OMG that is a little one. That's like 3 ounces or something? Can't wait for pics! Is that typical for a Pug or is that small? Hope you have an easy whelping!
-
That is quite early, but it looks as though they want out!

Thanks to all for the well-wishes and congratulations. I just love an event-free, textbook whelping..... sooooooooo easy and enjoyable. I just sat back and watched! Here's a quick pic of the proud Mum with her charges this morning. I shall read back over this thread when I have a moment and see if there have been any more babies born!

Here's a couple of pics from the whelping... And one of the proud new Mum and her babies this morning.... We had a 'textbook' whelping at a very considerate time of day, and all over in time for me to cook dinner!

The little girl suddenly 'sprung' up! Never seen anything like it! I think she must have been quite squashed??? Anyway, she weighs in at a healthy 459g.

Hope you're feeling a little better today tlc.... doesn't your friend arrive today to get the party started?

Jetpoint I wouldn't be overly concerned about Mia's diarrhoea.... as you say, just ensure she is well hydrated. No puppies here yet... after a restless evening Tarni slept through the night and refuses to get out of bed this morning. I'm not at all concerned, as she may not even be 'late'... she was mated over a period of some days so may not even be 'due' until Wednesday/Thursday. I'm glad she didn't decide to whelp last night as we had a power-failure and thus, lost all lights and heating; not ideal conditions for a trouble-free whelping!

Off our food here tonight again... but didn't go back for it later this time! She is sleeping soundly now, but has been very restless... up, down... up, down... turn around... up, down...

No venomous snakes here... so feel free to come and meet the gang! Yep snakes worry me alot too, with the dogs... not much you can do about that. Tarni and Ant have developed a little 'thing'... Ant is the only snake not fussed by the dog (snakes hate the 'smell' of dogs!) and she is the only snake Tarni shows any interest in... it's quite touching to watch them together! It's funny, all my girls have a real love for animals, in particular reptiles. Jemma is only 18 months old and just loves them... she kisses them and everything which totally freaks my Mother out! Jacob on the other hand shows little interest. He's the only one who doesn't want a snake or lizard of his own. He is interested in anything new coming into the collection but doesn't really care once he's seen them. That's fine though... can't expect everyone to share my interest.

I got my first reptile over 30 years ago... a Shingleback Lizard called Rocky. This led me to more Shinglebacks and I had bred them by the time I was about 9. As a kid I kept Turtles (3 varieties) Bluetonge Lizards (2 Varieties) Shinglebacks, frogs (god knows how many) and later on I had a Carpet Python named Cuddles. There was a few years when I came back to Victoria when I didn't have any reptiles, but it wasn't for long. I have always loved them and breeding them over the years has brought in some 'pocket' money, which has helped maintain my collection and also expand it. These days I focus on the smaller Pythons, as they are my favorite. I do keep lizards and frogs and Dragons but the snakes are my real interest. I have operated a little business "South-West Antaresia" keeping, breeding, but mainly trading the Antaresia species for the last couple of years, and this has led to discovering the demand for a commercial dealer in all reptiles in this region, hence "REPTI-Life". You should come over one day and see the collection.... we currently have seven snakes in the lounge-room, 8 Tree Frogs, a Gidgee Skink, Two Dragons as-well as all the lizards/turtle outside hibernating. Even if you have a fear of snakes we have a couple here who have such awesome temperaments you are bound to see them differently by the time you leave. A lady from Naringal who had a deathly fear of snakes spent some time here and ended up cuddling and kissing Ant, one of my girls. Now she is contemplating having one of her own!

Thanks for the link tlc... no I hadn't seen the footage yet. 13" long snake they reckon! How awesome. It's not great footage but worth watching if you're interested.

No, and I can't find it anywhere! Can you post a linky please? Edited to say... Someone else just emailed me this story. Apparently it occurred in rural Florida USA and the Alligator (native to the area) was swallowed by a Burmese Python. Burmese Pythons grow to 12 foot + but have been known to reach 20 feet in length. These snakes aren't native to Florida (or indeed anywhere in the USA!) but are released illegal pets. There is reasonable steady traffic of these being smuggled into the US and when they reach an unmanageable size, keepers have been irresponsibly releasing them into the Everglades, as they can't publicly advertise them for sale etc. They have become such a problem that Florida State Govt actually license hunters to kill them. They are competing heavily for food as they (and their numbers) grow and I'm not surprised to hear one has tried it on with an Alligator! Obviously the snake didn't survive, and while I've not heard details I wouldn't imagine the Alligator would have survived either as the Burmese are constrictors, squeezing their prey before swallowing. Edited again to add... A private keeper in the US recently died after being consricted by his pet Reticulated Python, a close relative of the Burmese. He has kept the snake for over 20 years, and while accessing its enclosure to replace the snakes water he obviously paid no attention to tha snake or was day-dreaming at the time and was grabbed by the 16 foot snake. The snake constricted the man and was about to begin devouring him when the mans friend walked in on the goings-on and promptly killed the snake with an axe, but it was too late. Another incident recently (again in the USA) where a small pet Python escaped it's enclosure in the home and promptly headed for heat... namely an infants cot. The snake constricted and killed the baby. THIS is why we have such strict regulations in Australia.... it seems the US is just a free-for-all. I have a snake less than 5 feet long and he is so nasty, fast and strong that he scares the s@#t out of me and there is no way I would let Agro near the kids... even at that size he could kill Jasmine or Jemma... imagine if he was 16 feet long! Geez, can you tell I'm bored much? ;) Edited AGAIN to add... On Saturday I had the exciting privilege of handling a large African Royal Python. These are illegal in Australia (although there are a few around!) and the owner finally trusted me enough to let me see him. And of course I just had to have a hold... what an amazing experience... I had 'tingles' all over!

Sing out if you need a lift to the Dr tlc, or if there is anything else we can do while Mr tlc is at work.

Just quickly, I have heard the RETF's croaking the last two nights because I am sleeping in the lounge-room near to them. They may have croaked every night but can't hear them from the bedroom. They also croak when I mist them. Tarni loves them too... just sits and watches/points them all day while they climb around.

They're funny aren't they? Glad she's happy now! I had a bitch who used to take a pup to the sofa... feed it... then return it to the whelping box and collect another. She would feed the entire litter this way daily unless I intervened and made her stay in her box! It was fascinating to watch. I think she just felt overwhelmed with puppies in the box and couldn't relax, but was happy to feed them, so long as she could do it one at a time.
