  1. Great story SSM. There really are some wonderful folk in the 'dog world' who freely give of their time regardless of where you got your dogs from, or whether you are a newbie. I hope those people see this thread and see how they have calmed your panic! Hope all's well with your girl! I have regular contact with some breeders in my breed overseas. They know I have no intention of importing from them in particular, but are always so happy to give of their time and boundless knowledge. I love these threads, because for every whinge and complaint we read here about a breeder, there are 100 positive stories we never hear about.
  2. It is not common practice for staff to remain at a clinic overnight. In fact, with 12 years Vet Nursing in numerous clinics I have never seen it occur. If you have grave concerns, you can ask your Vet for a referral and take to an AEC or similar, which are only open outside of normal clinic hours and have Vets/Nurses working all night. Hope she continues to improve though, Jules!
  3. Yep... what 'showdog' said. Enjoy, have fun, be patient, and see what comes. He is a lovely looking boy. Good luck in 'the ring'.
  4. I wouldn't be worried about the advertising itself, just yet. Maybe pop into the Amstaff thread and chat with some knowledgeable folk there who can guide you with relation to relevant health testing etc. Is he ANKC registered? If so, is he on the main register? Do you show your dog? so many questions before anything else...... It's not YOUR job to find him 'suitable mates'... but rather breeders need to want to use HIM. IMHO, a guality dog who is visible to the breed community needs little promotion. ETA - WHY does the breeder think he would make a great stud dog?
  5. I think that guy is an idiot. He might feel his dog is rock-solid, but he can't control cars reversing without looking etc. Hell, he can't even completely control where his Frisbee is going to end up! If the clip was for advertising then I find it especially irresponsible. Leash-laws are for everyone - not just for those dogs not trained to a specific standard. I also feel having the dog run toward traffic after the Frisbee is stupid as it could certainly be a distraction to drivers. I just don't see the point being a smart-arse.... take your dog to the PARK for gods sake.
  6. Tenties - got everything crossed here for you! Good luck and keep us posted! Are you looking at a place in town? Happy Easter Everyone! We normally go camping over Easter but with puppies we are stuck at home this year
  7. I let the pups decide. Every litter varies. I have a litter 10 days old and they have been lapping at diluted puppy milk for a couple of days and are showing interest in their Mums food too. I do like them to be well and truly on solids by 4 weeks and completely weened by 6.
  8. Speak to your Vet - I gather it is widely accepted by Vets and the manufacturer that it offers protection for at least six weeks. Monthly intervals are safe, and are easier for users to remember to administer, but not required.
  9. I use it every six weeks as they are still well and truly protected for this period. I don't like overdosing anything and it saves a lot of money this way! Each time I use it I just mark the calendar for six weeks time.
  10. Sandra777 I agree.... I sometimes wonder if all the effort and expense I lavish on pregnant bitches is really worth it, I have a friend who breeds some of the finest working Border Collies in Victoria and he feeds them the cheapest crappiest kibble money can buy, with the odd slab of raw beef thrown in when he butchers a bullock! Then he locks the heavily pregnant bitches in a cage trailer on some straw and leaves them be! He has rarely had a stillborn pup and has never had one fade..... His dogs are sooooo fit and healthy and just seem to live forever!
  11. .....knee reconstruction AGAIN! I had it done years ago but my physio screwed it up completely during rehab and it has gotten steadily worse. I already have a Kevlar patella in there, so god knows what they'll do to me this time!
  12. T&T - good to hear you're on the mend! I've got a meeting with my specialist on April 26 so hope to receive a surgery date then. Probably off my feet for a time too, I should think. I've not done the million paws walk before but may go along this year. How does it all work and what is the course? Start time? etc.
  13. tlc - perhaps Laura Benini makes a fine dog-walking shoe? ;)
  14. My favorite boarding kennel, and one I used for many years before moving house was Casanova Kennels, in Dixons Creek near Melbourne. While I haven't spoken to them for a while, they always used to accept 'retired' dogs and often those left to them in deceased wills etc. They would live in a separate area to the boarders and had lovely quarters and big grassy areas and swims in the dam..... Terry & Angela genuinely loved all these dogs and went to great effort to make them feel at home. Many of the dogs would be there for many years and I got to know some of them well. They were happy, healthy and just became part of the furniture there!
  15. I'll second this.... would suit you perfectly Bokezu!
  16. I think there are 12. Any gamblers amongst us who care to make a wager?
  17. There are numerous clips on YouTube of these machines washing cats and they are going crazy with fear! Apparently these clips are supposed to be "funny".
  18. Congrats on the BC babies! Looking forward to some pics of all the new arrivals...
  19. Congratulations TashaBailey! That 'extra' little girl was a nice surprise!
  20. Congratulations SoL! Glad they are all healthy bubbas. So did she finish up with the nine?
  21. I like the rubber backed vet bed as they don't slip around in the whelping box. They still wash & dry great!
  22. A couple of quick pics at 48 hours old...
  23. SnoFyre - I know exactly what you mean! My girl whelped her entire litter on the sofa and she was so comfy I didn't have the heart to move her! Once she'd finished, she was more than happy to be moved into the box but not after completely ruining the sofa. The next day I had to buy a brand new mattress and cushions as they were wet with blood. The OH wasn't impressed..... Best of luck with your imminent babies!
