Piker? PIKER??? Piker indeed!

G'Day, RP! I normally do Hamilton every year, followed by Horsham the following weekend, from memory. This year is the first year I haven't entered as I knew I'd have puppies on the ground, and we had originally thought our much-delayed business would be up and running by now too. So alas, we shall not meet. The last two years Hamilton Showgrounds were literally twelve inches of mud.... exhibitors wore gumboots in the ring and carried their dogs (however large!) everywhere. I remember a couple of years ago I had 2 babies entered, one was Tarni and the other was a dog I ran-on for a while. Both of them decided half-way around the ring that wallowing in the mud looked like a great idea and preceded to belly-flop and wriggle about on their backs. By the time we made it around to the judge they were smothered in thick, smelly, black mud. The Judge could only laugh, and I said "I wont blame you if you don't want to put your hands on them!" after-all, they were only babies, and he said "Which one do you think is the better one", laughing, I said "the dog" and so he placed us thusly! And so, while it would have been great to see you again RP, I am NOT gonna miss that mud!

Killarney was one of Amy's girls. She and Tarni have the same sire. She is just beautiful... awesome temperament, really feminine and elegant (something I need back!) and a gun in the field! She wasn't sold on breeders terms as such, but the owner was aware we really liked her and would have loved a litter from her. Then he said he would like a litter but "doesn't know where to start" so offered us a litter from her in lieu of a puppy back to them. Works well. We will send her interstate to be mated, then toward the end of her pregnancy she will come here to whelp the pups. She will stay here until they are weened. She fits in well here so she wont stress with it all. Unless they are all born with two heads I will be keeping one of these.

Yeah and we get a few non-locals pop in here too.... Monah from QLD and RuralPug from a little way North....

Ask me again in 33 days. The plan is, whenever we do have a litter, to keep one. That is the main reason for us having a litter. While I do not ever want a large number of dogs again (had seven crazy Vizslas in our little house for a while there!) I am in a position now where I could have another one. We are in a much bigger house now and also have more room for the dogs. But I can't keep a pup from every litter 'just coz'. I keep one if there is one that really stands out and is, in my personal opinion, worth breeding on with in the future. Pretty hard to be sure of that though as a puppy, so even then sometimes you have to move them on when they have matured a little, and don't meet your expectations. Otherwise I would soon have 50 Vizslas here which is no good for anyone, and to breed from any dog we've kept just for the sake of it would be a huge injustice to the breed. I breed from time to time, keep one if I consider it worthy, and breed from it if I am still happy with it later. On this particular occasion, we had a small litter but had a 'heap' of people wanting one. That's great for ensuring they all go to great homes though. In fact, these pups are pretty well all going to hunting homes which I think is awesome (for the dogs and the breed, at least!) and they will be worked more heavily than they ever would living here with me, so I have to consider the dogs happiness here too. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see. If there is something really, really special, then we may keep one, yes. If not, we are having a litter from Jerojath Killarney in 2012 and I am really excited about that litter. Killarney is an absolutely incredible bird dog, but also works steadily on rabbit, fox, and deer. I will definitely be keeping one from that pairing if there is one up to par. ...or did you want a 'Yes' or 'No' answer???

Sorry Maws, I certainly can't help and I don't know of anyone who can/would either. I think she's going to have to bite the bullet and board the dog. It's funny though, as some people think 'their' dog would go mad in a boarding kennel. At the end of the day a dog is a dog is a dog, and while they may not enjoy their stay, and we may not want them to have to be boarded, the dog will be fine and the owner can go away comforted by the knowledge that their dog is safe, warm and fed, if nothing else. Geez I hate boarding my dogs, but at times when I have needed to do something I would never put such a big responsibility onto someone else to look after my dog. I couldn't relax either, in case the dog escaped etc. At least with kennels you know they are safe. Also, I wasn't going to close the thread as such, was just wondering if it's still worth-while. I enjoy popping in from time to time too, even though I rarely see any of you outside of DOL these days, I still like to 'keep in touch' I s'pose. Come to think of it, there are people on here I have never even met! GSD's, Jess, Chatabox, Lizzie, and whatever happened to Munchin? Did anyone ever meet Munchin??? Edited to add... there are plenty of Lurkers who would have nothing to do all day if we closed this thread! ;)

Yep. I got well quite quickly once it was diagnosed correctly, but the cough hung around for months, until one day I suddenly realized it had gone! Nearly drove me nuts though. Hopefully you will make a speedy improvement and be feeling better in no time. I got it due to low immunity after having glandular fever.... apparently that is common. Hope you got tested for that too...

I had had the vaccine and still got whooping cough not so long ago, you may remember.

tlc I was in the car outside the optometrists cnr Lava and Kepler and thought I saw you in my mirror... was thinking it was great to see you're up and about but I come in here and FB and hear you are still sick as a dog. Sux. Yeah puppies going well. By far the easiest litter I've had. I really do love having a smaller litter... less work and more time to enjoy puppy-snuffles! Got the completed lease for our shop in the mail today! It's been fifteen months of hard work, red tape and disappointments, but it is now finally all coming together! I too, noticed it has been very quiet on here of late... seems people tend to use FB to catch up with eachother. Maybe there is no need for this thread anymore? Then again, I never have time to catch up with anyone outside of FB and DOL!

