  1. Screw THAT! I'd be DEMANDING my gas was on for the weekend!! Too cold to be without a hot shower!
  2. Not too shabby. You thinking of getting a snake? ;)
  3. Oh Phew! I made it in here in time to also say... HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAWSON! :birthday: :birthday:
  4. Bloody hell. Those dogs are all absolutely amazing, but YOUR dog WON!!! How cool is that???
  5. Cav we have had that "flu" go through here too.... seems to last about 4 days. Bet it is quiet at your place. My lot start leaving this week.
  6. No, they didn't. They may have come in though... I literally didn't even get to say 'Hi' to everyone, it was that busy. I'm sure as things settle down a bit, I'll get to know who's who in the Zoo.
  7. Hi! Just jumped on to let you know. First day went really well..... shop was packed with people the entire day, from about 9:30 til nearly six o'clock. Lots of people just 'interested' and having a look, while there were heaps of people in who are keen reptile keepers and glad we have opened shop. Lots of opportunity to educate people on the virtues of reptiles as pets.... one woman was in looking for a new pet for her intellectually disabled son. When I mentioned a snake as a pet, she nearly jumped out of her skin and said no way! So, I went out the back and got one of my girls; Antaresia, and introduced her to the woman. She was very nervous, but eventually had a 'touch', and later a 'pat', and was soon holding her! Anyway, she came back in later in the day with her son, and decided that a snake would be "perfect". She is ordering a top-of-the-line enclosure and a young Spotted Python. So, busy talking top people all day... Saturday will be huge, I think. Checked the 'sales' on the system at the end of the day to find we'd had a pretty good day! I hadn't realized just how many sales I'd put through.... lots of frozen rats and mice as well as items keepers have never had available to them before. So all in all, a good day. I was about buggered by the end of it though. Never sat down from open to close, never even had a chance for a cuppa!
  8. OMG Jess what an outstanding achievement! You must be so chuffed!!! Edited... If you do get hold of a link to footage, please share it with us in here.
  9. I'm not listening JJ, alright yes i am how much would one of these cutest little water dragons cost one hmmmm ???? just out of interest you understand ;) i will pop into the shop next payday as i have no petrol to get in there beforehand, did you get my message on your facebook page ???? Hey Tenties, yes I got your FB message thanks! ;) The Eastern Water Dragon babies have $145 each on them.... but I have room to move on that! Tenties I have some baby Bearded Dragons too... equally as cute.
  10. Yep they are the tiniest, cutest baby Water Dragons you ever did see, so best you bring your cheque-book!
  11. Sorry, No. I need more room for reptile stuff already... and I haven't even opened yet! I do have access to lots of 'pet' stuff through the wholasalers. You are welcome to come in and browse the catalogues. Because I don't deal in pet stuff, you would have to pay when you order, but I can get this stuff at cost price for you guys. I wouldn't want to be doing it all the time, but for someone wanting to buy lots of stuff or for the odd expensive item, I would be more than happy to do it. I can get most doggy items for about 3o%-50% of what you'd pay in-store. I have access to big bird cages, aviaries, dog beds...pretty well anything a really good pet shop might sell. For example... I bought a new wooden kennel for the puppies. I paid $89 and I saw them in Pet Stock for about $299, a similar one in Bunnings for $199, and saw it in Pet Goods Direct for $349. HERE IS ONE of the suppliers I have access to. You can peruse the items they carry online. The other suppliers only have catalogues.
  12. Yeah, I am. I'm still fighting off this 'flu'. I have been a bit off for weeks. I wish it would either hit me hard or piss off! Went to Melbourne today and collected the last of my critters. I have some lovely animals in-store I have the most beautiful Darwin Carpet Python I've ever seen... problem is he wants to eat me! Also have some tiny baby Water Dragons... my God they are so cute! They follow me in their tank as I move up and down the shop! Lots of babies actually... baby turtles, baby snakes, lots of baby lizards and frogs. People like baby things.
  13. A "snake owners" joke, but funny nonetheless!... A little girl goes to a pet shop and asks, "Excuthe me do you have any widdle wabbits?" The shopkeeper's heart melts. He gets down on his knees so that he is on her level and says, "Do you want a widdle white wabbit or a thoft, fuffy, bwack wabbit, or one like that widdle bwown one over there.?" The little girl blushes, rocks on her heels, puts her hands on her knees, leans forward and whispers..." I dont wealy fink my pyfon gives a phuck..
  14. I just noticed I have over 3000 DOL posts! How the hell did that happen? I don't even get on DOL much these days!
  15. What about Copperheads whos main (or only) diet is frogs. These snakes will live permanently right on the edge of water bodies, and enter the water to hunt. I see them 'basking' in the shallows, too. I believe that water definitely is a factor in snake populations.... in particularly, the Copperhead species.
