  1. I have been offered one 'on license' for $2500, just 1.5 meters long. The OH thinks it's too much money. Probably fair enough as we would have to build a huge pit and pool for it too! (That little poll on FB was just me trying to wind her up. )
  2. I have taken this whole week off work to spend the 2nd half of holidays with the kids. We spent ages at Killarney yesterday on the beach and been snake hunting today. Pretty darn good weather really! 2 of the kids are off to theur Grandparents for a sleepover tonight and we will join them there for lunch tomorrow. Sunday we are going to "A Day On The Hill" celebrations at Flagstaff Hill. Haven't been there for this day before so don't know quite what to expect. Vizsla Judging today at Sydney Royal, so I'm eagerly awaiting results from a friend there. There is a huge weekend of showing at Mt Gambier over Easter. I thought about entering Tarni in them all and heading over with Donna & Terri but then I thought.... Naaah. Screw that!
  3. Well with the half-arsed mouth inspections MOST Judges offer, he shouldn't have any dramas in the show-ring.
  4. Bronson.... "Are you just taking the piss, Mum?"
  5. Mice? RATS??? AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
  6. It was a horrible wait, the vet wasn't sure if we were looking at cancer or something benign and aggressive that would require "debulking", and he hasnt lost any teeth yet, so we'll still be sporting it in the show ring for a while longer... Great news. Bet you're relieved! Has this cyst affected his bite at all?
  7. Jess has just assured me she was NOT excited, and her expression was caused by the sun in her eyes!
  8. Glad to hear your boy is recovering well, chatabox. Let's hope the biopsy returns good news! :D Here's a quick pic of the family at Flagstaff Hill Pets Day. Chan could NOT get Tarni to face the camera as she could see me off in the distance :p If you look closely you can see Jess has one of her Bearded Dragons (Clyde) and Jacob has his young Spotted Python around his neck. One of them was awarded "Most Unusual Pet" but can't remember which one! ;) (Not much competition though! )
  9. We've been out to Flagstaff Hill this morning, as part of their Holiday Kids Program they had a "Pets On Parade" morning. Visitors were encouraged to bring their pets along and talk about them etc and there were prizes for Best Trick, Best Behaved, Most Unique pet etc. Shannon was there so of course Mawson won the best tricks category . There was a talk on some basic preventative care for pets by a local Veterinarian and Shannon gave an interesting talk on the importance of the RSPCA in our local community, then changed hats and informed us about her work in Wildlife Rescue and foster care. There were calves, a pony, day-old chicks, a rabbit as well as every-bodies family pets. Unfortunately the morning was quite poorly attended which is a shame as it was a great concept which would be more successful for a larger group of people and their pets. Hopefully if it is organized again for next year it will be better supported.
  10. Following on from a discussion on Facebook regarding the lack of good pizzas in our two-bit town, has anyone here tried the pizzas from Alex' in Koroit? I have heard they are by far the best pizzas in the district, but everyone likes different things in a pizza! Who's tried them? What did you think?
  11. Yeah I hope he's ok too. I didn't get a chance to check those threads you linked here coz my 'puter is still playing up a little, so I'm trying to use it as little as possible before I get it back to the guys for fixing. What was the op he was having?
  12. Yep I will write a letter if you think they would appreciate it. I was there again today and got chatting to the bouncy castle operator. He was talking about Thursday night too, and said an estimated 350 kids passed through the bouncy castle on that night, of an estimated 600 kids present! So approximately 250 kids completely missed out. Apparently Bunnings considered hiring a second castle, but by the time they realized they would need it, it was too late. $1600? Gosh that's a lot of food. I also heard today of people putting pizza in their bags and then rejoining the queue...... just awful. Again, I think that if they keep it strictly bookings essential, as their literature stated, it would have been such a great night and a real credit to Bunnings and their staff. Having people turned away at the door for not having a booking would create a reputation for these community nights too! Didn't see you there today tlc.... we rocked up at about 1:30. I have been hit by the gardening bug at home this week. You'd think I would be completely 'over it' after gardening all day every day at work!
