Glad to hear you are finally moving in RJ! Your 'babies' here are doing really well... eating me out of house and home, competing with the TV with their croaking etc. It is really amazing how their condition has improved in the short time they have been here, they've put on a lot of weight, they have gone from grey to green again and croak a lot! Good news. Will call for help too, should we need it with puppies but I am sure we will be fine. I'm not expecting any dramas and have tube-fed entire litters in the past alone and pulled through ok. I am pretty sure Mawson and boat are tucked-up in a sheltered bay for the duration of this awful weather... not sure where, exactly... tlc do you know?

Bored here too..... on puppy-watch. Could go on for days. Edited to add... Just as well I like a Carlton Draught! :D
-
I also noticed Jetpoint and SBT101 aren't on post #1 either.... maybe others too?

I would definitely stay with her... very important that she stay with the pups. Is this her maiden? If so, it can take a time for her to become comfortable with them. Once she sleeps you can leave, and she'll soon realise she doesn't need you there.

No milk??? Can't stop for a coffee then. Got any beers in the fridge? We missed out on lots of babies this year... all mated too late in the season, it's happened to a lot of people this year. The weather has been so strange that lizards were mating but not ovulating is my guess. The bluetongue we had pregnant here went into hibernation outside. I have never had that happen before so I don't quite know what to expect... she may have had them and eaten them or maybe she slows down and will birth in the warmer weather . I was at blokes house yesterday who also has Bluetongues and he said the same thing... lots of fat bellies around and then no babies... they all just went into hibernation! Dunno about this 'global warming' bizzo... seems to me it's getting colder! I must say I love all the lizards hibernating... my feeding bill has reduced significantly of late! So many animals to feed here at the moment... takes me nearly two hours on feeding days.

Well Hullo there Tenties! Where you been hiding? I went past your place yesterday... gave you a toot. I actually planned to stop on the way home for a quick visit and to meet BJ and the others, but I had three snakes in the car who were getting very cold and cranky due to a long delay getting home. I just had to get them under some heat again. I will be up and down from Melbourne a lot over the next few weeks so I'll pop in next time I am going past at a sensible hour. How have you been anyway? What's the latest with your eyes? Edited to add... some good advice there Tenties... I find Chicken Necks fantastic for this.

Now I guess it's our turn next?

Yay!!! Congratulations Jetpoint and to all the little GSP babies! And I gather an extra BIG congratulations on the Liver Girl! Hope they all thrive for you. RIP bubbas who didn't make it.

Cav I have a litter due today myself, otherwise I'd come give you a hand. Being Tarni's maiden litter I really can't leave her and there's no-one else at home.
-
Hope you're feeling much better by Friday.
-
Sorry Cavalblaze I just saw your edit. Hope she is ok... pop in and let us know when you can. I was surprised to read the Vet left the pups on her considering she was so bad.... hope that hasn't encouraged a re-lapse. Fingers crossed here for you.

Cav I am sure the Mortlake Rd Clinic have Calcium supplements there... I bought some on Friday night and they had plenty in stock. I use the Troy calcium liquid... really easy to administer and smells like caramel! Glad to hear things have improved for her... they sure do pick-up quickly, don't they? As far as your Vet bill is concerned, the medication you were given are inexpensive and I'm thinking maybe they have a flat-rate after hours fee? I can't remember if I was charged 'hourly' or not in the past. The last A/H visit was for a caesarian section and I remember being surprised at the small 'labor' component on the invoice, and we were in there for hours too. But I guess we shouldn't attract too much attention to the fact should we!

I think it's worth being a little paranoid. I had a bitch a couple of years ago who showed no signs of an imminent whelping, who asked to go out for a pee first thing in the morning. I let her out and tried to watch from the window (I wasn't even dressed!). Next thing I know she is whining at the back door with something in her mouth. I only took a glance out the window, and assuming it was yet another bird, I went to take it off her. She handed it over immediately but instead of it being a bird, it was a puppy! She had whelped it on the grass, on a very frosty wet morning. The pup was none the worse for wear, and was the biggest pup in the litter, now in WA. Still, after that little 'episode' I don't let them out of my sight!!!

OMG that's awful. Have you taken the pups off her or are you going to try and rectify it with them on? Eclampsia is most common in small breeds, and most often after a large litter, so your girl is a prime candidate. I always give an oral calcium supplement to bitches from the day they whelp. Not too much though, or the bitch can't regulate the additional calcium intake and this can cause eclampsia also. What are the injections the Vet has you on? Is it Calcium + D? Hope things improve for her and remember NEVER take any chances with eclampsia... if she starts developing further symptoms get her straight to the Vet. Long night ahead for you there Cav.

63 days tomorrow for us here too. She wouldn't eat her dinner tonight which has never happened with her before, so thought we might have some action. Nope. 15 minutes later she wandered out and scoffed the lot! Very uncomfortable now, but resting peacefully nonetheless.

Same boat here... I'll be back in a week.
-
Glad you had a good time tlc... it sure looked like on FB!
-
Puppy-fix received with thanks! My turn next. Due on Sunday but could happen well into next week. Still, Chantel is pleased as from this point on I prefer to sleep in the lounge beside the whelping box! Hope you've had a great night, tlc! ;)
-
We're acting very restless here tonight.... lots of messing up the blankets etc! Tarni isn't due til Sunday, but could be as late as mid-next week. Hopefully she's just stuffing around tonight... I'd like to see them stay-put for a couple more days at least! Good news regarding your little one Alyosha... hope he continues to strengthen! Sorry for your loss, TashaBailey but great to read the others are doing so well!

Have you sold any of your girls on breeders terms previously? Seems a real shame for it all to end here... I know you will obtain another quality girl in the future, but the line you have been working with is now over, or is someone else breeding along the same lines? I know I always sell one high-standard girl on a litter on breeders terms... although I have no desire to breed from them it is useful to have some to fall back on in a worst-case scenario. I only have one breeding bitch here now and if I was to loose her in an accident or similar it would be an end to what I have worked for. I also think that sometimes while it's very hard to do, it can be necessary to rehome dogs which can't be utilized within a breeding program otherwise you can end up with twenty old desexed animals and nothing to breed-on with! It's a tough call for sure, but if keeping them on as pets is more important to you than your breeding then I guess it's a no-brainer. Not trying to preach to the converted... just saying. Besides all that, I think we need some fresh puppy Cav pics! How old are they now?
-
That sounds great and I'm sure you'll all have a ball. There's no doubt you'll fit-in... everyone there will have short hair at least! Was kidding re transport... I'll make the trip down on Saturday. Should be interesting... apparently one of them is a nasty piece of work!

Awesome... congratulations on the award! Is it a Bunnings award or a shave-for-a-cure award? Hope you have a great time. Melbourne, hey? Don't want to bring some 'biteys' back with you, do you??? ;)

Ooooooh, excitement!!! Can't wait for baby-borzoi pics!!! Hope all continues to go well there!