  16. There is no 'snake season' as such. Snakes are about all year round. There is a common misconception that snakes 'hibernate' over the cooler months. They do not. Snakes 'brumate' over winter. Brumation differs from hibernation in that the snakes don't 'go to sleep' for winter, but rather 'slow down' their systems to allow for a reduction in food sources as well as heat availability. Unfortunately (for those wishing to walk their dogs!) snakes can most definitely be out and active in the middle of winter. If the ambient air temperature exceeds that of the snakes burrow/hide, then the snake will leave its place and go out to absorb as much (or as little) of the available heat from the ambient air. Obviously, finding a rock or paved area helps, as these absorb warmth from both direct sunlight as well as the ambient temperature. Admittedly, snakes active during the cold periods are a lot less active, and appear rather listless, in a bid to conserve heat (energy) and will often let you pick them up and handle them without any fuss at all. My family go 'snake hunting' (with cameras!) most weekends, and we have seen more snakes over winter in our favorite snake hot-spots than we saw prior to the cooler months. We have even photographed them many times basking in the rain. So don't ever become complacent thinking that because it's winter or cool, there wont be any snakes about!
  17. RP that bus looks fully ace! No, it's not exactly what I have in mind for my bus, but 'similar'. Hey RP do ya feel like being my courier from Mt Gambier again? I bought a new snake yesterday.... an 8 foot+ 3 kilo+ Inland Carpet Python called Murray. I am yet to meet him but I am told he is just lovely. Can't wait to meet him. I might have to drive to SA on next Sunday to get him, if my import/export docs are back in time! Glad to hear conditions were a little better at Hamilton.... I swore I'd never go back after last years shows! I think the swap-meet was on last year too, so you may find it's an annual thing. I've not heard of Trev's Bargain Store before... will check it out next time I'm in Hamilton. Tenties glad to hear (I think!) you are having another operation on the eye... at least something is happening! tlc we are hoping for a nice, quiet, relaxed opening. A bloke my age can't work too hard you know! ;)
  18. Yep I've been pretty busy. Had my last delivery this morning so we are now officially ready to go. We had planned to open on Monday, but thanks to Australia Post some documents haven't arrived and I can't collect my livestock until they do, so our opening has again, been delayed a little. *sigh* Yeah hasn't the weather been the best! Love it!
  19. I have Hovabators running here. Love them. Simple and reliable. Reptiles can incubate in any incubator that neither rocks nor turns the eggs. In fact, if many reptile eggs are turned even a few degrees while taking them from Mum to the incubator, they will be ruined. A tip for you... always buy incubators from poultry farms/supplies rather than reptile stores. Much cheaper. ;)
  20. It's ok.... there aren't any critters in there yet! ;) IF all goes to plan, we hope to open on the 29th.
  21. Tenties I agree. I have seen what can happen to dew-claws left on, although I do think it's quite a rare occurrence. I certainly wouldn't work a dog in the field with them on, that's for sure! I once copped a pig-dog injury late one night at the clinic where the dog had slid through a fence, caught the dew-claw on a wire loop and tore it right up to its arm-pit. Horrific injury, and we ended up euthing at owners request due to costs. Thing is, it doesn't just happen to pig-dogs... it can happen to ANY dog even within the home. I have seen it occur on a shag-pile rug. Hey Tenties how's your new ute going? Have you picked her up yet?
  22. Geez I'm sorry tlc. I can't remember if I saw your post or not to be honest. Been pretty busy of late. While I have read and been told conflicting stories, I am led to believe that until the Victorian GOVERNMENT decide to make their installation mandatory (which wont be, if ever, until they have completed their independent studies into the meters) residents can not be forced to have the meters installed. I put a sign on my meter box which reads: "STOP! WE DO NOT WANT A SMART METER INSTALLED UNTIL AFTER THE STATE GOVERNMENT HAS COMPLETED ITS SMART METER REVIEW. THANKS." Smart Meters have been installed throughout my area, yet none have been fitted to my house nor others who erected a sign or informed the Powercor Contractors that they don't want it. I guess that if the Vic Govt do wish for it to become mandatory, then we don't have a leg to stand on. I have heard of probable health issues caused by smart meters too.... particularly where peoples meter boxes are fitted to the external walls of bedrooms. RJ came to see me at the shop today. Was great to catch up, albeit briefly, as I've not seen her for yonks. We really will have to congregate for a big dog-walk soon I think! Starting to loose touch with y'all!