  13. Oh poor you! Hope you are on some good pain killers at least! You are right about the freeloaders.... that's how I felt just being their, with the behaviour of many people there. We wont go again. I feel like a prick complaining, as it is a FREE night after all, but I think with some better planning (like keeping the "essential" bookings, essential) it could be a really successful evening. Chan was just saying she saw adults walking around with armfuls of food because it's 'free', then putting it down and just walking away from it! What a waste of food and waste of Bunnings' efforts and money. I am surprised Bunnings bother with nights like this after what I saw. Have I missed something? What's wrong with your fella, chatabox? Hope all's well! I too, would love to know what Vet you are referring to...
  14. Hope all goes well Tenties... we look forward to a photographic montage when you get it back!
  15. So I was out at Bunnings today as I have decided to spend my day off tomorrow servicing my mower. I pick up a spark plug, some oil and a set of new blades etc and as we're leaving the kids see a sign promoting a Family Easter Fun Night or something, and it happens to be on tonight and states that bookings are essential. So the OH goes to the service desk and inquires, and is told we do indeed need to book so they can order enough food as supper is provided. Not bad for a free night out! So anyway, we rock-up there tonight, hoping to catch their star employee, ;) but to no avail. Couldn't believe the crowd there! I had NO idea there were so many freeloaders in the town! Firstly the kids want to go on the jumping castle, which we are told has a wait of about an hour, so we go off and do some crafts which the kids love, and visit some day-old chicks for a hold etc. Went back to the castle.... still about 40-50 kids in the queue and only 5 are getting on at a time. We then hear that supper is being served so we head off in that direction. I couldn't believe the way people behaved! Some of the adults were like starving animals! They were literally pushing in front of kids so they could get some food. Anyway, they were walking off with arm-fulls of paper plates each containing a slice of pizza or a Subway, so by the time we got up front ALL the food was gone! Worse is that as we walked through the store, there were plates of wasted food shoved here there and everywhere amongst the stock! I just couldn't believe how these adults were behaving... if my KIDS had behaved like that I'd have clipped them! Can't complain really as it was a free night and Bunnings put on a pretty good show, but there were apparently a LOT of people there who hadn't booked, so I don't think Bunnings had any idea how many people were turning up. Maybe next year they could issue tickets of some sort when the 'booking' is made. Just seems unfair that even when you make the booking it is SO busy the kids missed out on most of the activities. tlc... I think you picked a very good night to not have to work...... you wouldn't believe the mess!
  16. So i guess you dont really want any visitors I bought a whopping big fly swat at the Reject shop last payday for only $2..... good buy me thinks.. :D You're not far wrong.... A very good friend refuses to come visit since finding out we have snakes in the house. She had been around countless times before and never had a problem, but that was when we kept the snakes in my bedroom and nobody knew about them. Fingers crossed all is successful Cavalblaze!
  17. Oh I cringe alright..... you have NO idea. They make my skin crawl, even when they're dead! Edited to add.... We have decided to try and source a particular species of Tarantula. Dunno why dirty, filthy, stinkin' little rodents bother me so much!
  18. Well done, RP! They are commonly known as Childrens Pythons after the man who discovered them, by that name. I don't like the word "Childrens" as there are 4 species and a sub-species which all get lumped in together as Childrens Pythons. Also, it has created the common misconception that the species is ideal for children. While they do reach a manageable maximum size, their temperaments are certainly not as ideal as many other species of snake! Yes the info on Antaresia.com is virtually irrelevant here in Oz. Even with heating, the ambient temperatures in Canada mean they don't have to 'cool' them. Generally, we have to 'cool' our snakes over winter, which entailes backing off their artificial heat source and not feeding them over those months. Then when the weather warms, we crank the heat and feed them up, which simulates a winter period in the wild. This usually encourages the female to ovulate and there are tricks to encourage the male to want to mate, but they usually need little encouragement! Re patterning, yes you are right! What I source, and try to breed, are the specimens with greatest contrast in coloration, ie; the darkest patterning against the lightest base. Childrens Pythons (and most others) usually develop 'muddying' which is where the melanin (dark pigment) weeps as the snake grows, causing undefined patterns giving the 'blurry' appearance you speak of. I am developing lines with strongly contrasting colors which the animal will hold through to maturity. THAT'S why these particular snakes were so important to me! I already have the line I'm after, but needed to introduce fresh blood and didn't want to go back to the beginning. It's all very interesting! There's lesson 101 in python pigment! I was wondering why you were on at 3am! Great story! I hate mice, they really give me the heebie-jeebies! I hate going to our freezer as we have baby mice, adult mice, baby rats and adult rats in there looking at me every time I open the door!