I have created a You Tube account and read all about it, just haven';t had a chance to upload video yet. It is a big file so will take some time and flat out with other things atm. It looks pretty straight forward though so I should be fine, thanks!

Thanks for the tips. I shall sign up with an account tonight and see how we go. If I get stuck I shall return here begging.

Bloody hope so! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I don't know if it has internal memory, but I do have a 16GB card in it now so I probably recorded onto that.

It was Ringo. It is a Sony Handycam DCR-SX43. Are they all different? If it's a pain in the arse, please don't worry about it. I've looked for an online tutorial... I was working on our FB page yesterday just coz there is nothing more I can do now until we get the keys to the shop. I was uploading some pictures of our products and realized a reptile keeper O/S had already found us, so I thought I may as well just 'launch' the page now. At least that way anyone interested can follow our progress before we open. When we are actually open for business I will link the FB page to all my reptile forums etc and start generating some real interest. We start working on our online reptile supplies store "Herpetology" soon, too.

Hope your blood test reveals exactly what you have. No point taking meds/AB's if you don't know what you're treating! I had whooping cough months ago and even after it was gone, I had a niggling cough for months after... RJ knows all about this I believe! Pups are doing really well and Tarni has proved that great Mums run in our line. She has been incredible. Sad news yesterday to hear that Donna James who is doing the dog-show circuit in Northern Territory had to have one of her Vizslas PTS after it attacked someone. Apparently she has had temperament issues for a long time with this dog but it has been escalating of late. I am told he also flew at a group of children while in the NT so Donna did what she knew she should do. I couldn't imagine having to make a decision like that. It's very sad, as this dog always appears to be so lovely and 'sooky' with me. Hard to understand. Anyway, tlc you are our resident tech-head and I need some advice! We recently got a Sony Handycam which we love, but we don't know how to upload video to You Tube. We got it so we can take footage of the kids and post them so Chantel's family can see them but we don't know where to start! Any chance of a step-by-step "Loading Videos onto You Tube For Dummies & JJ's"? Got to make you useful somehow while you're lazing in bed!..... ;)

Sounds like you're busy, Bec! Not good about the Boxers. I must say I don't like "dog park" scenarios like Harris Street. It seems that if there is just one dog upsetting the balance, then it becomes like a pressure cooker... finally spilling over into an all-in barney! I'm sure Tyson would love a little play-mate. tlc sorry to hear you have not improved. You must be getting sick of your bed by now, with or without Spoodies! Hope you improve soon. Good to hear from you, Mawson! Glad you got home safely. 9 meter swells??? No thanks!

Thanks T&T They are very cute and are all thriving! Dunno if anyone here is interested, but the new Car Wash on the cnr of Laverock Rd & Raglan Pde is opening soon. They are looking for a "Manager" to run the place. I can't imagine it would be too involved.... servicing cash machine, servicing washing agents, keeping the place clean etc??? Anyway the owner rang me the other night as he thought I was looking for work. Obviously I can't take the job as I sign the lease for my new shop tomorrow ( ) so I thought someone here may be looking for a job. If interested, the owner is Darren Noseda and he is located at the BP next door to the car wash. He rang me last week but I couldn't get back to him straight away. Obviously the job may be taken now but it's worth a shot if you need a new job!

Thanks Monah. How is your lovely Vizsla doing? Hope she has improved...
-
Sounds like they're not far off now! I shall check in when I can for good news....
-
Tarni and the pups are all doing well. Tarni doesn't appear to have lost any condition and is looking as good as I've seen her, besides the pendulous boobies, of course! Pups are gaining weight at a great speed... certainly no worries with this lot! I just took these now...
-
Wouldn't affect me anyhow..... I'm still sleeping on the sofa. ;)
-
Tenties we will be ready to open a few weeks before I am permitted to, due to DSE licensing hold-ups. There will be plenty of time for you to come and have a look before we open.
-
Happy Birtday tlc. It sux that you are still so unwell, especially as you have a guest staying. Hope you manage to enjoy it regardless.
-
I was telling you the other day about a pet snake which killed a baby in its cot, well the verdict was handed down in court today.... STORY HERE
-
No Tenties, 'twas not I. I gave you a 'toot' early Saturday... ;) If you do pop in to see Tez make sure you say G'Day from me! I miss her around here and on the odd walk I was able to join you all on. Half your luck having your own Grooming Room! Well I nearly just had a heart-attack.... I was just over at Centro Plaza getting dog food. I was standing in the queue and this woman in front of me comments to the checkout operator: "I see someones finally going into that empty shop" pointing over the way to where the sandwich bar used to be. Then the operator says "Yeah I hear it's a Pet Shop that sells snakes". So I dead-set nearly drop one in the knickers, of course! Then another employee standing at the customer service counter says: "Nah, it's a Newsagent". "Oh really" I heard it was a Pet Shop" says the operator. "No I think that's at Safeway" the other says. So of course, I confirmed that I'd heard the same, but also added that "I think they are going to sell heaps of other stuff too, like turtles". Think I aged about 10 years, but!
