Be a while off yet..... when Hell freezes over.
-
You'd think so, wouldn't you??? With all we've got (LOTS of Snakes, Lizards, Dragons, Frogs, Turtles, Crocodile, Geckos etc etc and with what's to come (Wallaby, Gliders etc) they still want nothing but a KITTEN!!!!
-
He's a Northern Swamp Wallaby. He was hand-raised as an orphan and wont join in with other Wallabies so needs to be part of a human family. He is currently living at a Wildlife Park (with the owners) but the Park is closing down soon. All the exhibits have found new homes within other Parks and Zoo's, but this little guy isn't suitable. He will join our Kinder Kritters Team and be used in educational incursions. Yes you do need a special licence for these! We have Wallaby-proofed our property, but he will spend most of his time in the house with the family. Tarni will love the company as she loves any other animal and 'Mothers' them.... she's taken a 'shining' to a 10-Foot Snake we have at home lately!!! Just gotta wait a couple of weeks for permits to happen..... We are also hoping to add some Sugar Gliders and Feathertails to the Zoo soon, too! :)
-
Yes I'm told they have a much bigger range these days.... haven't been in myself yet! Hey... here's a "sneak peak" of my latest aquisition....
-
Yeah she's the trainee Nurse at Lava Street.... she did tell me her snake had escaped but she'd found it again. I did warn her.... she's using a home-made enclosure and I reckon 9 times out of 10, they end up more trouble than it's worth, with escaped snakes, snakes stuck in vents. or worse case scenario.... injured snakes or lizards. Tarni will have her 2nd and last litter at the end of this year. This is subject to our proposed stud dog returning safe hip & elbow scores. If all goes well we will have the litter and keep a pup, probably a bitch as I really want to get back out in the field with a young Vizsla and I like working the girls best - especially on Quail. We'll just have to wait and see what happens and see what we get, but that's the plan! We've only been operating there for about 9 months and we're at the point we expected to be at after 2 years. Initially, we took a lease on the premises for 2 years thinking it would take that long to outgrow it, if ever. We really need space now.... we've got a heap of stuff hidden away in cupboards because there is nowhere to display it, and it's gonna be a LOT worse over the next week or two with a new range of 'big' items arriving. I reckon being near Pet Stock would suit me just perfectly. :) What an awesome day it's been today.... hot and sunny, rainy and steamy and now cold and windy! We've had to bring in a lot of stuff from the back of our place because I was worried we would loose it!

We went to Killarney but we were only there less than an hour.... the tide was well up, lots of sea-weed about, very rough, and the wind was blowing sand in the kids eyes. They still had a blast, swimming and letting off some steam. Came home and the wind had died a little, so spent the afternoon beside the pool sipping Pear Cider..... doesn't get much better! Some wild winds later-on though!! Tarni's the only girl I have here these days (although we will have another by the end of the year  ) and she's completely bomb-proof. I shoot over all my dogs regularly when they are pups so I know they are 'rocks' for the field, so I've never had a Vizsla scared of anything like thunder. If anything, she just gets a bit pissed that it's woken her from her naps! It DOES feel like it's just you and me in here lately..... where the hell IS everyone? I guess everyone's just busy. Speaking of busy.... I am totally out-growing my current shop and am looking (or in Chan's words... "JUST looking!") at our options. Have been thinking this week about going into the old Clive Peter's Space out East. I'm told they've divided into 3 smaller stores, but I'd imagine they'd still be bigger than what I've got now. I've got SOOOoooooo much new stuff coming in this week and I have no-where to put it. I don't want to become one of those dingy little over-crowded, dirty, can't-find-anything type pet stores. Hate them! We'll have a look and go from there I guess...

Happy Easter to you too!
-
It's hard to say if that's a good price.... really depends on what anesthetic they use there. Sounds pretty good to me though. $300 dental???? That sounds a little steep, but then it's been a while since I worked in clinics....
-
No real theories from me, although everything you've mentioned sounds plausible. Dogs are funny creatures.... piss them off just once as youngsters and they'll never forget it! Hopefully in time, BJ will become more tolerant too, and you'll have nothing to worry about at the Vets, besides the invoice as you leave.....
-
Glad all went well today. Keep us posted after his next visit. Why do you think your dogs have such issues with going to the Vet? They all seem really well-rounded, adjusted dogs for the most part, yet they stress badly with the Vet visits! Any idea what is causing this? It's funny, because even with dogs I've had who were a little timid, or at least wary, they never ever had issues with Vet visits..... they knew they would get 'pats' and that seemed to outweigh anything else that might be going to happen to them!
-
No, I've not seen Sue yet. They come around to the shop when I need them so I haven't even been into the clinic yet!

Woo-Hoo! I'm back on! I went to log-in today and DOL wouldn't accept my password, and when I spoke to Troy about it, he said he couldn't even find my password, so dunno what happened there.... Be that as it may, I'm all set again now! tlc I did read that thread about CJ.... hope it's "nothing", but be sure to keep us posted. Yes, I have made the switch to Lava Street. After the "average" service I have received lately at 'my' clinic, and the terrific service I have been getting for the Reptiles through Lava Street, I have started going there with dogs too. Tarni went in to have some x-rays last week and I couldn't fault them. :) Hope they are 'understanding' with CJ tomorrow, as I know you want to stick it out at that clinic. Good Luck! :)

I was just out picking Jess up from a party at Brierly Reserve, and couldn't believe the improvements which have happened since we moved from that side of town. I'm sure some have seen it, but there's a really nice playground for the kids, and I great BBQ area with toilets and shelter etc. I was thinking it could be a perfect spot for Warrnambool DOLers to get together one day... have some lunch, talk crap, and let the dogs have a nice run together. What do you guys think???

