that it has come down in price of late and wonder where the cheapest place is to buy it? I need the 1.5metre width. Also, I have never used the Vet Bed with the rubber backing. Does this work as well as the original Vet Bed? Pros/Cons?