  19. G'Day RP Nice to 'see' you again. Hope you are ok now. Tenties I agree.... we need some up-to-date eye pics! tlc I'm afraid we have had an escapee recently. Remember Nadia the Blotched Bluetongue who was nearly due to have her babies? Well, she began getting a little distressed indoors in the 'nursery' vivarium as she is used to living outside in their huge enclosure. So, we were getting some really nice warm days recently so we decided to put her out in the sun by day and bring her in of a night. Come dusk, we went to get her and bring her in and she was nowhere to be found. We found her point of escape and have rectified it but it seems she has gone for good. We have told all the neighbors in the area to look out for her, but there is so much vacant land and bush, especially along by the river, that she has probably headed there. Luckily, we try not to domesticate our outside lizards too much and rarely handle them and feed them plenty of live food and other things they would eat naturally in the wild, so the chances of her surviving are excellent. The babies, when they decide to arrive, will be ok too as they know nothing else. I'm sure they'll be mixing it with their wild friends in no time. But we have a number of other girls nearing to their due-dates here now. I am also a little worried about tez.... hopefully she has simply had enough of DOL for now. I'm sure it does happen! RuralPug I have just taken a quick pic of one of your freighted-friends The female has just eaten so I don't want to disturb her (they often regurgitate their rats if you handle them during the first couple of days after eating). Plus, she is a right cow and always bites me. But here's the male. He is an Antaresia Childreni which are not 'rare' as such, but he is from a Darwin location which is why he has such lovely dark patterning. Darwin locale specimens are uncommon in the hobby and are very hard to find, which is why I went to such lengths to secure these two! This fella has just exceeded the 4-foot mark. He's a really lovely boy and he will be put to one of our other girls after a winter cooling.
  20. Some of us tried to get together for some informal show training last year, but it just got too hard trying to organize a day and time that suits everyone. Between work, dogs, kids and god knows what else, we couldn't manage it. I thought about getting out to Winslow but due to a number of factors, I am not showing for quite a while so it seems pointless for me. Might be worth you trying to organize something for those interested?
  21. If you can afford to buy a tandem unit, you'll be very glad you did.
  22. It's still 'kinda' working tonight.... just keeps switching itself off all the time! I installed a new power supply last week as it died then, and now this problem... could just need some thermal paste or a new fan (poss over-heating?) but I'm hoping it doesn't need a whole new processor! The place we take it are pretty good, and we normally have it back that day or the next. Last time I got it fixed at Multicom because my regular shop was closed for holidays, and they had it for nearly 3 weeks and charged me nearly $200, and when I told my usual guy about it and what had been done, he reckons he would have had it back to me before lunch and charged me $40!!! Does sound like its overheating JJ, a friend had to run a fan on theirs lol.....who do you go too ??? i have taken mine to the one across from the Capital a couple of times, but have been told i should be taking it to the place down the road from there ??? i have to get a new hard drive in my desktop, but the cost is scaring me, or how much it might cost i should say they couldnt give me a figure except around $100 for the hard drive alone i dont have any of the disc's to load on it either, so that is a small fortune itself.... I go to the guys on Timor Street... think that's who Chatabox is talking about too. They are called Super Billing and have a no-frills shop and no-frills prices! Got ours back in one day, and once again... $40!
  23. Oh it must've been that one.... sorry! Will check out the recent pic later.
  24. tlc I just saw a pic of you on FB... can't believe how fast your hair has grown!!! Was just starting to get used to seeing you with really short hair, but now it's not even 'short'.