So-called "Snake Repellents" are an absolute waste of money. I have SEEN tests undertaken by Australian Snake experts after being asked by the repellent manufacturers to conduct these tests. In EVERY case, the snake was completely unperturbed by the device (any of them!) and in a number of cases, snakes were found to curl up and go to sleep on them. I keep snakes... lots of them, both Pythons and Venomous species, and I have "tested" the repellents myself at home. Not once did any of my snakes show any sign whatsoever that they were even aware of the device, much less 'bothered' by it! Don't waste your money. Use that money to create credit at your Vet, in case snake-bite ever does occur. ;)

Mount Clear Vet Clinic is right near the Uni. Went there for quite a while when we lived nearby. I was always happy with them, even in an emergency.
-
Would you mind letting me know when you see they have it in? I can never get there and I don't want to send the OH in again and again until we find it! :) Prime needs a website!
-
That's great news. I hope everyone here who feeds it supports Prime for theirs. I've been wanting to give it a go, but didn't want to inconvenience by doing a one-off order with anyone until I'd given it a go for a while. Do you happen to know prices tlc???
-
That was nice of him! :) Yep.... usually find it cleaner there too, although it was pretty good last night on Caramut Rd.
-
Forgot? I think deliberately.... just to mess with my head!
-
Just been to the dog wash as Tarni is off to the Vet tomorrow and needed to smell all pretty! I went to Mortlake Rd Dog Wash. Got there at 7:58 and noticed the sign said closes at 8:00, so I'm thinking "Phew! Just snuck in!" Then I go to the door, and find the place all locked-up! Early! Strange thing is, the lights were all on, and there was a flashing neon sign which said 'open', and there was a board out on the street which said Dog Wash Open, yet the bloody Dog Wash was CLOSED!!! Not Happy! Luckily the one out West was still open (and relatively clean today!) so we had a good scrub there. :)

This sounds awesome!! I'm sure you will get massive amounts of people! Yeah I hope so. It is a world-wide movement, but we thought we'd do our bit here in town. :) We aren't allowed to pull out any Venomous Snakes, but will have a range of pythons including Children's, Spotteds, Stimsons, Diamonds, Black-Headed, Murray-Darling Carpet Snakes etc. We might even bring out the big guns! It will be a fairly brief presentation I'd imagine, maybe 30mins, but should be really interesting for anyone who hasn't had anything to do with snakes. We try to change peoples perceptions of snakes through their children... kids love reptiles and rarely show much fear, but it's the actions of their parents that does so much harm. If I got a dollar for every time someone came into my shop saying "Geez, I shoulda brought my shovel!". The kids hear their dads talk like this and immediately think snakes are awful animals! I keep a very large number of snakes, and there is only ONE here who really scares the crap out of me! That's not bad going, I reckon! ;) Basically we will be sharing some interesting facts about snakes, giving people the opportunity to see a number of really pretty snakes, and hopefully realize that they aren't all that bad, and are an important part of our Eco-system. We'll see what sort of reception we get, I guess! I'm told The Standard are running with it, as is one of the local radio stations, unsure which one, and Gateway Plaza were going to push it on their website etc. I hope it's worthwhile. :)

Aaaah the Crocodile. Never have I had so many dramas in my life!!! It has been a constant fight to get this Crocodile! We are fully licensed Demonstrators with DSE, so we are allowed to keep anything we like. We meet all local government guidelines relating to the keeping of such species for commercial purposes, blah, blah, blah. For a while there though, it looked as if we would not be able to have a Crocodile.... BUT! IF (and that is a big 'IF') all goes to plan, we will be collecting our Crocodile from Melbourne late Tuesday night. And not a moment too soon, as we have an incursion booked at a local school for first thing Wednesday morning, so he's going to be put to work very quickly! I will post some pics of 'Snap' as soon as he arrives. ;)

They are still trading because Gary is too pig-headed and proud to concede defeat! The managers here at PGD Warrnambool (in the past, dunno who's running the show now) quite openly tell customers that the store is going broke and running at a loss! I'd shoot my staff for telling customers that!!! I think maybe they just get fed-up. I know when my Brother was manager (or might have been Assistant Manager) there, he would just say "Sorry! Nothin' I can do. Take it up with head-office!" coz he was so sick of the complaints!
-
They did have a play, one of mine played a bit of chasey and he took off tail between his legs. he was very cute! Well done Solly! If only it wasn't a pet goods direct! Has anyone heard any more about what's going in Clive Peters old building? Only that I heard from a Sales Rep that PetStock are still making the move into the old Clive Peters building.... just a short delay, I believe. :) Yeah I wouldn't work for PGD myself.... it would be very embarrassing having to explain to all the customers why there is so little stock all the time! One of my customers was saying he went in week after week to get some straw bedding for his rabbits, and every week they said the same thing... "We'll have some next week!" Well he went in every week asking until one of the girls answered: "Look, we don't know when. When the company pays its bills we will get sent some bags of straw. I don't know when that will be so you might have to get some from somewhere else!" I thought that was a classic response! Geez there are at least two other pet shops in town that sells it... I wouldn't be wasting my time going back there week after week!

Pet Goods Direct - Warrnambool Store, are looking for staff, if any of you are interested!
